Citadel: Watched the first three episodes so far. It's reasonable action tosh. Nothing particularly inventive or groundbreaking, but competently enough executed. I will admit that part of what makes it enjoyable to watch is the "Awww. Isn't that sweet" factor - so often it feels like it is very pleased with itself for this new trick it has learnt that it wants to show off. You kind of want to pat it on the head and give it a treat.
That said, they need to stop using that "camera rotates around its axis-of-view" shot. It wasn't nearly as clever or artsy as they clearly thought the first time. Three episodes in and it is starting to irritate me somewhat.
I'll probably watch the rest of it though - it makes for decent "with my dinner" television. And Stanley Tuchi is always good value.

I watched the first two episode and thought they were fine, but then did forget about it completely while I got totally engrossed in For All Mankind. I doubt I'll make a concious decision to stop watching it, but it might be one of those shows I simply forget to watch at some point and never get back to.
In its favour I like pretty much the whole cast from other things which helps and episode 4 kept my attention more than the previous 3.

In its favour I like pretty much the whole cast from other things which helps and episode 4 kept my attention more than the previous 3. Just seen Episode 4 myself. I thought it was more interesting than the first three. I think the dynamic works better with more characters in play for a start. That and it was very much doing the skullduggery thing rather than the action thing, which I find more engaging anyway. (I'll admit, I snort derisively every time anyone calls Mason Kane a spy. Running around shooting people, stealing things and running away from helicopters is not what spies do. Pretty much everything we see from him is more like special operations-stuff on steroids rather than espionage. Highly entertaining, but like the movie version of James Bond, Mason Kane would make an absolutely terrible spy. :-) ) I think this is fine, it is pretty much what I would have wanted from a proper S.H.I.E.L.D series to be honest, and it fits fine into the snazzy shoes of U.N.C.L.E and the like. It also has the advantage of knowing not to outstay its welcome. With only two episodes to go it should be able to stay nice and snappy now all the rocks are rolling downhill. Karl

I've seen episode 5 now, and can see what Karl was getting at on last night's call.
It's like they had a brainstorming session for what the shock plot twists in this story should be, and basically used every idea in the room.
The only way the finale can surprise me is if anything at all turns out to be as it seems.

My Covid recovery has been accompanied by various telly/video viewing.
- Masterforce episode 39 on the Magnus After Dark YouTube channel - just 3 episodes left to do
- Citadel episode 6 on Amazon Prime - enjoyably silly, with yet more revelations - trailer for season 2 looks good
- a weird live-action film called 'The Nutcracker' on Amazon Prime - not the Disney one, but one with Agent Simmons from Transformers as a singing and dancing Nazi rat king
- Law and Order repeats on 5USA

And today, a really bad movie from 2020 called 'Dragon Soldiers', which is somewhat redeemed by its end-credit bonus scene.

However... sadly not. Mrs M even went to bed halfway through. I endured to the bitter, bitter end. Very much the plot from Tron Legacy but with none of the style or visual presentation to back it up.

I too guffawed like the Kaptain at the post-credits bit. It was my only bit of joy, albeit not the reaction I imagine the film makers were going for!

It was all very "serious" and unwilling to admit the silliness of the underlying premise and just roll with it. Karl

Woah - Bill Murray!
How is a scene with Bill Murray in so boring?
So if this quantum realm is so tiny, sub atomic, and this lot shrunk down small enough to be in it, does that mean you can shrink down any where in the world and fall into it? That would make this tiny realm rather large wouldn't it? Or does it just exist between two specific atoms?
"cover me!" "always"
Good lord.

This has all the usual Marvel ingredients but it's so dull.
Strangely, I can also see how Martin sees the colour pallet as vibrant, but Karl sees it as sludge. It seems to be doing both at the same time.

I've bought all the Marvel films on Blu-Ray up to very recently, but I don't think I can buy that. Not even for the sake of completion. Maybe Phase 5 is Disney+ only for me.

I think we know the answer.

I don't recall there being much to talk about with those two polls. I do find it disappointing though that by playing by the rules so closely they count trial as one story. I would just once like to see where each individual part would come, and Colin has so few stories anyway.
I guess that would mean though that they'd have to do all the new series episodes individually instead of where they link into larger stories.
I don't see how trial can't be top given the variety it has. And the fact it's better than anything in the previous season anyway.

Yes, yes, yes I know! And I'll probably want to get Guardians 3. Have I really got to buy a disc I'll never watch just to have a complete set? Mightn't you watch some of the extras? Or take a nap while letting the audio commentary wash over you? It's odd, Quantumania breaks the neatness of my MCU collection. Up until this point I've collected sub-series on Blu-ray. I have the Iron Man trilogy, the Captain America trilogy, the Spider-Man trilogy, the four Avengers films, the two Doctor Stranges, The Incredible Hulk and Black Widow. I don't have any of the Thors, or any of the Guardians, or either of the Black Panthers, or Eternals. And I didn't have either of the first two Ant-Mans. But now I have Ant-Man 3. Does this mean I need to acquire Ant-Man 1 and 2? Martin

This afternoon I shall be getting myself in the mood for Rise of the Beasts by having FilmFour on in the house. It's showing Age of Extinction followed by The Last Knight.
I must admit to having some trepidation about RotB. I am very much afraid it will be mediocre - neither a genuinely good film like Bumblebee nor over-the-top outrageous brain-numbing nonsense like the Bay films. I fear it will be neither one thing nor the other. But I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
