The Crusade and The Rescue are outstanding.
The Space Museum has an amazing first episode: one of the best Who has ever done. The remaining 3 eps are not in the same league but Vicky plotting a revolution and getting excited by violence is fun to see...and Hartnell in a bathing suit!!!
Planet of Giants is fine. Avoid the terrible 4-part edit by TFM though.

The Romans is an odd duck... I like the bits that are pure British Farce - almost everything with Nero, Doctor Who bluffing his way through impersonating a master musician... But it is rather uneven in the getting to it. Aztecs is brilliant though - glad that you've gone back and given it a go, and really glad you enjoyed it. Karl Historicals appeal differently to different people Marco Polo - good, but long and we can't see any of it move. Longest completely missing story
Aztecs - never grabbed me
Reign of Terror - love it. Hartnell's having a great time
Romans - enjoy this a lot but need to be in the mood. Again, Hartnell's having a great time
Crusade - never clicked with me going waaaay back to when I first read the book. I can see it's decent and competent but just doesn't click.
Myth Makers - good from memory, been a while.
Massacre - very popular, lots of people love it but does not work for me
Gunfighters - good bit of fun
Smugglers - great stuff, wish that existed.
Highlanders - another that's never clicked Of those just Aztecs, Romans & Gunfighters are complete. Marco Polo, Myrth Makes, Smugglers and Highlanders are completely missing Reign of Terror and Crusade both missing 2 Episodes. So as a story type they're not well represented and are very different to what comes later

Well there's someone who's learned his lesson. And this is Shockprowl! Self-confessed history nut. The Habsberg Dynasty will be turning in their graves. Hey, when it comes to sci-fi I'm a monster of the week kinda guy! But I have indeed learnt my lesson. The Aztecs was very very well done.

I agree with Phil about The Smugglers. Being lost and a historical it goes unnoticed but I think if it were ever to resurface it would get the kind of reaction Enemy of the World did. It's a great story, the recon is very good and it deserves more of the spotlight than it gets.

I'm very much liking the subtle design changes to DWM under the new editor. The layout looks much more professional in the changed pages and I like the font choices. Best of all the subscriber covers now have text on them. Not as much as the newstand edition but enough to make it feel like a magazine. I've never liked the sub covers as they're just too plain, usually a single person on a coloured background. The new issue looks really good.

I had a chin wobble, lads, and I have no shame admitting it.
Both were absolutely brilliant.
...I've actually not been able to go back to it since. I will, in another day or so, but... yeah, not just yet.

Finally managed to get back on the McCoy Who rewatch now that we've finished our marathon of 100 Gundam episodes. Watched Silver Nemesis last night, and whilst it's not quite as bad as its reputation makes out, it's also like they said "what if we did Remembrance of the Daleks again, but less subtle and with Cybermen, and worse?" Although it does have some entertaining moments.

Silly Nemesis is terrible. But on the other hand it is one of those stories where I have seen a number of the locations from the location shoot. There is something amusing about watching Lady Peinfort and Richard walk down a High Street and know you have literally walked the same stretch of pavement. (And wander around a Castle and muse as to whether one is going to bump in to a strangely familiar woman walking some small dogs...).
Also, it has proper batshit Cybermen in it - "Leader, is this the Human condition known as...<dramatic pause> Mad-Ness?!"

Ian and Barbara are genuinely two of my favourite companions - I think they are both absolutely fantastic performances, and really strong characters. They are also part of my all-time favourite line-up - HartnellDoc, Ian, Barbara and Vicki is hands down my favourite set of TARDIS travellers. (Yes, that's right - my favourite Doctor is not part of my favourite ensemble. Whole is greater than the sum of its (pretty darned amazing) parts). Karl

It is objectively terrible, but I love it. "Are you social workers?" Yeah, there's enough nonsense in this that I could see myself going back to it, even though as a piece it's not great. I think my favourite thing is the Lady and her servant doing the time travel thing, where the Peinfort actress starts doing some bad "the ground is shaking" acting, and the other guy just stands stock still. Great direction.

I've been listening to the Star Beast/Giggle commentaries this afternoon while toy opening, very enjoyable. It's very hard not to listen to the one for The Giggle without a permanent grin, it's so lovely listening to those three talking about the episode.
Loads of little interesting snippets in there, especially from RTD, but I'm intrigued by the fact RTD clearly thinks the house in the last scene is the Nobles', whereas the novelisation explains the Doctor bought it. It doesn't look like the garden that had Rose's shed in it, so I think I prefer James Goss's version.

I'm assuming that he had to sign off on the changes made by the novel, so clearly he's changed his mind since then. Or just remembered that it's only canon if you see it on screen, so it doesn't matter what the book says anyway...

Or, as is usual with novelisations, it's written from a production script and access to nowt else as it often hasn't been made/finished yet due to how publication schedules work.

I've been continuing on with the First Hoop. The Dalek one was good. I like Dodo and Steven. What happened to Vicky? Did I miss something? Toymaker was interesting but annoying in places, that's what the bi-regeneration special was about wasn't it. Gunslingers was good, although the gunfight at the Ok Corral wasn't very accurate. War Machines now- it's got its own fancy title sequence!
