So my DVD of TF:TM (the first version to be released, with the Paul Cannon 'Pokemon of the 80s' TV spot) is toast.
It needs replacun'.
What is the best R2 version of this film available? What is the best EVAH version of this film on DVD?

Don't touch Reconstructed with a bargepole. It's shit.
The 2-disc 'Ultimate Edition' is currently in both FOPP and HMV stores for £2 in current sales.

The soundtrack still kicks arse. Only just got round to replacing my childhood cassette tape with a spanking cd copy. The tape was played to death and now warbles incoherantly.
Cock rock at its finest.
The battle's overrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! The warrrrrrrrrrrrr has just beguuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun!

Instruments of destruction was awesome, especially the bit where the singer just screams an entire verse instead of singing.
I'm now just gonna stick this movie on instead of watching the Fallen and when someone asks me if the Fallen was any good im simply gonna give them a review of the only Transformers movie I know. This one.

Holy crap. This is possibly the first time I've actually *seen* TF:TM. I have the cleaned up Ultimate Edition version on my laptop. And I can see Cybertron's rocky core and the female Lithonian.
This version is so much better. Much much clearer. Unicron looks awesome.

With looking in the last release DVD booklet. That in the voice actors section it doesnt mention Gregg [not just saying this due to him being at AA in 3 days time]
Just that the Movie couldn't finished if you removed Grimlock from it. Wheelie could have stuck with riding on Sludge - but that only leaves Swoop to give the Dinobots direction while roaming around on Quintessa. Resulting in them arriving back on Cybertron too late?

Transformers: The Movie got a mention on Kermode & Mayo's film review from January the 13th. At 1 minute exactly of the podcast, a correspondent from Amsterdam emailed saying someone called Edward who worked as a projectionist at a film theatre called The Lookout was having a party at the film theatre to celebrate leaving his job as the projectionist to write a thesis. The party would include a showing of his favourite film which is Transformers: The Movie at the film theatre.

Which one's the Ultimate edition?

Two disc edition with the widescreen on one disc and pan and scan on the other.

TURNBULL!!!!
There is no pan and scan version! It was animated in 4:3 and cropped to 16:9 for cinematic presentation, hence the myth of the widescreen version.

I saw some bits of the film on blu-ray at the weekend. I am in two minds. The picture quality is exceptional. The movie has not looked so good since it was in cinemas. I thought the sound master was rather flat though in comparison to dvd releases.
Will still acquire at some point though. Looks stunning.

Ye olde Maverick release has been re-acquired for one Earth pound. That's the one with the 'amazing' gallery video extra with the swearing.

Not to mention the clip from I Love 1984 with friend of the parish Paul Cannon putting in an appearance.
It would be nice if someone had ripped them from the DVD and would upload them to youtube wouldn't it.
