Oh that's the cannibalism one isn't it?
I think over time I decided Torchwood wasn't very good.

It wasn't for the most part. Especially in Series 1.
They Keep Killing Suzie is probably the best episode of the early run.

DAY TWO is starting.

I was so engrossed (even though I had seen it before) with season 3 I went to full screen display and so ignored the chat stream. Thrilling stuff. It goes like a rocket. The show really should have ended there. Partly due to the quality having reached a high and also because Torchwood itself as an entity was pretty much done by then.

It was the natural endpoint for Torchwood. The fact that they continued it and there was such a disconnect as if the events of S3 had barely happened.
I will be amused to see the reaction to the next series on Sunday.

Aged well? It wasn't that great to start with... I dread to think what time has done to it. When it aired I was clinging on by my fingers by half-way through. Only the sudden arrival of John De Lancie as the most sarcastic man in the US intelligence community got me through to the end.

I thought I would give it another go as I wasn't keen on it the first time. I bailed after episode 3. There are great ideas in it but it just doesn't work. It also isn't Torchwood anymore. It feels like a spin-off from it.

Yeah, between the co-production pulling it in ways it doesn't really want to go (literally as well as figuratively - the globe-trotting sounds like a good idea in theory but somehow doesn't look right in practice) and the fact that some of it never feels like it has all been properly thought through (the ending actually requires the villains to make a series of cringingly stupid decisions bringing about their own downfall which is both unsatisfying and kind of undermines Our Heroes a little) it just isn't "Ready for Primetime" as the saying goes.
It also has the problem of Torchwood already having had the best ending it was ever going to get. "Children of Earth" is absolutely superb on that front - with an ending that is both horrifying and heart-rending at the same time, and feels like it harks back to the very beginnings of the series. If that had been the end we would have gone from Torchwood as basically an amoral organisation that causes harm by doing nothing, to Torchwood trying to become a better thing, to Torchwood finally doing a truly terrible thing for a greater good - saving the lives of thousands by deliberately sacrificing an innocent... Yeah, that would have been an appropriate and impactful way for the series to end. Anything after that was never going to have the same impact.

I caught the last 20 minutes of the last Torchwood episode on the repeat stream. Even worse than I remembered. Not a good way to go out at all. At least we have the Big Finish audios. What I have heard of 'season 5' so far is great.

I spoke too soon! I put on the 2nd 'season 5' boxset yesterday. The first episode was about a DEADLY SEX PLAGUE which made Gwen and Jack get it on. In the first 'hilarious' scene Jack is done up the bum so hard he dies. I am not making this up. Then the next episode had MR BILLIS from season 1 return for a rubbish plan. Darn it.
