A little later than planned due to Lego based jaunts and laziness but we're back with Episode 61. In what can only be described as a self-harming on a near-biblical scale our intrepid team are teabagging themselves with two titanic Time Lord related televisual tortures. Gently easing themselves into the horrors to come they kick off with Meglos, starring Tom Baker as The Doctor and an evil cactus. (It's not as much fun as it sounds kids). Although the extras do let us see into the home of Doctor Who script editor - THE BIDMEAD as well as a discussion of scene sync, cso and inevitably Underworld. A brief discussion of the excellent Doctor Who DVD ranges as well as the late Doctor Who producer John-Nathan Turner brings a brief respite before they watch K-9 and Company. Can the fortifying power of vodka and cardboard Spider-Man masks protect our team from the full horror? FIND OUT... Download from www.star-dub.com/?p=1182 or subscribe via our iTunes feed. Andy

Stardub Episode 62 - Grand Moff! Ta-kid! We're back after a wee delay (I mean we took longer than expected, no bladder control issues in this podcast), and so is Paul McGann! That one seems to a bit more popular on the internet than we are, for some reason. Steven Moffat penned the exclusive minisode - The Night of the Doctor which featured the return of Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor. Now this is the one nugget we wanted for the 50th Anniversary, so any wrongs Steven Moffat has committed, unintelligible arc plots, which fall down under examination, less episodes than we should have, the ever revolving door of producers (we miss you Beth Willis) are now forgiven. So we blether about that for a while, before turning to an equally important part of Doctor Who. No not Doctor Who Adventures, but we get to that later I speak of course of The Deadly Assassin - starring Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor. Reknowned for redefining Gallifrey, Time Lords and for getting Philip Hinchliffe the boot thanks to Mary Whitehouse. This is a shame for it should be familiar for a greater reason, the single greatest Time Lord who wasn't The Doctor - Castellan Spandrell as played by George Pravda. Doctor Who Adventures reaches the milestone issue number 333 and Andu (after a few ciders picked it up) and we talk about it and also the charming Mr Men and Little Miss Magazine, both publications put out by the same publisher aimed at younger readers. Which one is better, no no they don't need to fight. Just read the magazines or better yet let our hosts tell you. (Yes, there is swearing involved, and also some unfortunate choices of words). SHOW NOTES Astrodog - the wonderful comic by Paul Harrison-Davies that Andu was raving about. Read for free hereGo and buy in print hereThese are not requests or suggestions but orders! Available from www.star-dub.com/?p=1212 or iTunes. Andy

Best to use the Ipad to record them for a while then
Real Life is occupying your team currently but have no fear the Chrimbo ep is being planned.

Stardub Episode 64 – I Have An Evil Winking Fish! It’s 2014 so what better way to start a new year than by looking back on the old. Rolph and Andu talk about the gifts they gave and received to kick our show off, before talking about the splendid Lew Stringer and some of his mighty works (Combat Colin, Brickman and Robo Capers and the almost-forgotten One Cat and his Cod). Now Christmas isn’t christmas anymore without a Doctor Who special. Now the last Doctor Who episode left our team as giddy as schoolgirls, can the Moff retain the quality at Christmas… We take a wee break to plug the impending Scotcon gathering and mention the culinary delights of Scotcon – The Deep Fried Pizza and The Pizza Crunch. Learn how one of the team was refused entry to see The Muppet’s Christmas Carol at the Cineworld in Edinburgh for being on his own and in possession of a beard and glasses. Take a guess gentle listener you have a fifty per-cent chance of being correct. We end the show with a happier cinematic discussion, that of the team’s outing to see the 1989 Tim Burton Batman film. Can be found at: www.star-dub.com/?p=1284 Or at Itunes. -Ralph

Sirs,
I wish to point out that you missed out the crucial fact that the 12 cinema rating was invented for the Batman film

I would love to do something but I don't know how to record.
What about using SKYPE?

It's something we can do. I've done a few dubs with Skype, but the quality isn't there if connections get buggy, and it would depend on lining up schedules so all parties are there.
For recording if you have a Windows pc then audacity is pretty easy to use to record an audio track and convert to mp3.

Stardub Episode 65 - Brick To The Future of Law Enforcement! It's an uncommonly topical installment of the Stardub podcast this time out, as our titanic hosts Rolph and Andu speak to you from the Baines Cave about their recent cinematic ventures. First off the blocks is the Robocop remake, where Samuel L Jackson auditions for a James Brown biopic while Detroit City's finest becomes, part man, part machine, all cop. Or perhaps all Cop-Out? You see what we did there? Then on to the absolute joy that is the Lego movie, don't worry there are ZERO spoilers about the Lego film, as you need to see it knowing as little as possible, but trust us. It's going to be the most fun you will have in the cinema this year, or perhaps ever. We also get sidetracked about the unfortunate looks one gets for daring to see a family film, without having a family, but being in possession of a beard and glasses. (It's not the first time, remember Bagpuss Live!). Bookending the cinematic chat, Andu tears Games Workshop a new hole for Warhammer Visions, their newest publication and then is True Friended...by a most unexpected source! Twas a fun-filled romp from start to finish. I look forward to Andu's feelings on Mamma Mia! (The exclamation mark is part of the name, not me trying to add emphasis.)
I went to Sainsbury's this morning. Alas, their Kinder Eggs are missing the Marvel hell spawn toys. I was also dismayed to see that they are now £2 for a 3-pack.

Stardub Episode 66 - Instant Car-ma Continuing on from Episode 64 – a sweary intro from Andu prompts Rolph to talk about The Smugglers from Doctor Who. Which holds the honour of being the least remembered Doctor Who story of all time, the discussion runs the way of the Hartnell era and missing episodes in general. Our team then turn their attentions to Zenith, the popstar superhero from the pages of 2000ad as created by Grant Morrison and Brendan McCarthy and Steve Yeowell. Andu splurged on a copy of the limited edition (271 of 1000) HC run last year, and no he isn’t upset that there will be softcover editions later this year. We then revisit the Hogmanay Hell that Andu endured (along with Stunt Ralph’s, Karl and Nick) in the form of the DVD of the film “The Car”. Rest assured gentle listeners, your pain is insignificant compared to Andu’s. To cleanse the palette the team round off the episode with another dramatic reading from Zardoz! Stardub Episode 67 – Mamma Mia Culpa We kick off the episode with some shilling for the impending Scotcon gathering before diving in to the titanic text that is Transformers: Retribution. The latest official prose Transformers novel will it be the first prose effort to come close to unseating the mighty Eugenesis from pride of place? Place your bets and listen on… After that we experience Mamma Mia – the film based on the musical based on the songs of Abba, which sees Colin Firth, James Bond, Thor’s scientist friend and Howard Stark and other people butcher the songs of Abba and plunge Andu into a pit of despair without the solace of alcohol to help him through. After that to bring joy back into our hearts we look at two issues of a very rare Marvel UK comic – Marvel Action Hour from the space year 1996 which we’d forgotten about till all round swell bloke and ace cartoonist Lew Stringer mentioned them on twitter and his blog. Also we’d like to be a bit serious for a moment and point you in the direction of www.tfradio.net/jd to help raise funds for podcaster J D Church’s widow to help cover medical bills and other costs following his passing. As listeners to the show, you no doubt spend money on tat of dubious merit, spend a little less and throw some money to a good cause, especially if like us you enjoyed his podcast contributions on Fanboy Vs and Radio Free Cybertron. It’s been far too long since the Stardub team inflicted their usual rantings about whatever random things take their fancy (not to mention sizeable chunks of their income) but we’re back baby! So what delights await within Stardub Discovery you ask? Well the valuable opinion of two grown men on the Transformers BusyBook for pre-school children – THRILLING! A potted history of Star Trek tie-ins as a gentle lead into RALPH READS STAR TREK! (You may want a lie down and a cup of tea after this one) – INTENSE! A random comic acquired from a well-known charitable shop in Edinburgh as part of THE UNCANNY OXFAM which will form a watery dagger into the hearts of fans of Marvel’s First Mutant. IMPERIOUS REX! Download and enjoy from www.star-dub.com/?p=1852New iTunes feed coming soon...
