Haha- the subtlety of the mother's recognition of her childhood is v. well played. Not sure the quality of Kraft Mac+Cheese is compensated by the Ninja Turtle shapes though.
Hotcha is very hit and miss and some have very bad hygiene ratings (Bristol Baldwin St. I believe). But portion sizes are good and price generally pretty low.

A McDonald's just opened less than five minutes drive away from my front door... I fear for my wasteline. It's compounded by being right next to a new drive-through Costa too.
Oh... and the Big Tasty's still out.

I had home made Lasagne on Saturday followed by a shop bought Tiramisu. www.sainsburys.co.uk/groceries/index.jsp?bmUID=1394472099709Whilst light, I would not class this as a good tiramisu. You know when you buy a cheap potato salad and it's too sharp and rich, taking everything away from the key ingredient and destroying any body the potatoes used to have? Yeah, this was like that, somewhat missing the point of what makes Tiramisu so nice. I made up for it with a rather excellent coffee and walnut cake I baked for the next day.

CURRY NIGHT!!!!!!
It's a Tesco Finest or something. Really nice actually. But, why do I have to pay more to have British chicken in my curry?

I thought we had a non sausages food thread but can I find it?
Anyhow....
Real Thai Fish Cakes are not Prawns, peppers and Thai flavoured potato in batter!

Potato cakes have potato in them.
Potato bread is superior.
Fish cakes require fish, Prawn is not a fish as far as I can see. Though I'm not a huge fan of thai fish cakes.
More potato = better.

Fish cakes require fish, Prawn is not a fish as far as I can see. As far as QI is concerned, there is no such thing as a fish, since, while looking and acting similar to one another, the various species of "fish" are more separated from one another in terms of their genetic make-up than they are separated from birds, mammals, lizards, etc. Martin

Great argument for evolution right there, if anyone still doubts it. All those different species evolving the same way.

It might be more accurate to say that calling them all "fish" does a disservice to the number of different species covered by the term. The same is true of bacteria- there's more genetic diversity in one thimble full of soil than in the entire animal kingdom. Still, I think abolishing the collective noun is just an excuse to make the buzzer go off on QI's part.

Arachnids aren't insects, lots of things don't make sense, Prawns still aren't fish. Shark are fish, Whales are mammals, breathing water clearly has something to do with it, but prawns are not fish they are seafood. Its more important for menu reasons than scientific ones.

I'm starting to feel sorry for Prawns. 'Seafood'. Talk about having your life spelt out for you.

Still, I think abolishing the collective noun is just an excuse to make the buzzer go off on QI's part. -Nick Wouldn't be the first somewhat spurious and rules-lawyering reason they have come across to make the buzzer go. And as it is usually Alan Davies walking into the beartrap... I am strangely ok with that... I thought Prawns were Crustaceans rather than fish anyway - which I think is something like having an exo-skeleton (the bony kind, not the powered kind. Although the idea of a red and silver coloured "Iron Crab" does kind of amuse me) Karl

Prawns are invertebrates. All fish are vertebrates. Prawns are closer to arachnids or insects in evolutionary terms than to fish. A shared environment doesn't have to indicate a close kinship. Look at people from Devon and then those people-like creatures that inhabit Cornwall!

Upper Crust have redeemed themselves by A) having the Hog Roast (and a decent selection) at Wimbledon today and B) sending me a £5 voucher when I complained about yesterday!
