But sorry Tosh and Owen are dead. Seems they've gone to great lengths to make them likeable, and succeeded. And now they're dead. Oh well. Well that's the point isn't it? You have to make sure folk like the regulars you are planning to kill. If you kill of someone that people don't like they just cheer. Which wasn't really the effect that they were going for. Nice to see them have the 'nads to follow through on the "this job is dangerous" thing from the first season. Now they need to stay cold and dead - this one needs to stick I was pleasantly surprised by the episode to be honest. I don't generally have that much time for Chris Chibnall as a writer but this one was surprisingly good. Helped I think by a cast that were really firing on all cylinders. Did think that the reveal of the real villian of the piece was made a little bit to obvious, but I didn't feel that the point of it was the surprise - more the impact of the fact in character terms. A long step up from the finale of last season. On balance I think "Torchwood" has found its feet this year. There were one or two episodes I thought were terrible but in general they seem to have varied between acceptable and good (with a PJ Hammond script in there which I'd rate a long way above the rest). Much better batting average than Season One. Karl

that was a sad episode (except the fact that tosh took her time to die, but she proclaimed her love for owen *sniff*) plus they now have Spike yes! but, since when do nuclear power plants have a meltdown.....without anything to power the meltdown, that bit didn't make sense but oh well! Captain Jack is still fit though

I think the door is open for him to return for a guest spot in the future, but I doubt he will be in as a regular. I'm hoping that they fill the two open roles in the group with a couple of new characters. After all they've demonstrated they can create interesting new characters, they did it when they replaced Burn Gorman's character with a completely new one between Season one and Season two..... Nuclear plants don't need power to meltdown. In fact being without power makes them more likely to do so. No power, no pumps for the coolant system. Heat builds up inside the containment vessel, the nuclear fuel melts. Containment vessel ruptures.... nuclear material escapes into the nearby environment..... and bad things result... Karl

I downloaded episode 12 out of curiosity. That pier area we went to at Eastercon was indeed the Torchwood HQ entrance.

If it makes you feel any better, my mother has a frightening and unhealthy obsession with John Barrowman. She watches every programme he is in and makes disturbing comments about wanting to "turn him". This is not something anyone ever wants to hear from their mother. -Ralph

"Turn him!" That's mint! And, I agree, disturbing! Mother Doc', Karla and Mrs Shockprowl should get together and form the J.B. fan-club. Strategize on ways to 'turn him'.

I doubt that they'll be keeping James Marsters. I think the door is open for him to return for a guest spot in the future, but I doubt he will be in as a regular. They should have killed him off in a really poignant, moving scene in the series finale, then completely negated the effect of his death by bringing him back as a ghost in Sarah Jane Adventures. His interview on Declassified was the first time I have ever heard his actual voice. It was weird - after years of Buffy, Angel and now Torchwood, it sounded like he was putting on an American accent.

More to the point, since when does south Wales _have_ a nuclear power plant _to_ go into meltdown? (The nearest one's in England.) Torchwood is now seriously understaffed. Wonder who they'll replace them with. Martin

After all they've demonstrated they can create interesting new characters, they did it when they replaced Burn Gorman's character with a completely new one between Season one and Season two..... I read a (possibly untrue) story that one of the characters may not be all-new. That last sentence is appropriately cryptic.

More to the point, since when does south Wales _have_ a nuclear power plant _to_ go into meltdown? (The nearest one's in England.) More evidence that the immediate past of the Doctor Who universe diverged from that of our universe a-ways back. It looks like all the nuclear plants built in the seventies in the Doctor Who universe (off the back of our very successful space program) are fairly well spread out across the UK. Torchwood is now seriously understaffed. Wonder who they'll replace them with. Martin Well, I hear that Un.I.T has a good prison that they could have a rake through to find technical types..... But Ralph, if they transfer you down to Cardiff won't that mean that there is no-one covering the Glasgow operation. Hey, maybe if a vacancy were to open up I could commute. It's only twenty minutes to Glasgow after all..... Karl

It is a tradition of the Torchwood institute, and tradition should be upheld. And indeed, who know where you might end up when you leave Uni. When I left I ended up first in Falkirk, then in New Zealand and then back in Falkirk. Your path might lead anywhere. Karl

Cardiff also has no St Helen's Hospital nor a Hope Street. Considering all the fuss they've made about setting Torchwood in Cardiff, they've been rather liberal in inventing places for series two. (Gwen's wedding venue was filmed in four locations, up to thirty-odd miles from Cardiff.)

Technically Cardiff doesn't have a Torchwood Institute facility either mind you :-) Speaking of Gwen's wedding, you don't happen to know what the locations where - because I think I recognised one of them from many, many years ago. Exterior gardens - Dyffryn Gardens (cf "The Girl in the Fireplace") Churchyard - St John's Church, St John' Street, Cardiff (according to http://www.doctorwholocations.net) Service/reception interiors - Margam Orangery Hotel foyer and bar (possibly rooms and corridors) - Court Colman Manor Hotel, Pen-y-Fai, Bridgend (I recognised that one, now listed on doctorwholocations.net)

Cardiff also has no St Helen's Hospital nor a Hope Street. Considering all the fuss they've made about setting Torchwood in Cardiff, they've been rather liberal in inventing places for series two. They're rather unimaginative in their choice of 'hospitals'. In Doctor Who 'Aliens of London' they used Cardiff Royal Infirmary as the London hospital. Then in Torchwood season one they moved along Newport Road from the CRI to the next big building, Holland House Hotel, and shot that as their 'hospital'. Then in season two they move along to the _next_ big building on Newport Road (Brunel House), and shoot _that_ as 'St Helen's Hospital'. Going by this pattern, the hospital in season three should be the Capitol shopping centre. Martin

Tee hee. I'd forgotten about that little in-joke. I hadn't realised that she'd been in Who until I happened to look her up not long before the Torchwood finale. The characters even have the same name. (Dr Sato in Who.)

It's meant to be the same character. Hence the line to clear up what someone who blatantly isn't a doctor was doing there.
