We started yapping about this on the old board, but following the recent DVD re-releases I've finally added RID to my collection.
Having viewed the first set and discovered profiles on the third disc (not listed on the box) I guess these are repackagings of the previous releases and not extra-less as first thought. I really don't get why they've opted to title them as seasons one and two, or why there's a cardboard outer box. Or how Koji and Megatron being referred to by their Japanese names on the back went unnoticed...but at these cheap prices I don't really care.
The show itself is great fun. You have to feel bad for the Predacons, to start off with they are hopelessly outnumbered. Before the Decepticons turn up, the four of them (four as Megs is sitting on his arse mostly) are up against something like 15 Autobots. Then having successfully turned the Autobot protoforms into Decepticons, the Preds find themselves cast aside with Megs heaping praise on the newcomers, despite the fact they really don't fare any better - although to be fair this is sometimes caused by Skybite interfering.
I'm loving watching through the show, it's a shame it didn't last longer.

I'm a big fan of Sky-Byte. He's such a ridiculous character.
The series is very enjoyable. I just need to track down part 2 of the DVD collection.

RID was the last decent TF show that was produced, hopefully the new one will reverse that trend. Enjoyable fun and didn't take itself too seriously.

Well I really enjoyed Galaxy Force, but as a more serious (than RID) take on Transformers it was ridiculous how no died - no matter what happened. The only two death's were Vector Prime and Galvatron - and even they turned up in the end credits of the last episode battling away in the afterlife.
Apart from that I generally loved it. Energon was pants though. And I still haven't seen a single episode of Armada.

Armada is the cheapest looking TF series there has ever been.

I thought it was, but then I saw a few episodes of Cybertron!
I love RID! It's the TF series that gets pulled off the shelf to watch the most. Takes a slightly dull cheaply animated Japanese show and through a decent dub turns it into solid gold. It's just fun to watch. And Neil Kaplan is my favourite Optimus Prime.

I've got a lot of time for "Robots in Disguise" it doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is - an action comedy for kids - and takes it's best swing at achieving that. I have both of the recent DVD sets, but haven't had time to watch them as yet. (I did wonder what the point of the cardboard case was, especially as it contains a plastic case which exactly duplicates the card one..... Also, why do both sets have exactly the same synopsis text on the back? Couldn't possibly be penny pinching could it?)
I am looking forward to getting a chance to watch them in DVD quality - RiD is a lot of fun, for its (almost non-existent budget) reasonably animated and has a lovely colour palette (don't laugh, colour palette is important. I've seen shows dragged down by a poor choice of colours to work with before now). Plus it does have Neil Kaplan - who puts in a fantastic turn as Optimus Prime.

I have the first issue of the DVD set. I only have part one, and can't find part 2 for a decent price. How do the new DVDs match up? I know there are two new issues, do they contain the same episodes, or will i be simply buying the original set i already have? Questions!

I suspect that they are fairly straight reissues of the previous release. (But I never owned the previous release). Set One of the current release contains "Battle Protocol" through to "Wedge's Short Fuse", with the second set containing the remaining episodes "Landfill" through to "The Final Battle". If that is any help. Karl

...damn. I just realised the boxset I got only has nine episodes and the more recent ones have all of them. So now I'll need to buy the new sets. Curse you second-hand shopping!

I haven't stated in this thread that "Sky Byte Saves the Day" is one of the best TF episodes ever.

I would have thrown things at the screen if something bad had happened to him.
Also, Brave Maximus rocks.

Sky-Byte is very much the star find of the RiD show. I would have been greatly saddened if he hadn't got a happy ending. Along with Scourge, Sky-Byte was pretty much my handsdown favourite character in RiD.

For the duration of the last episode, i was quite concerned with Sky-Byte's fate. When they were all floating around Superman style on their way to Cybertron i was sure they'd have him there, but i let out a yelp of triumph when i saw him swim into the sunset.
I still haven't found a decent replacement for my child-mauled Sky-Byte, which is a shame. I was thinking about getting 'Cybershark' and taking bits off him but it wouldn't be the same.

The WGA strike's holding back production of the Transformers 2 scripts - there's time enough for the masses to picket Dreamworks into giving us live-action big-screen Sky-Byte...
But only if he beats the snot out of Optimus for insulting his poetry.

They can give him cheaper CGI than the rest to save money.

Skid-Z Choice may be one of the greatest Transformers stories of all time.
Skid-Z drawn into ever more ludicrous races, up to and including the tortoise and the hare! Sky-Byte disguising himself as a car and getting hit on by Side-Burn! T-AI freaking out as bullet trains enter the Grand Prix! Megatron beating up Sky-Byte twice by mistake! Spychangers hiding in snow! Shocked Predacons exclaiming "no fair, he's ignoring the laws of gravity!"!
It can never be equalled. Unless there's an upcoming ep with a Ninja Consultant.

I take the above back - Attack From Outer Space equals it. Gotta love Movor.
