According to this press release, the show could be a prequel of sorts.
Nickelodeon's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" begins as the turtles emerge from their hidden lair in the sewers for the very first time, ready to confront the wondrous and hostile world of New York City and face enemies more dangerous and pizza more delicious than anything they could have imagined. Funnier and with more Ninjitsu than ever before, the show will explore the camaraderie of four teenage brothers learning to rely on themselves and one another as they unravel the mystery of their existence and grow to become the heroes in a half-shell that they are destined to be.

Been told by a pal who went to SDCC and attended the Nick panel that Shredder in the new show will be a more matured version of OT character.
So long as he's not Krang's poodle I am good with that.
Baxter Stockman simply must be in the new show. I often wondered if his 2003 incarnation was inspired by Darvos somewhat, with a hint of Morbius as well. I'd welcome a version of this character in new Nick TMNT rather than one based on the OT.

I'm still not liking the CG designs, but the show itself seems like it could be interesting.

I got word now that the added blades on Mikey and Don's weapons are now detachable. I am guessing that's a good compromise. Personally, I like the Bo and Nunchaku the way they are.
I've also got word that Kevin Michael Richardson will be the voice of Shredder. I hope it sounds a little different to Bulkhead and Panthro.

Well, he was also The Joker in "The Batman", so I think he has enough range... I hope he goes for something less deep.

Wow Shredder looks awful there. I haven't been impressed with what I have seen so far, but I am still keeping an open mind in hope that my opinion may change once the show airs.

Pumpkinheaded kid April is going to take some getting used to. Comics fans have been rejoicing as these guys are said to be turning up in the show: The Rat King, Leatherhead and Flaming Carrot!

I was looking at pictures of the new figures and they look rather cool as does the 2D artwork that's appeared. I'm hoping the CG work will have improved when the show arrives.

Me too. I have heard however that the finalized figures won't have as detailed paintjobs on release. I hope at least the weapons still get some color. At the end of my tether with gummy accessories . The UK wont be getting the figs until Spring next year if that's any clue to when the show will air here. Really hoping for a proper preview teaser vid real soon.

Some more pictures. Love the movie-style Foot designs. The Shredder reminds of someone but I can't quite place it. Turtles are too blocky but I like some of the facial expressions.

Does Shredder look like Patrick Moore to anyone else?
I agree that the Foot look great, but so far I am really hating the look of the Turtles. The show looks like it was done on a very small budget, but again I will watch the show before I make up my mind on the style of it.
You never know, i may end up loving the show and the weird looking style of it.

I wonder how Shredder lost that eye. It kinda reminds me of Matrix's eye from Reboot.

I'm very much excited for the new series, and especially the toyline. I love the designs, but they don't work in CG. Being in CG is the only part I can't stand. Interested in seeing what they do with "The Kraang," being a combination of Krang from the cartoon, and the Utron that inspired him. Shredder's design looks mindnumbingly dull. The last cartoon killed Shredder for me by removing anything that made him interesting, and turning him into an Utrom, plus a mantle character. His design was fairly boring to me, and I'm not happy to see that they copped that design. I would have much preferred them to take their inspiration from the Mirage comics, or movies. Even the original cartoon. The turtles, I love that they're styled more in line with the original designs for them. But like I said, the CG does not work for it. Looks great in toy form, and in art, but not in CG. I also like the new take on April. Much better than the cartoon, and original comic (Do *not* like what I've read about them doing to her in the original comic).
Here's hoping to a new Miyamoto Usagi!!!!

When you mean mantle character for Shredder, you mean the demon he turned out to be in Season 5/The Lost Season, right?
I like the designs, except for Splinter in the new toon.
Don has a crush on April, ah bless.

I appologize for not being more clear. It's a term that gets used for superheroes, and I'm just more used to discussing with other superhero fans. Mantle is a term that sometimes gets used when a whole persona gets passed down from one character to the next. When someone gives the costume, title, and persona of a hero to another person so he/she can carry on the legacy, that's considered passing the mantle. Another term that gets used is a Legacy Character. The Flash is the best example of this, as the mantle passed down from Jay Garrick (Golden Age), to Barry Allen (Silver Age), then to Wally West (Barry's Kid Flash), and then to Bart Allen (Modern Kid Flash/Impulse). Batman is also a Mantle/Legacy character, as it went to Dick Grayson when Bruce died. Captain America has likewise been passed down from Steve Rogers, to Bucky. (Though Marvel doesn't do this nearly as much as DC).
How this relates... I may be wrong but I had heard that in the 2003 series, Shredder was a mantle that had been passed down over several centuries, from the original Oroko Saki, until it wound up with the Utron who was Shredder in that cartoon.

That's right. Oroku Saki was a good guy and a member of the Ninja Tribunal until the demon Shredder corrupted him. How the whole thing got passed to Ch'rrel was not explained AFAIK.
The Mantle stuff is interesting. I see what you mean know.

They're rolling things from the Mirage comics, from the old cartoon, from the movies, and even some elements from the 2003 series... it would be really nice to see some nods to the Archie Comics pop in. I would *kill* to see Armaggon, Ninjara, or Cuddly the Cowlick (And the intergalactic wrestling federation turn up. Or a nod to the Mighty Mutanimals.

Mutanimals would be great! I think they got a bad deal in Archie comics towards the end.
And, we must have Cryin' Houn in there too.
Judging from Shredder's profile, it looks like Karai will have an all new origin. I assume she will be setup as an antagonist for April.
I predict a fair bit of storyline will probably go on underground since Leatherhead and Rat King are on the cards. Those two could either end up villains, goodguys or tweeners too.

CRYIN' HOUN!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT HIM!!! He was absolutely EPIC to me as a kid!
I knew Leatherhead was in the cards, because seeing him and Metalhead at toyfair was one of the biggest geekouts I've had in a loooooong time. Hopefully Leatherhead will follow his Archie storyline, and start off as a badguy, then switch to a tortured goodguy trying to make up for his misguided sins.
If you haven't figured out, I'm really big on the Archie TMNTA. That was some goooood stuff. Took the basic cornball plot of the cartoon, did not underestimate the intellegence of children, and allowed it to grow and mature alongside it's readership. Even as a kid, I watched just about every episode of the cartoon until it went off the air, but it was the archie comics that really made them for me. (When Manga was so all encompassing, and every company was looking for something to put out in a manga style digest, I never understood why no one ever dug those up)

Archie comics for me too. We only had seasons 1-3 of the Fred Wolf toon air here (unless you could afford cable). Some of the really silly episodes of Season 4 were released on VHS, but that was about it. I'm the same Hero who posts on all the main TMNT communities btw . TMNT certainly has a backlog of characters to remediate and help it interesting. It seems like it wants to do more animal based personalities (which 2k3 strayed away from) like the old toon and Archie did. I would not rule out Rocksteady and Bebop cropping up somewhere down the line too. IIRC Ken Mitchroney is involved with the new show.

I would love to see a new Rocksteady and Bebop.
And that was one of the big reasons I couldn't get into the 2003 series. I don't know if it's because I grew up on the cartoon, the comics, or the toys, but to me TMNT at it's core is strongest when it's about the silly and wacky mutations we saw in the toys. The new focus on Demons, mysticism, and superheroes just didn't do it for me. Not saying there's no place for them, but only as a much smaller part.

Michael Bay has managed to upset TMNT fans everywhere in this snippet. I think he's just working the net again.

"These Turtles are from an Alien race". There are so many different takes on the Turtles so I don't really see it as a problem - other than I would have liked a fifth film in the series rather than a reboot, but the reboot thing has been known about for a while so I can't really feign annoyance. The fan reaction has been highly amusing. But what I really liked was Peter Laird's reaction to the news. Some sections of the fandom really love disliking the guy, always ranting on about how he doesn't like changes to the Turtles, so what does he think? "Could be interesting"
