It's been three years since my last TF convention and I haven't seen many of the Hub clan since 2007, so I fancy going AA this year. The toy aspect of Transformers doesn't really do much for me anymore but it was always the social side (read: drinking) that was the best part of conventions, so I'll definitely go if enough others are.
So who's going?

I should be going. I've booked my ticket for the convention but have still to sort out travel and accommodation. If all goes well those too will be sorted before the end of the month and I hope to be up there for the Friday before the convention. If however, I can't manage to get the time off work I'll should still be up there but I'll be arriving on the Saturday morning.

Is it 14-16 August?
I don't do TF conventions these days, but if enough people are drinking on the outside on the Friday and Saturday evenings I'll pop up to Birmingham for that and do some shopping during the day on Sat. Let me know if that fits with people's plans, and if so I'll make the arrangements.
'Course, if the convention itself takes up people's Friday and Sat. evenings, I won't bother.
Edit: I see from the excellent AA website that the convention does indeed incorporate the evenings, so please ignore this post - I should have checked before posting in this thread.

Martin Martin, You might be pleasantly surprised with AA2009 - it's a lot different to old TF conventions and we're offering a lot more than just dealers tables and a couple of guest panels! We'd love to see you there and welcome you back to conventions again. Plus we've got a bar that will be open until the small hours of Sunday morning! lol Simon

It sounds (and looks from the website) like an absolutely kick-ass convention by the standards of even the most discriminating of convention-goers. Sadly, I'm not any sort of convention-goer these days, and the most well put together TF con in the world - which AA2009 probably is - won't be bringing me out of my informal-pub-meet-only retirement. But I wish you the very best! Edit: I see from the excellent AA website that the convention does indeed incorporate the evenings, so please ignore this post - I should have checked before posting in this thread. Martin

What can you find in a pub-meet that you can't find at a TF convention Martin?
Other than topless barmaids in certain drinking establishments!

Let's just say a single-digit density of TF fans per square kilometre and leave it at that. Edit: I see from the excellent AA website that the convention does indeed incorporate the evenings, so please ignore this post - I should have checked before posting in this thread. Martin

There are still plenty of weekend tickets available Pete and rooms left in the hotel, it's just the reduced rate ticket offer for £40 that ended a while back. I'm also hoping to release the second batch of Saturday tickets in the next couple of days once I get back onto my own PC this week.

Just booked my coach tickets for Auto Assembly. All I need now is to book the hotel which I will only need for one day due to me not being able to get up there before Saturday.
