40 years ago this week (well, tomorrow), Slaine made his 2000AD debut in Prog 330.

The use of a limited and subdued colour palate in the last few years of Hershey plays off big time at the end of this week's episode

I might get to that in a couple of years' time.
Meanwhile, I have just re-read the four part Anderson story in the Meg because I couldn't remember it well enough to enjoy the last part. That was pretty good. Felt like a story set in Mega City with PSI elements, as opposed to some Anderson stories that just head off completely into the wacky and lose touch with the tone of Dredd's world.

The Mega City Max special was alright. Ish. Probably a step up from the regened stuff, but really Demarco was the only strip that left me wanting to read more. £5 well spent? Hmm, no.
Conversely, in the 1983 Sci-Fi Special, Tharg gives Joko-Jargo a Rigellian Hotshot to the arse.

I really must get on with reading 2000AD. I'm going to be two years behind before I know it.
Mind you I've spent the last couple of days re-reading the last four megs, the Max special and the 83 Sci-Fi special. That's taken long enough.
I absolutely love the Johnny Red story. The art is amazing.
I subbed to the Battle mini series once I realised that isn't being stocked in Smiths. I've got the second and third issue of that to read yet. Bonus in subbing is that I got the awesome web exclusive cover to issue one to go with the regular cover version they sent me by accident.

The new Meg surprised me. I didn't know IDW did a Rogue Trooper series. Written by Brian Ruckley no less.

This week's Prog and Meg are stellar. The Battle / Action 'hatch, match & dispatch' approach. Does wonders!

The combo subscription, which is what I have, is £170. Just the prog at 50 x £3.60 is £180. So I'm basically getting the Meg for free.

It's awkward to get started but there's definitely something to be said for putting away £14 a month so when the annual subs payment comes it isn't such a hard pill to swallow. Better than the £21.40 a Meg and four progs costs now.
I suppose it would be even better value if I actually read the progs.

Could someone explain the surprise at the end of this week's Helium? And which issues the prior run(s) were in?
Dredd: I'd assumed all along that the thing Hershey had had been got from Judge Fear. Who do we know who likes poisons and would love to have killed a chief judge?

I sorted all the Meg floppies only a couple of weeks ago so I could bin all the ones that are purely reprint. Bizarrely, Helium was the only one I kept. I do love an Edginton/D'Israli story. I hooked it out at the weekend for a re-read.
I think I need to start reading the prog again otherwise I'll never get through the back issues. As we've got a jumping on point this week with stories I have read the last parts of I'll give it a go.

'could' bin. They're sat under a bed at the moment awaiting the chop. But as said, any with content in that hasn't appeared in 2000AD or the Meg have been kept. Anything else I've got in its original form.
