Well, for my part I am waiting for one version or another to come down to the magic seven pound figure before I pick it up. I'll probably go for the single disc edition on cost grounds I expect.
Oh and, as I haven't said it yet, welcome back to The Hub!

Cheers Karl, and as I don't think I've really said it properly, hello to everybody. Nice to see so many new (or at least people who seem to be new) members.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned, but the single disk as no features what so ever. I personaly enjoyed the makings ofs, so maybe worth the extra squid for the two disk.

Now down to £7 in Zavvi for the vanilla edition. I still found myself untempted.

I think I'll pick it up at some point or other but It'll have to be the two-disc edition as, like Shockprowl, I enjoy watching making of documentaries of films and in the case of Transformers they will be interesting to watch (at least for me anyway).

I did the math and realised that the saving I was making on "Casino Royale", "Shooter" and a couple of other things I can't recall off the top of my head, "Transformers" was effectively costing me nowt. It'll probably get watched once or twice and then stowed away to be brought out a future date when we have gathered with suitable booze/Irn-Bru. Karl

I wonder if they'll do a Transformers 1.5 when the sequel comes out at the pictures.

I'd stick money on that happening.

HMV now have copies of the 2-disc edition marked down to a tenner. I felt the terrible tug of temptation in the form of a spectral image of Andu sitting on my shoukder saying 'buy it' but I resisted on account of being stone cold sober so gave them a light dusting instead.

TFW2005 is carrying a news article that Bernie Mac has died. I can't find the news on the BBC or Reuters yet, but the Chicago Sun has a story on their web site. I have seen only a little of his comedy work, but it is a sad loss if the news is true.

I have now finally watched this on DVD, courtesy of Kaptain Karl. Er, glad my instincts were right not to buy a copy in all honesty. Just does not work (for me) on the small screen: the flaws are magnified (paper-thin characters, insipid plot, uneven tone) and the strengths (very well realised robots, score, sound design) lose a lot of impact outwith the cinema environment. It is indeed a cinema film, where it works OK in a big-screen/sound immersive environment and passes a couple of hours reasonably well. I'd maybe spoon out some coins for an IMAX showing again, but not for a DVD.

I have now finally watched this on DVD, courtesy of Kaptain Karl. -Ralph And thanks to you I have seen it on DVD a second time, several months after first obtaining it. I do agree that it loses a great deal when seen on the small screen. The fact that the first half is a collision between two distinct movies - teen coming of age flick and action film - feels much more obvious on the small screen, and outside of the theatrical environment some of the comedy stuff becomes excruciatingly drawn-out and I find myself just wishing for it to end. The film got away with a lot in the cinema because it was large and loud and threw splodes and huge giant robots at you every so often, but viewed in the home environment it is stripped of that turf advantage and doesn't fare as well. Seen in the cinema it is a competent enough dumb action movie, but it doesn't work anywhere near as well in the home environment. (I got the DVD in a 5-for£35 sale a while back with several films I had been planning on buying anyway, so I view it as having cost me the equivalent of No Pounds and No Pence. Having seen it twice now I figure I have got my moneys worth from it one way or another.) It'll probably sit there a few more months, and it I don't get the urge to watch it again in that time it might land up in one of the periodic purges Karl
