There will always be Battlestar Galactica 1980 here. Those who are blinded to its glory need not look at this thread.

Okay, so The Return of Starbuck wasn't quite what I was expecting. In so much as there wasn't much returning going on, other than to being on the screen. What a weird episode that is. Dirk Benedict playing straight man to a comedy Cylon doing an impression of Marvin the Paranoid Android. "I will get you a woman!" he says, and then promptly does. And she's pregnant.
What?
So they probably managed to get Benedict to do one episode for this series then as a rating attractor, and that was the best idea they could come up with? Try and make it look like Dr Zee is his almost but not quite son? Troy should at least have met him. Did Benedict stipulate in his contract that he didn't want to work with any of the rest of the cast?
I've really enjoyed watching this series; I could watch most of it again, but I think the problem it has is that it never really worked out what it wanted to be. We went from the 'protect Earth from time travelling invaders' idea, through the 'hide the kids on earth and let them laugh at the puny humans' bit, to trying and failing to resurrect the Cylons, to this bizarre one off episode where everything comes to a halt. Interesting curio, but by no means worthy of the rage flung at it.

Cylons should not hug Colonial warriors. It's... wrong.
Or - get jealous when Colonial warriors look like they're going to hug someone else.

I have a soft-spot for "Return of Starbuck" from the point of the sheer absurdity of it. (That and lines from it where what I used to finish perfecting my Cylon Impression when I was a kid - "Goodanother pairofhands to turnthegenerator").
I love the fact that if you look at it with the mythology of the original series in mind it just becomes dafter. After all, a woman appearing out of nowhere expecting a child to an uncertain father - a little child who will go on to lead them [the Colonial Fleet], and Starbuck in Loco Parentis...
Looked at with the whole ships of light stuff in mind it is basically the story of how Starbuck fulfilled the Joseph role to Humankinds "New Messiah". (Unless you are cynical/heretical and think Count Iblis sent her to deliver a False Messiah to lead humanity astray...) :-)
Yes, I know this is rather over-reading the text... It just amuses me...

Really sad. Brilliant as Apollo, and the entire Zarek plot was compelling.
