This year's slow-burn watch is the third and final season of "His Dark Materials", they are on to the third book and doing a pretty good job with it I think. They are keeping the central core of the themes and the general shape of the plot but doing a lot of judicious pruning which feels like it is to the overall benefit of the flow of things (the third book was the one I felt was rather loggy when I read them a few years back). The cast remain brilliant - standouts being Daphne Keen, Amir Wilson, James MacAvoy and Ruth Wilson, but everyone feels like they are pulling their weight.
Although they have dropped the whole season on Iplayer at once, I am watching it at one episode a Sunday in order to keep pace with my sister's experiencing of it. So it should carry me through January quite well.

Was really impressed with the last season of His Dark Materials. I did not expect them to adapt the Amber Spy Glass so well, including the most controversial bit (if you know, you know).

Finished Daredevil season 2 while building the Ghost Rider Lego bike. Enjoyed season 2 well enough, but not as much as season 1. The Kingpin & Punisher in prison together was the best part.

Shaun the Sheep: Farmageddon.
Absolutely brilliant. Might still be on iThingy.

HEAT.
Staring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro (as well an entire cast of great actors).
The first (and last?!?) time they appeared on screen together.
Tense, awesome film that expects you to be intelligent; it doesn't just spell stuff out for the watcher all the way through.
Great film. Might still be on iThingy.

In advance of the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie, I am revisiting the old cartoon series on YouTube.
Sad to find out it didn't get either a pilot episode or a conclusion!

I loved the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon!
No conclusion you say? That's a shame.
I wonder if the movie is based on the cartoon?

This is true, though there are similarities in the mixed bag of central characters (thief, barbarian, sorcerer, etc.) and I wouldn't be surprised if the same main dragon Tiamat features in it somewhere (though if it does, it probably won't be voiced by Frank Welker, and I doubt Peter Cullen's Venger will be in it).

Speaking of children's shows, I'm really enjoying revisiting animations by companies like Film Fair and Small Films at the moment. Ones I saw repeats of as a nipper but also ones that had already gone and I've never seen. The Herbs is brilliant, and I'm quite taken by Mary, Mungo and Midge. Never seen those before. I'm enjoying working out the family trees of shows from the same company to see how the styles developed.
