Good times! Though it usually meant end of season 2-parters were prohibitively expensive by being split over two tapes (at least until they released those edited-together versions).
I bought The High Ground with it not being shown on the BBC at the time. Slightly disappointing after all that, but at least it came with The Hunted (so many episodes are paired in my mind because of this!).

I too have the strong pairing of episodes in my mind due to how they were released on VHS.
I remember specifically getting the tape with Conspiracy on it just to see the exploding head the BBC cut on broadcast.
Conspiracy is a packed episode by today's standards. Nowadays that story would probably be a season-long arc.

I got Conspiracy as well! The Neutral Zone was a bit of a change of pace after that.
You're right about how that would run these days. It was nice how they subtly seeded it earlier in the season, rather than make a big dramatic deal out of it dragged out over lots of episodes.

Conspiracy is a stunningly good episode. One of the best.
They should have done a follow-up. It would gave made a good movie.

Pretty sure I still have DS9 season one on CIC video in the loft. The blue covers were gorgeous. Imagine if we were still in a situation where keeping episodes took that much shelf space!

There's a nagging memory that there's TWO versions of the v1 cover depending if it's a rental or retail tape.....

I wonder what the last series I completed on VHS was.

Continuing my mostly first-time Voyager watch-through roughly in sync with the Delta Flyers podcast, I just got to Alliances. Which was pretty decent? For all their flaws the Kazon have been in some good episodes this season. And the concept of them revealed here is actually quite interesting - if only this had been explored some more, and the character designs had been better!
So much of Voyager so far is _nearly_ great...
Speaking of which, I know which notable episode I get to watch for the first time ever next...

Also on toph's top five list of most boring DS9 episodes. Which also includes the Vic Fontane episodes and mirrorverse episodes.
During TNG/DS9, someone who didn't make the move to voyager and enterprise had a weird fixation on 40s-60s detective noir/gangster, spy, and ratpack/gangster fiction.
(This stands out differently to me than character focused stuff like Data's Sherlock Holmes, or Paris's Captain Proton. The Detective Noir/Mafia, Spy, and vegas/ratpack/mafia themes keep popping up over and over)

This made me wonder how the holidecks on the Enterprise work. Not how they function, but how they work. We know Quark owns the holo-suites, and you need to book them through him. (Though they never explain why enterprise crew prefer holo-suites over holodecks they can use for free, any time they want) We know that you need to book use of the holodecks on Voyager, and it's a problem when someone goes over their allotted time.
On the enterprise, there's maybe 4 holodecks? And 1,000 people. And there always seems to be a free holodeck when the crew needs one for work purposes.
So... How? How do you schedule time to use it? Who do you book it with and for how long? There doesn't seem to be the same conflicts as with Voyager, since they had to go looking for Barclay.
I kinda think someone on the production team had these same issues since DS9 and Voyager started to address them.

As a warm-up, I am watching on the same channel my first ever episode of 'Enterprise'. Dr Sam Beckett's ship is in a minefield! Martin Been a while since I seen it, but I *think* that's one of the better episodes. Enterprise is so frustrating. It never got the chance to really shine, so much of it was spent on the Temporal Cold War. And I genuinely love the ship designs, even though they're so wildly out of place. (That Romulan BoP is one of my all time favorite ships, but it looks like it should be in TNG, not pre-TOS) And uniform and set designs did such a good job of being transitional between NASA/Naval Submarine aesthetic to Starship aesthetic.

Sam saved his crew member and his ship, but didn't leap out into a new body at the end of the episode! What sort of crummy sci-fi is this anyway???
