And it's done.
Felt a bit rushed at the end, but yeah, that was a good complex climax. I liked the Master coming in at the end.
Mel was superb again, but I thought she was from the Doctor's future? He doesn't know her yet does he?
And the trial was to cover up the Time Lords being arseholes? A corrupt High Council that was overthrown at the end? They wrecked the Earth the bastards!
And Valeyard is the Doctor then? You guys bang on about it, but I've never understood it, and I still don't! But maybe that's ok. It's a fascinating concept: the Doctor fighting his own evil self.
But why haven't we seen the Valeyard since?
AND PERI ISN'T DEAD?!?! She didn't have a slug brain put in her head? AND SHE MARRIED BRIAN BLESSED?!?! I thought there was some chemistry between them whilst they spent three episodes running around in those caves.
So, first part- good. Sixth not spending the whole story yelling at Peri. Good robot dude, good other dudes, and the plot made sense at the end there.
Second part- not nearly as good and annoying in places, I especially dislike Sil. Sixth back yelling at Peri and even threatening to drown her at one point. Blessed seemed wasted in the role, surely HE should've had a much bigger role in Hoop. And the horror of what the bastards did to Peri!!! But, that didn't look like it actually happened (although she didn't get back to Earth). But that section wasn't as good and I really started to lose interest.
But then the absolutely brilliant third part! Brilliant in multiple ways. Excellent Hoop.
Last part- yes, good. A good weird complex conclusion. I wasn't always sure what was going on and it could've been a bit slicker, but it was a worthy conclusion. Sixth triumphant!
Overall, I'd say I enjoyed The Trial if a Time Lord!
Really looking forward to more Sixth now!

Well I don't think suffering death as a slug-brain transplant victim is worse than marrying Brian Blessed! In fact I imagine it would be quite fun being married to Brian Blessed! Noisy. Occasionally scary. But fun!

Right, now look. You're about to sit through some extreme shite but this is a situation very much like Col. Get the first story done, don't think about it, move on. It gets better and when you get to the next season it ramps up considerably in quality. Sylv's first story is not indicative of his Doctor.

Pinwig is correct. It's all good from his second story onwards.

I loved Time and the Rani back in the day. Got a shock when the dvd came out. The memory cheated.
I have since acquired a soft spot for it due to the high camp factor.

I'm just happy the newly regenerated Doctor isn't trying to strangle a woman.
McCoy is instantly likeable and watchable.
I watched bits of his run here and there. I don't remember any of the stories but I remember him. And Ace.
Obviously I was only joking that I didn't know he regenerated! (I'm so funny, I know.) It is a shame though, just as Sixth found his feet.
What's the tea about Colin leaving?

I think the gist is the high ups at the BBC were trying to off the show but gave the producer one last chance on the proviso he recast the Doctor. Colin was effectively dropped from the role.

Yup.
The producer was told the show would be renewed for Season 24 but that he had to sack Colin and cast a new Doctor.
Colin was asked to return for one story to do a regeneration but refused as we was understandedly upset about the situation.

There has been some insinuation over the years that a certain BBC Executive, in addition to not liking Science Fiction in General and Doctor Who in particular, did not like Colin through said Exec's connection to Colin's Ex.
I believe that John Nathan-Turner, DW's producer at the time, was looking to leave and told he could go if he did the sacking and then upstairs reneged on that.
In the background to this Robert Holmes, who wrote Trial of a Timelord 1-4, had died. Bob was due to write 13 & 14.
Script Editor Eric Saward, who's relationship with JNT had been "strained and deteriorating" for some time, had departed post earlier in the season. He was asked back to pull Bob's episode 13 into a finished article - he did, it went out under Bob's name - and write episode 14 to it's planned conclusion. He did, JNT got cold feet about the ending and asked for it to be substantially changed, Saward said no and withdrew permission for his episode 14 to be used. Pip & Jane Baker, seasoned writers with a few Whos behind them (Mark of the Rani, Trial 9-12, the Vervoid story) plus various later Space 1999s, wrote episode 14 in a hurry to fill the gap.
Pip & Jane then wrote Time & The Rani. It's not their best work but we were stuck with it. After it was started/completed new script editor Andrew Cartmel joined the program and he's got a very clear idea of what he wants to do. He'd have happily binned Time & the Rani, but it was paid for and they had nothing else. Try not to hold it against him.
Cartmel's written a very good book, Script Doctor, about his time on the program, which goes into great detail of the first year and a half which is well worth a read

I didn't mind Rani Time. It got worse the longer it went on. But baste my puddings if McCoy isn't one absolutely freakin' awesome Doctor! He's brilliant in the part. Absolutely brilliant. I need to watch more of him, but I think he's going to be right up there. A revelation might be brewing. Mel again was pretty good, although they've got her screaming a lot and they shouldn't do that. There was one scene were she screamed 5 or 6 times in a row. Aaahhhh! Aaaahhhhh! Aaahhhhh! Aaaahhhh! Aaaahhhh! (Sounded like Pinwig opening a Transformers toy.) Yes, ok, scary moment, thank you writers, move on please.
I watched the first part of the next one but felt asleep so will start again afresh tonight. I was a bit concerned because what saw of it look shit. A load of young people wearing specific colours and being all intense about it because it clearly REALLY REALLY means something- the kind of thing young people do. But, I'll give it a chance.
