We seem to have veered off into *that* plot from the last season. Worried now that the three upcoming specials will be about finishing that storyline off once the business with the flux is done.
On the flip side we seem to have a season 20 style monster greatest hits thing going on. Anybody and everybody getting dragged into this run.

One thing, tonight was the first time I noticed the middle eight in this version of the closing theme. I'm sure that hasn't been there before. Always gives me a lift when I hear that bit.

My two cents {Spoiler}This is where things go wrong.
You haven't fully established Swarm and Azure but we find out that there is someone else behind it all.
Is it the Master, The Rani, The Valeyard, Tim Shaw, Rassilon, Omega or someone else like the Time Chicken from The Time Monster. Right now - who cares.

I was surprised as well. I guess it's appropriate, given it's the middle of the story. What was the Weeping Angels video game they were playing? Is this related to the mobile game announced earlier this year?

"I just want you to admit the truth, that's all. Well, instead of swanning around some distant galaxy, we've slipped back about forty years in time and we're on a little cargo boat in the middle of the Indian Ocean!" Carnival of Monsters (a rare Pertwee duffer) is another dud after The Krotons. The Five Faces of Doctor Who hardly showed the stuff of legends.

I wouldn't say it's a favourite but it certainly isn't a bad story. Because of the five faces season it's one I have very long standing memories of.
I watched the Doctor Who Cookbook extra from the season 23 set tonight. Most entertaining. The Kipper of Traken has to be the best pun ever.

The article about this season in this month's DWM is interesting. Lots of facts I didn't know, like it should have included The Masque of Mandragora as Tom's story but because union rules at the time stopped the BBC from repeating more than 26 programmes per year that were more than two years old, JNT had to cut one story from the run to allow for some repeats of Porridge scheduled for that Christmas (which ultimately didn't happen). Also that Carnival might seem an odd choice for Pertwee's story given ones like Day and Time Warrior were available, but the choice went to Barry Letts and he picked the only existing four-parter he directed. The oddities of that season make a bit more sense now.

"I'm sorry to have to tell you, gentlemen, but you are all in very serious trouble! You are, I take it, the representatives of authority on this planet? Then you have allowed the importation and the operation of a machine that is expressly forbidden by intergalactic law!" Yes that was good. Just a bit worried this whole flux season is a prelude to the specials, which will all be Division focused. Anything that harks back to the timeless child nonsense is off-putting when the stories this season have been really strong.
It's actually making me think the time has come for a proper reappraisal of new who, pick up the marathon baton again. Thing is I'd want a nice uniform disc collection and there isn't one.
