The CGI at the end was utterly atrocious though. Come back, wobbly Kinda snake, all is forgiven! Where is this higher budget? Did inflation eat it all? Couldn't understand a word the 13-year old kid said. Not a word. "Aassshh. Aahhhh ssdixtor tine." Fairly sure The Woman is the Doctor's future child so Ruby is another grand daughter.

Thank you Twitter trending topics for spoiling the episode for me at 1:30am. Sigh.... It was a sub heading under DW then, much bigger font now! Ralph will now tell you about the bit of the episode that got me really excited

Hmmm. Clearly one for long-time Doctor Who fans. The rest of us who were waiting to be impressed by the big reveal are just scratching our heads and going, "It's a giant evil Fingermouse!" Martin

It is a pretty deep cut to be honest.
I was chuckling about the misdirection being kept going right up through the portentous reveal speech. (Invoking the "old gods" like the Mara is something which, if you were around for the New Adventures novels - which Davies was, as a professional writer as well as a fan - points squarely at Fenric from the McCoy era. So there was a certain amount of "look over there" being done even to the hardcore fanbase.)
But that said, I do wonder how well this is going to land with those who are less well-versed with old Doctor Who lore. For those of us who know, it is the return of a villain from a very well-regarded Tom Baker story. For the rest of the audience... is it basically "I am Bob, the Giant Space Dog Bloke"?
Honestly, this was all fairly competently executed set-up. The whole thing stands and falls on whether the actual story next week can cover the checks that this prologue is writing I think.

Well that was all jolly exciting wasn't it. Kudos to RTD for orchestrating a campaign that led everyone into thinking they'd been clever and caught him out with the triad anagram while hiding the actual twist in exactly the same place. That is clever.
I had trouble from the off believing this was going to be Susan, it didn't feel right she'd be stalking the doctor through his adventures, but I'm wondering if now the Doctor thought he was about to be reunited and was denied that, that finding Susan will be the plot arc for season two. I don't think ruby is going to get a clear answer in this series either.
Still, at least we now know what the content for the new TARDIS Tales episode will be.

I did not see that reveal coming. Well you should’ve done - I mentioned it to you last weekend. Even though it was filed under “they’ll never do that”…
As for the episode… it was okay. I was basically spending the whole episode waiting for the reveal, and didn’t feel like what was going on in the episode itself was sufficiently entertaining - it was just 44 minutes of tease, basically. But then I did watch it on an iPhone at gone midnight after a longer than anticipated and annoying drive, so I’ll see how I feel after a more traditional rewatch.
Also, yeah, Ruby’s mum is some relation of the Doctor. Unless she’s Ruby herself, in the time window. Somehow. She creates herself…

{Spoiler}I don't think Ruby will be her own mum, that's a bit too Red Dwarf even for Doctor Who. She might abandon her there though on behalf of her real mum.
Still at least we know Anita Dobson is not the Rani, or is she?

So are we now working on the assumption that the 'boss' certain characters have mentioned, like the Meep, is Sutekh?
I wonder if the Character B&M sets this year will be reissues of the Pyramids figures. You can't go wrong with a cardboard Osiran war rocket playset.

Everyone’s the Rani. Except maybe the Rani. And yes, I’m assuming that Sutekh was the boss… unless that’s a misdirection and the boss is… the Doctor himself! Somehow. The game begins again! This tweet also nicely encapsulates the issue that I’ve had with bigeneration… x.com/samspeaksmovies/status/1801766993873285550(Or it would if the link worked. I dunno if they still do. Trapped on mobile for the moment, so will check back later, unless a mod can fix this.)

I've been brave after the utterly awful Space Babies and started watching New Who.
Devil's chord was ok. Not great, but ok. Inverted up itself at the end. Feel good Saturday evening TV.
The next one, where he's stood on the mine, I found boring, but not terrible like Space Babies.
73 Yards though....
Was absolutely stunningly good. Fantastic, weird, pure science fiction. Well-done.

Mad finale theories time: As someone pointed out on the social medias, Sutekh has clearly been hitching a lift on the TARDIS for some time. Ever since RTD came back the ship has been doing some very... dramatic landings. I always assumed that was just some extra drama for Disney+, but maybe it was actually trying to shake Sutekh off. Also RTD has said there's something in the current opening credits that's a clue as to what's going on, so again, RTD's entire second tenure. So... What if he's responsible for the way that 13 regenerated into 14, clothes changing and all? And 14 isn't actually a "true" regeneration of the Doctor? Hence the bigeneration - that was the *actual* 14th Doctor trying to break free from whatever Sutekh did. I don't know how this plays into the story, but with there being at least one other Doctor and TARDIS hanging around on Earth at the time of the current story, it can't be coincidence.
Or it can.
Ruby is clearly from the future. We see in the trailer for the finale Sutekh's power spreading over the Earth a hooded figure walking towards the TARDIS. Presumably that is Ruby's mother, from this devastated future Earth, taking Ruby back in time in the TARDIS. So just as the TARDIS delivers death to the Earth in the form of Sutekh, it also delivers life, in the form of Ruby. Who will somehow be key to stopping Sutekh. With the power of love or something. Probably.

Doctor's Grand daughter....
My take on "how can you have a grand daughter before a child?" is the Doctor is aware of the Grand daughter before he's aware of the child
Which then leads to the question who's the Doctor most likely to have child with?
Answer: his wife - Forum and Kaptain Favourite River Song
Pond River Flood
Interesting name progression there.....
Miss Flood has also been pointed out to have a dress sense very similar to another forum favourite.....

Thought that was a decent re-edit/cut-down/omnibus showing. Wisely cut a chunk of the weaker part 4 material on Mars. New CG was unobtrusive and used sparingly. Only change that took me out of it was using a memorable music cue from Logopolis (!) over some of the Doctor's dialogue. -Ralph
