Watching all the Indy films gave me a thirst for 80s adventure so tonight I am enjoying Romancing the Stone.
I think 1984 is a golden year for film.

We just finished our Lord of the Rings trilogy watch. Return of the King was still not good, barely improved by being the extended edition. It's the best third part in a cinematic trilogy that I've ever seen, and after our recent re-watch all three (extended editions only) remain firmly in my top ten films of all time. 'Return of the King' suffered most in its theatrical release, which left the last half-hour intact while butchering the rest of it, thereby making the film too ending-heavy, but the extended version is just fine. It's sprawling, it's rough around the edges, but its as good a mostly serious fantasy epic as has been attempted to date. High points: Saruman's triple death, the arrival at Minas Tirith, Denethor's madness, the lighting of the beacons, the ride of the Rohirrim, "I am no man!", Theoden's death, "That still only counts as one!", "This is for my old gaffer!", "I may not be able to carry it for you, but I can carry you," the destruction of the ring... Deserves every one of its eleven Oscars, except perhaps film editing for the awful cuts to the theatrical release. Martin

We will have to disagree. It sprawls and is a mess. Too much going on, too little point to most of it and too much 'set up' only to be immediately resolved/used to handily solve a new problem. That ghost army is utter nonsense for example and should have been built up over the previous two films. Plus we'd already seen a good guy army arrive in the nick of time to save the day in the Two Towers but done well there. And a calvary charge against what are essentially giant tanks (the elephants). Militarily nonsense and not something sensible as we'd been seeing them do before.

This week I am currently perhaps unwisely re-watching the Matrix trilogy.
The first film, I've seen a dozen times or more and rate very highly. The second and third, I've only seen once, in the cinema, and do not remember enjoying them. But they were on discount in Sainsbury's and I thought I'd give them a second chance. I may regret it.
Watched the original yesterday. Matrix Reloaded tonight...
Edit: Oh my goodness, are they really making a fourth one?

The Matrix films went downhill big time after the first one from what I recall of my last viewing. I really must make time for a run through the director's cuts of all of the Middle Earth films. I haven't watched the Hobbit ones yet. Problem is now we're out of the Easter holiday my days are back to being busy, despite being at home. Lots to do.

I recall there being some fun action sequences within the Matrix in the course of the sequels, and I'm looking forward to those. But I also recall hating the 'real world' parts of those films.

I saw the LOTR films, once, at the cinema and remember nothing about them. At the time, I thought they were worthy but dull.

The Matrix Reloaded isn't as bad as I remembered. The middle third (from the Oracle to the highway chase) is great fun. But the parts either side of it are awful.
The trouble with The Matrix is the good guys are trying to escape/resist a colourful, multi-faceted world of interesting characters in order to save a bleak, grey, ugly one populated by boring/annoying people. Nothing about 'Zion' inspires me to cheer on those trying to save it. The sentient programs living within the Matrix evoke far more sympathy.

Wow, I'm glad I re-watched the Matrix trilogy. I was unfairly remembering Matrix 2 and Matrix 3 as being uniformly bad. Actually, half of Matrix 2 (the half within the Matrix) is really good.
It's only Matrix 3 which is all bad.

But yeah, it kinda gets stuck up it's own arse story-wise. And the third one is downhill. A fourth coming? Really? Not Hurd this? Been rewatching Fleabag recently. Really quite tremendous storytelling.

Watched the finale to the current DCAU - Justice League Dark Apokolips War.
Grimdark, gory as hell, and empty. A poor reflection of the Marvel cinematic universe.

Finished Lost in Space season 2 last night. Enjoyed that very much. Yeah, I thought it was rather good. I loved the way thy hinted at stuff about the Robots progenitors without ever really saying anything too definite (which would run the risk of getting rather silly), and I thought that a lot of the character stuff worked really well this season. My favourite element was probably the personal journey of the "robot expert", I thought that played out rather well. Karl

One enforces the law. The other tends not to care so much about the law. Frankly violence is to be expected in such situations.

Apollo 13 is a bloody good film.
There they were, halfway between the earth and the moon, and a bit of their spaceship blows-up.
Balls of steel them guys.
