Beast Wars: Transmutate
What the fuck was that all about?!
Very weird and downright disturbing episode.

It was brilliant. Sadly one of the few times Silverbolt didn't irk me and Rampage got some plot to himself (he gets some more when Depth Charge showsup and but they only clash three times! Wha?).

Yeah, Rampage is a cool character, but it was just such a downright weird episode, not like any of the others at all.

It was too weird and musty for me.I miss Dinobot. They should have had him in that episode. Rampage should have fought more with him. I thought transmutate was a good episode despite the writers sometimes mess up .

Now if I have this right:
* Megatron knows what's on the Golden Disk or at least that the original Megatron had left info on it, even before he steals it.
* Dinobot also knows what's on it in general, but apparently doesn't know the specific details as he needs to ask Tarantulas.
* Tarantulas didn't know what was on it, or so it appears. But at the same time, he was specifically sent into Megatron's group by the Tripredacus Council who specifically want to take out the Ark.
Which brings up the questions of how the heck Megatron knew what was on it, why Tarantulas didn't know (unless he just didn't know the specifics and was pretending about not knowing the generalities), what Blackarachnia planned to use the data & Ark for, and why Megatron said "we're after Energon!" (which apparently the Disk did contain info on) and not tell anyone his real plan when everyone on his team would be in favour of it.
Also why Dinobot was in on the original plan when he's paralysed & indecisive over whether history can be changed at all.
And why the Maximal Elders were keeping it, when they presumably did know what was on it.
And what Megatron's original plan was when he says "unwilling though I was to follow my namesake's instructions".
Beast Wars was making this up as it went along, wasn't it?

Yep. Forward and Ditillio have been pretty upfront about it numerous times.

Thought so.
It gets more confusing when you add convention material and the like in - now it's actually Cryotek stealing it for financial reasons and Megatron steals it from him with Tarantulas directly decoding it (so he should know everything on it!), and also the original Predacons know what's on it and are helping...

BW is one of those series were the whole backstory falls to bits if you look at it funny. So I try not to!

Wait...I don't see any inconsistencies whatsoever...
I mean - it's like real life history.
Try to explore human history and you will find that it is not always 100% clear why certain things happened, and there are always conflicting theories about who said, knew, did what and when.
Human history is often a tangled web.
Why then do we expect that Beast Wars has to be linear in terms of motive and plot when real human history never is?

Plus it's still a head-scratcher that Megatron knew what was on the mysterious closely-guarded relic before he stole it. Also that the Tripredacus Council are pissed he stole it and time-hopped when their whole "blow up the Ark" plan would mean... stealing it and time-hopping.

I always let Beast Wars off with a certain amount of inconsistency - the show blatantly changes premises between each season. After all, the first season clearly isn't intended to be set on Earth at all, they effectively "stealth relocate" the show between seasons. Within each inidividual season the show stays fairly consistent with itself, but between seasons all bets are off. Not that I mind too much - the Golden Disk is basically just the Maltese Falcon anyway, a thing everyone wants to get and are prepared to kill for. It doesn't need much more explanation than that really. Karl

After all, the first season clearly isn't intended to be set on Earth at all With the characters deliberately looking for Earth, the planet looking like Earth & full of Earth species, and the second moon being fake anyway, it does seem they intended it to be Earth in some way or other. Or the first bit could've just been a "just in case" thing.

I thought it was just "a planet rich in Energon" that the Golden Disk was due to lead them too. But I could be mistaken - like I say it has been a while and my old memory is not what it was. Karl

Dinobot's original blow-up is that they're not on Earth and Megatron's not only stranded them, he's stranded them on the wrong planet.

Bonus points for doing it in the style of a children's tv presenter in the educational shows.

Actually, "disk" is quite acceptable.
The American spelling is typically used for computer storage media (with the exception of compact disc, having its origin in audio media). Also, the artefact was created and named in America so would probably have been first written down with a "k".

"If discovered by alien life forms each Voyager has a 12-inch gold-plated copper disc mounted on its body. The disk has recorded sounds and images of Earth designed to portray the diversity of life and culture on the planet."

Another question unanswered by Beast Wars - why did nobody punch Silverbolt in the slagging face over that whole "it is wrong to shoot Blackarachnia because she has boobs" thing? (Also helping her reach the Ark which helped MEGATRON reach the Ark, and how he seems only interested in reforming her back into Maximalness and not, say, Inferno)
No matter how many times I rewatch, Silverbolt gets on my nerves. I'm glad Graham wrote you as a total jerk.

Rewatched Bad Spark. It's the best "Silverbolt acts chivalrous-slash-dumb over Blackarachnia" ep ever because Rampage just laughs at it and punches him aside & then tries to eat him.
