Bit disappointed in the quick wrap up to the Sylvia Plath story, thought that one had legs for a couple more issues. Still Jaegir's back this week which I enjoyed first time out.

Pat Mills saying there will be a new Ro-Busters series, I assume part of the ongoing ABC Warriors tale.
Sweet!

Case Files 23: Generally on the up. By the end of it we're just 10 progs away from The Pit, generally seen as one of the great landmarks. But Three Amigos..... oh dear oh dear oh dear. Poor concept, poor execution. Just not believable that Death would willingly team up with Dredd. Mean .... maybe but bringing Pa & Jr back just to make it happen? No.
Anyway The Pit next year, probably split over 24 & 25 and we get to the point where the Megazine goes monthly so we'll have more progs per issue and get a move on again.

So a little guess work then:
Case Files 24 will be 2000ad Progs 959 - 983 (24 issues inc the Cal Files and The Pit 1-13, the entire unsubtitled portion of the Pit) and Megs 3.04 & 3.05 (both of which have a 2nd Dredd strip behind 3 Amigos) and 3.08-3.16 (3.13 is another double)
Case Files 25 will be 2000ad Progs 984-1016 (32 issues rest of the Pit) and 3.17-3.25 (up to the end of Fading of the Light)

I can be suckered into things like that very easily, but I have every 2000AD & Megazine, and if that run is 60 volumes, that's £600 to buy what I already have. And another shelf to put them on. And it's a highlights collection and therefore incomplete. And I've got the Termight Dredd badge and I don't need a coffee cup. There brain, deal with it.
Mr Ayres sir, your books are itching to be straightened up to prevent the pages warping!

Or mine. At least not Smiths, and that's where the partwork trials usually appear.
So #1898 arrived this morning. The mission I set myself two months ago to get my reading up to date by #1900 is not going to happen. I'm still on Prog 2014. Which is the one before #1862.
I need a 30 hour day.

I'm about to begin a catch up run to get up to 1900, but I am current with the Meg. I think it's really strong at the moment. Wagner/Flint on Dredd is always a treat; I'm really quite enjoying Lawless; The Man from the Ministry has a very nice 50s sci-fi vibe to it, reminds me a little of Dare from Revolver; and Arthur Wyatt's movie-verse Dredd strip really captures the tone of the film. Given every other comic publisher has x-amount of parallel worlds going on I've no problem at all with a different take on Dredd.
Which brings me to a question. I have as yet not read any of the IDW Dredd books, are they any good?

What I've read is OK, but it's just missing that certain something.
How far behind are you on 2000AD?
Looking forward to 1900 this week, especially Block Judge by Wagner/Ezquerra :-D

There's just too much to read these days to fit the hours in the week. Going to try and do a prog a day. Not that that will happen.

Oh so start of the year!
They rolled the big names out for that, and indeed the Dredd strip is very good. But for my money the best other strip this year has been Jaegir which is in your future.
Missing Low Life. Phil needs some Dirty Frank and soon.

Yes indeed, I just went to pull the relevant prog from the pile and realised next up for me is Prog 2014. The one before 1862. I'm time travelling! It's last Christmas again! I wonder what I'll get?
And how the hell did I get this far behind. I'm usually one jump on point out, but this is a heck of a pile to go through.

Catch up in progress. #1862-#1873 complete. Titan was nice, Henry Flint is always a joy on Dredd and the way these days slow burning plots come round and continue gives the world some cohesion. Love the idea of the Enceladus outpost and the references to Insurrection. Keep expanding the world. It's amazing the way this strip is always interesting to read given how long it's been running. The tape worm story following that was less inspired, but that's the way it is with Dredd.
Reading 2000AD in blocks shows the patterns in the stories, so for the last few years January has always meant the next instalment of Strontium Dog. Not the traditional/classic Jonny Alpha, but still enjoyable none the less, even if that one was just a big fight.
ABC Warriors is a favourite of mine, but I have to say since the excellence of the last few books it does feel like it's getting dragged out now. Loved the last page though, but disappointed to find the return of Ro-Busters hasn't happened in the rest of the progs I've yet to read. Must be next January then? I think this is a strip I need to re-read from the start of the Volgan Wars stuff, when Clint Langley started, to take it all in again. I feel now I'm missing stuff I should be picking up on.
Ulysses Sweet... I have to say it's very, very rare that I give up entirely on a 2000AD strip, given what we pay for each issue I try at least to read it all, but I didn't get past part 4 of this. Rubbish.
Grey Area. I think Dan Abnett hit upon a lasting formula with this. It allows for a wide variety of interesting stories and I do like the characters. Always happy to read this one.

ABC Warriors has always been a personal favourite. It's writer proof, as I generally find it's some of Mills weakest work, with lots and lots of recycling of ideas. The assembling of forces to take down the Warriors in particular. Though I have to admit he has been doing more with the strip in recent years and filling in the holes in the story.
The Ro-Busters return is one I am greatly looking forward to.
Strontium Dog has been good, although bringing Johnny back from the dead and what has happened after has been a bit of a departure from what I liked most about SD. Still I hope this has been a clearing of the decks to start with a different focus.

Catch-up continues. #1874-#1887 complete. So that was Dredd: Mega City Confidential, Shooter's Night and Traumatown, all very typical of Dredd's post Chaos Day character and enjoyable to read. He really does feel like he's entering some kind of endgame at the moment but that's been going a while and I can't see it really happening. Liked Nick Percival's art on the last one, although the almost reveals of the face were unnecessary.
In fact I think if anything with this run, a weaker one than the previous set of stories, the art in general really shone while the storytelling wasn't as good. Outlier went in one ear and out the other largely unchallenged, Slaine is great and Simon Davis is brilliant with the art, but how many times does he have to rescue the girl? The giant fights were superb though. Sinister Dexter's ongoing attempt to reboot itself isn't really doing it for me, that series is part it now I think, and Jaegir just seems like another dead end attempt to milk something more out of the Rogue Trooper back story, which isn't really sufficiently interesting to warrant the continual revisiting it gets. Indigo Prime took an age to get anywhere, but was suitably impressive when it did - again the art was better than the narrative. Nice to see Grey Area trying to do something bigger. Throw in a couple of half decent 3Rillers and that's another 14 issues and £35 done with.
Next!

Catchup complete. #1888-1899 read, being Dredd: Klegg Hunter, Student Bodies, A Night in Sylvia Plath and Cascade. Four stories that show the depth and breadth of the Mega City world inside 12 issues - a great snapshot I think of what Judge Dredd is, and Cascade would also serve as a good intro story for someone unfamiliar with the title because of the way it uses Knight's questions to recap the structure. Really felt for both Sensitive Klegg and Lenny McTick and the return of staple favourites like Walter is always fun.
Sinister Dexter rumbles along too slowly. Its attempt to keep an overall plot arc in place, but keeping that in the distance while smaller stories play out along the route, is beginning to bore. Brass Sun, over my head, can do without this. Jaegir is becoming more relevant but still isn't doing it for me.
I really do like the widening of 2000AD beyond just science fiction, so with Slaine just leaving having replacements come in in the form of Aquilla and now Black Shuck - really good. Like them both. The God of War vibe in Aquilla is great and I would love to see more of the Beowulf inspired Black Shuck world.
And that'll be it for me until Prog 2015 and a catchup run of #1900-#1912 at Christmas. Not getting behind that far again but I don't want to go back to weekly reads and just keep forgetting the stories. Now then, Meg 353 arrived yesterday...
