I noted today the budget release has now turned up in Poundland for, yes, £1. Also piles of GI:Joe The Movie, incidentally.

I picked up the Joe movie from Woolies for £2 several months ago. Enjoyable tosh. Doesn't look anywhere near as good as the TF movie though.

Well worth it for that opening sequence. No point in watching the film after it.

Yeah it's a bit of a chore after that and more often than not unintentionally hilarious.

It always makes me wonder why i bought the SuperSpecialMegaEdition in the snazzy tin for 15 quid when i already own 3 copies across DVD and VHS.
Then i realise it's because Transformers the movie is the greatest film ever made.

Three? Feh! I have at least nine.
Transformers The Movie was the first ever video I bought.

I got rid of most of my alternate versions, I still have the first Madman R4 release and I have the Sony 20th Anniversary edition.
Don't need anymore and I begrudge giving a shitty outfit like Metrodome any of my money so their release won't be bought.

I know, it's a pitiful ammount...
This is probably the most esoteric thing ever, but the best version of Transformers the Movie is without doubt the 'Maggie Thatcher' version which my friend has. Classic action.

Basically..*deep breath*...
As little nippers, the only copy of Transformers the movie we had was a tattered VHS which was played constantly through my childhood at my friend Kris's house. This is the only time i ever saw the movie as a youngster. At one part, for reasons unknown the picture breaks down and the scene shifts to Margaret Thatcher giving a really dull speech as Mikhail Gorbachev looks on with dim approval.
This happens at the exact point where Optimus first transforms and 'The touch' comes on. It lasts all the way through until the start of the Megatron fight.
So until i was about 16-17, and i bought my own copy...I had never seen that amazing scene. Can you imagine loving this film so much but missing the most OTT scene of the lot?
So even though it's cutting out good bits, it's taken on a sort of cult status amongst my pals. If we ever stick the movie on there's always some debate on whether to watch the DVD or the Maggie Thatcher version.
*exhale*

I think the digital versitile disk copy I have I purchased for 6 UK dollars a few years back. I do love the film, but I've always had loads of issues with it. Fundamentily the story just didn't go in the right direction for me. Loosing all those old characters. Optimus shouldn't have been killed- and don't get me going on Prowl! (I LOVE Unicron though...) Said that, I understand they had to make it a showcase for their new line of toys. To me, in a way, it marked the point at which, as a child, TFs started to loose a bit of the magic, 'cos with all the futuristic alt forms, the whole "Robots in Disguise" jobby just didn't fit anymore IMO.
And the Smeggers killed Prowl!!!!!! He was NEVER in the cartoon! Shows up on the big screen and gets wacked, barfing up orange smoke n'all. Damn their eyes! Strip their britches from their backsides and warm their heels to Putney Bridge (or how ever it goes)!!!

So who saw the film on the big screen? I saw it in an almost empty theatre. All who were there was my mum, dad and myself and down the front one other boy in with his dad.

Didn't see it on the big screen, but to be fair I was only four. First time I saw it was a friend's taped-off-TV-edition VHS. I was familiar with what happened though due to the comics.

I've said it before. I'll say it again. Ratchet and Ironhide are clearly visible among the Autobot soldiers in Fight or Flee. Prowl appears in Headmasters. They were all facsimile constructs sent to bulk out the crew, apart from Brawn who was piloting the ship alone. He was carted away by the Decepticons and rebuilt at a later time, which is why he is seen fighting on their side in Carnage in C Minor.
The only people who died in the movie are Starscream (sort of), Prime (briefly) and Windcharger (because nobody cared).

I didn't care who got killed. It was 20 years in the future and I had absorbed Soundwave's propaganda that the cartoon series wasn't the true story of the TFs.
Alternatively, I may have the mentally repressed the loss of Optimus Prime bottled up inside me for 20 years and will have to go on a rampage at some moment in the future.

I never saw the movie at the cinema - mostly because as far as I am aware it never came to the cinema in Stirling at all (not that I'm surprised given it's short theatrical run in cinemas). I first saw a copy of it that someone else had taped off Sky when I was in High School.
I sometimes wonder if part of the reason it has never "stuck" with me quite so much is that I was that bit older when I first saw it. At the time, and still today, I had a lot of time for the quality of the animation but it has never really gelled for me as a story.

The 'Reconstructed' version of this was £3 in The Works so I thought I'd give it a whirl at that price as I had passed on it full-price at time of release due to the bad reviews it got. It's dreadful. Looks and sounds awful. I have never seen/heard such a bad 'restoration job'. I can't recommend it. If you want a copy of the movie on DVD pick up the Sony R1 or Metrodome's later 'Ultimate Edition' version. Both offer a much finer viewing experience.

Me, Ben and our cousin Stu were taken by my Dad to see this film on the big screen. Apparently I proper bawled my eyes out, but I don't remember.
I don't doubt it, though. Catch me in the right frame of mind and everything up to (and including) Starscream's execution chokes me up even today.

Actually stuck this in last night whilst doing the dishes. Listened to the Chris McFeeley (sp) commentary again. Rather entertaining upon another listen. Maybe I was in a better mood than last time.
Going to give it some proper attention at the weekend I think.
