Charles Norton has on Twitter discussed how the animation has been improved and the recon is a brand new one!

Nice. I like a good special edition.

I am excited about it having a new recon. The recons on Macra and Faceless ones were the things I was most excited about for those releases. If it's now standard for animated releases to also include recons, that makes me very happy. I hope Fury has one too.

Indeed. I still cling to my Loose Cannon collection, especially because of the time I spent creating discs that married those recons with existing episodes and any extras. Spent years making those. At the time I thought that would be as good as it would ever get.
What they did though was try to find ways to augment the existing telesnaps with original images made using contemporary photos or film frames of the guest cast to create new 'fill in' images. Then when they started adding cgi and even filming sequences the end results were great but less 'pure'. So having new BBC ones that take the simple audio+telesnap route is equally important. Do any of the new BBC recons use the off air 8mm clips that exist? I haven't watched that many. Every episode should exist in a form that includes absolutely everything that exists of its original form.

Small sigh of relief here. I've been in this boat so many times before so I'm relying on the Hub now to prevent it happening again. I'm really bad for dithering over preorders and left it too late once again to get an order in on amazon for the season 14 set. In the past the Blu Ray sets have always gone out of stock around the time of their original release dates, but then come back up again before the revised release date. Doesn't look like Season 14 is going to. I use Zoom as my backup, they're great, but it went from there very quickly too. I managed about a month ago to get a dodgy pre-order in on a site I've never used before (base.com) but I've been worrying about it since, as we all generally do with things like this. However I've just had a dispatch note for it, so I think I might be safe.
But, whenever a new Bluray set comes up for preorder I need a good shouting at so this doesn't happen again. I think of all the releases so far the only one I actually put a day one pre-order in for is the S12 reissue. Everything else has been managed on a wing and a prayer.
Err, but on the plus side, it looks like the Season 14 set is coming out May 4th as hoped.

My Amazon order (put in the day pre-orders went live) still shows it as due on May 11th. Due to how hard getting S14 seems to be, I shall only believe it when I get a dispatch email.
Missed out on s18 and 19 as I did not have pennies those weeks.
Meanwhile, the DVD range remains in print years later. Maddening.

I find it amazing no one making the decisions about these releases isn't looking at what's happening. If S14 doesn't go into general stock on Amazon when it comes out, that will mean it sold out on preorder at least two months before its release date. For a product that doesn't need to be limited that's just stupid commercially. I can understand that happening with the S12 reissue because they said that was a small run to make up numbers. But not with a new product.
If they want to be that cautious about it they should have a defined preorder window then just make discs to the number ordered. That way everyone has a chance to buy it if they want.

Right then. 14 is on the way, which means we should be due an announcement for the next set soon, virus permitting. What do you want? Give me your educated guess as to what it will be and also what you'd most like it to be. I shall think.

I don't think it'll be another Tom because we've already got three. We haven't had a Davison for a while so I reckon season 20 is the most likely. It's not what I'd pick though, if I could choose I'd have 9.
It does occur to me to wonder - do we know for certain this range is just classic? Might they throw in something like Tennant's first season even though that's already had a BR release just to put the cat among the pigeons? I wouldn't mind that now I think about it. It wouldn't hurt to add nuwho onto this series to make a definitive run. Maybe that will happen when the classics are all done. If I'm honest I haven't bought discs for 11-13 yet.

BR sets for 2005-onwards Doctors done to the same standards would be very nice.
I'd also quite like re-issues of s18 and 19 so I can bloody buy them! Not having HD Earthshock annoys me
I think the next set will be a Pertwee.

Right then. 14 is on the way. Balls! Amazon still says the 11th... -Ralph That's when they're expecting you to have it in your hands though isn't it? They're probably being conservative with delivery times. The product page on Amazon still says releasing Monday 4th.

The product page also says it is unavailable. So we shall see if it turns up in a week or so.
Many folk pre-ordered the s12 reissue the day it went up and got 'sorry we can't get it' messages instead.
Obtaining these sets is ridiculously difficult.

Oh did they? Wow. That's ridiculous. That page has said unavailable for months though and this release will be in larger numbers than S12. I think it'll be fine if you've got an order in. You'll have a dispatch note by Monday I bet.

I don't think you've got any reason to worry.
I've got a feeling mine's coming from Switzerland, so they probably shipped as soon as they got stock in. You'll get yours before me I expect. Anyway - Phil will have one ordered too and he's not mentioned getting a dispatch note.

I see that folk who pre-ordered S14 from Zoom and Base on GB have had their orders cancelled as they have "fallen outside the stock allocation".
The blu-ray situation is now beyond ludicrous when pre-orders don't even guarantee folk get it. Same thing happened with the S12 re-issue.
Money being left on the table.

That is just stupid. BBC Worldwide have to acknowledge this as a problem. What are we supposed to do now? put in multiple preorders in the hope one of them turns up? Someone like Marcus Hearn should be investigating this for some kind of comment.

Many GB'ers now plan to order multiples from different retailers to ensure they get one. Other folk have just given up on the range. It's a shambles. A shame, as the sets I have managed to get have been very well done. Still annoyed I'll never have a full run.
The DW Blu-ray sets sales strategy reminds me of the dark days of Matty Collector.

Many GB'ers now plan to order multiples from different retailers to ensure they get one. It's ridiculous that we'll be forced to do this, which will mean even fewer copies will be available as many people will end up with multiples. Which will then inevitably end up on eBay for silly prices. Being in a position where you can't trust a preorder is just stupid.

Mine has just arrived. I don't usually open these straight away, but I thought I ought to to be sure. Correct discs inside.

S14 not arrived yet. Seen some online comments from folk who even had Amazon pre-orders cancelled due to lack of stock. We're in Matty Collector land now.
Yup. From next release I will have Day 1 pre-orders with two suppliers and if I end up with two copies will pass one on at cost to another fan. No scalping nonsense. Some S14 copies at treble figures on Ebay. On release day.
