Spinning out of the RID thread. Surprisingly, there was no previous Armada thread.
So....shitter than diahorrea? Or a forgotten prom queen that gives you a boner?

I still say there's nothing wrong with the premise itself, and Furman got some good stories out of it.
The problem is, well, a lot of stories weren't getting anything good out of the premise.

I liked the comic (well most of it) but the show... actually I still haven't seen any of it. Not a single episode or even a brief clip. So I'll be watching this thread to see if anyone says anything good about it.

I still say there's nothing wrong with the premise itself I'd agree, the premise isn't fundamentally broken, just wearyingly familiar. After all, Pocket Monsters had been doing that same premise for a good many years, and it is at the back of most console "rpgs" in one way or another. The problem is that said plot was executed in an extremely dull way. (It didn't help that the animation quality was truly bargain basement stuff as well). Karl

There are times for careful and considered comments and there are times when one needs to channel a less thought-through chain of thought and just talk in bold caps with no apparent consideration of other points of view.
ARMADA'S PREMISE IS UTTER, UTTER SHITE.
That is all.

I watched the first five or six episodes of it before giving up on the whole thing. The kids ruined it for me for a start. Whereas the original series had adults (or young adults in Spike's case) for human characters this one was loaded with kids trying to be superheroes just to try and make the link between the cartoon and the target audience. Another thing was that it tried to be a modern day version of the original instead of creating its own set-up but failed miserably.

I'm with Ralph, Armada's premise is pretty shite. What ho, super advanced alien robots why make nice with bloody children. Perhaps contacting people with influence, power or scientific knowledge?
No, you like hanging with kids.
Well that shit's gotta stop, this ain't Huckleberry Finn the world's a different place now.

They made friends with human kids in Beast Wars and RID too.
(The fact the kids were annoying as fuck in BW Season 3 doesn't help my argument)

I know, but I will BW S3 off because the adults weren't going to be much more intelligent than the kids. As for RID, there was at least a story point in them befriending Koji.

Armada was the final TF series that I watched religiously, no matter how bad it was. I've mentally blocked the majority of episodes, but I do remember the final 7 episodes where they fight against and inside Unicron being well animated.

Nick and I braved all of Armada when it was doing the rounds. It was heavy going. I recall we worked out once that an episode went for 7 minutes without anything moving. I perservered as TF cartoons were still a novelty to me and my interest in TF toys was at its peak.
It was tough, tough going. Though at least the pain was mostly shared. For the final batch of episodes we convened at Burns Towers to make an evening of it. I had to drink heavily to get through them. Nick had to go catch his bus home around 10pm and yet the episodes kept on going (it was a VHS tape compilation). Every time I thought: 'this must be the last one', there would be another. And another. Yet I had the strange and terrible urge to see how it would end. Also, a hateful part of my mind said: "you've watched 40-odd episodes already, you must keep going."
I'm not entirely sure how the series ended as by then it was around 3am and I was pished out of my mind. I suspect this was for the best.

I was mercifully spared the experience of watching all of Armada - although I remember being awed by your courage in getting through all the episodes - and even more so Nick's in that he lacked the cushion of alcohol.
I remember bailing out of Armada relatively early on. Mostly because the quality of the animation was poorer than shows of older vintage I was watching at the time, and the quality of the dubbing was quite painful. There were no characters I could really summon up much enthusiasm for, and the plot was basically that of Pocket Monsters with giant robots. As the saying goes other mecha/robot franchises were available, and most of them were putting in a better shift.
Still. I respect the courage and toughness of anyone who slogged their way through the whole thing.

Out of morbid curiosity - I actually watched the Final Episooooode on Youtube last night - and it was so splendidly ridiculous that I feel as though I should watch the lot.

With the exception of the "rather good in an imagine its a Star Dub and thus needs some degree of sensible interpretation Car Robots / RID series" I've avoided all TF shows from BM to Animated like the plague. A feat I'm actually proud of.

Bailed out of Armada by eleven episodes managed two of Energon (though watched more as Superlink) and Cybertron I only watched the first three episodes.
The AEC trilogy is a low point for TF animated shows.

Yes Animated is great. Watch it, watch it now!
Of the shows I've seen Energon is the worst. Tried some and it was bad. I heard mumblings about it being the fault of the dub so sampled some more, this time as Superlink and was bored to tears.

As much as I hated Armada the show did get half watchable by the end. Starscreams developement was a lot more intersting than I'd expect from such a show.

Yeah the last half of Armada as it moves into the Unicron Battles is actually really good and chocka full of cool character moments, mostly revolving round Starscream. Still a bit slow, but worth watching.
Then Energon goes and squanders all that development

The cartoon was ok - got interestding with Sideways & Unicron in series one. But let down with us getting thew poorly animated ending compared to the Japan clips. Then series 2 starting off with script error [You can't blame David & co saying Shockwave - they have to read the script]
But got good again with Unicron showing up & some great scenes [just ignore the kids in minicons flashback]
