Just got an email from Brian at the Collectors' Club. Botcon 2009 will be on the weekend of May 29-31.
I'm hoping to go again next year. Anyone else?

As you'll know, I had planned to go this year as part of a longer holiday to the states post-Uni but I can't as I haven't got a job and the money I had put aside had to go on food and rent before I lost the flat. I hope those who do make it have a good time!

I do hope to go again next year, and hope to bring my nephew with me. Let the cutbacksand saving begin!

Well I'm broke but I'm still hoping to go. A few months later would have helped. Brother and his mate might be up for going to.

I've been thinking about it and if I go its going to mean a serious lack of spending. I kind of hope I dont like the exclusives this year as selling them would cover most of the convention costs.
Travels going to cost about £400 which to travel half way around the world isnt so bad then hope accomadation is cheap. I think I'm going to have to pass (at least for now) MP Grimlock, that makes me sad.
Also wow thats quite a large number hoping to go compared to a few years ago.

Clearly, someone on the Hub is a trend-setter! I suspect Tony.

'cause I read the wrong information.
I'll be in New York that weekend in May...could be tempting.

Well I just booked the convention hotel for the 6 nights. Pretty good sign I intend to go then.

As you might know, I've wanted to go again since going in 2003. I was particularly keen to go this year, being the 25th anniversary. I was disappointed when I saw the dates, thinking I wouldn't have the time to save for it. Out of curiosity, a few days ago I looked into costs a bit and was surprised at how cheap the flight are - around £350. (Actually about half the cost of late summer, which I thought would be a better time for me.)
So, it is just about within reach, at a pinch. However, there's another problem (which deserves its own thread)...

This is one of those suggestiones made by people with less sense than money which in my case explains why I have so little money. But if you went thursday to Monday and got into a room with 2 or 3 or 4 other people the hotel costs would be £50-100. Flights actually start from around £320 from London but it might cost you more to get there depending were you would be looking to fly from. If your willing to sell the boxset of toys (getting a loose set for yourself to keep or sell as well) you could sell it and cover almost the entire cost of Botcon. Volunteering would earn you at least one extra attendee freebie (and well you've seen how much the ratchets went for after) You could probably do the whole trip for £500 or less (particularly if the toys really are an Elite Guard/Wreckers/Mayhem Attack Squad set which seems very popular.) If you really didn't want to choose between the trips and could make some savings somewhere its as you said not as expensve as you might imagine. Maybe not sensible or practical, maybe you should ignore me. Andy

I wouldn't mind going to Botcon at some point but at the moment I'm missing two vital ingredients that will make it possible. One is money and the second is a passport.

Convention brochure went up and it looks like they've really pushed the boat out. The saturday night party is being held at Paramount Studios. First release of movie toys will be available at the club store and it looks like one of the Botcon exclusives will be Thuderclash along with Kup and the forming of the first Elite Guard.

Sounds excellent!
I take it the toys are Animated recolours with Thunder Clash being a recolour of Ultra Magnus, sort of thing?

I hadnt thought of that. I've seen an animated Prime turned into Kup which is excellent. It's also possible that it will be a classic/universe set as its the 25th annivasary.

Andy Bollocks, we were gonna do Thunderclash as a Scotcon exclusive. Andy

Yes he does. I like the more european approach with the linework.

That is a fantastic piece. I love the style, and the density of the line work. It isn't what I would have expected if you'd said "Andrew Wildman: Energon Starscream" to me, which adds a layer of pleasant surprise to it.
Lovely
