I expect this trailer to go down well with the Joe fanbase because it is DARK and SERIOUS. Recall how vocal that lot were about how much they hated the first film including a hilarious campaign on YO JOE to have the film banned from being released! -Ralph I do remember that. It is ironic in retrospect that they wanted to badly to prevent the release of the best action film of the year. I'm not really "feeling" this trailer. Whilst the previous films trailer promised me an awesome underwater base, Gi Joe saving the whole world from Cobra this one seems more like "elite commandos save America from evil invaders" and doesn't seem to promise quite the same level of over-the-top-ness. It may turn out to be good despite the trailer, that happens sometimes. On the other hand it might not. I'll probably see it seeing as it probably won't be a "costing me money" film but I can't say that I have the same "I need to see this film" response that I did about something like Iron Man II Karl

I hope Karl will forgive me for quoting him out of context. This looks like a film that has an epic degree of stupidity to it. I am thoroughly looking forward to it. This still applies. Martin

Reshoots to try fixing a dodgy film make an awful lot more sense than wanting to make more money from 3D.
No way is extra 3D income going to justify eating the advertising costs already spent, 3D conversion, reshoots and the next years advertising campaign costs.
And I would expect Hasbro to be pretty damned unhappy, maybe even due some compensation for what now is likely to be a disastrous toyline.

And an almost 4 year gap between films? Unless you're Batman, that just isn't going to fly.

It's being reported that in addition to the ofiicial line of 3D conversion, the delay is due to test screenings indicating that Channing Tatum's not in it enough, and hence reshoots. If you go looking for reports, beware of major spoilers! (Fortunately, the report I read had a spoiler warning so I didn't see the details.)

Oh dear. This does smack a bit of a film in serious trouble - and one that the studio is concerned about the prospects of. I wouldn't be surprised that there was some train of thought that they aren't going to get as many people going as they thought and so they should try and get more money out of each one - hence the post-conversion. Whether or not that is the case it does not bode well for the film that they are doing significant reshoots, and given the delay between the first film and this they definitely do not have anything you could call a franchise on their hands.

Amusingly, the 'Summer 2012 at the Cinema' ad now playing in fleapits features a few shots from GI Joe 2.
