It is rather honking. Too big for my tastes- and certainly too big for my bedroom! I can see why they used Fort Max as a comparison because he'll look gigantic next to any other TF. Fair play to them for their ambition, but I think the size will put some people off.
Also it'll be about $300 I suspect. This also puts me off.

Feels like they moved to far away from the original design in vehicle modes and possibly robot mode too. And due to its size I dont think it will ever be complex or interesting enough to justify whatever price tag it ends up with.

Giant Overlord? Do. Not. Want.
He needs not be any larger than an ultra. Anything larger than that for an individual who's not a giant (Such as Sludge, Metroplex, Trypticon, and Omega Supreme) is worthless.

So were Scorponok and Fort Max in the cartoon. Didn't make them any less stupid though ;P I get what you're saying, but gigantic leaders to me are idiotic. And I personally have no love for the japanese fiction. Still... Do. Not. Want.

I love my Titanium Soundwave, but yes the nappy is ridiculous.
Overlord is crazy big, too too big. The odd chatacter, like your Omegas and Devastators, need to giant, but if a character is too big it means it can't inertact with other characters.
And also it's silly money.

Just got an email from Robotkingdom saying they had to cancel my order because I used my US paypal account to pay for the item but asked it to be sent to my address in New Zealand, since Paypal no longer permit you to give a non-US address when sending money from a US account.
Also, I don't live in New Zealand nor did I ask the item to be sent there. I know it was just a mistake by the guy who sent me the "sorry we had to cancel your order" email, but it makes me hesitate before filling in a new order and paying from my UK Paypal account.

I love Headmasters. I'm content with my originals, but the price of them has shot up in the past few years. I can see why someone with a fondness for the series or the concept but who either isn't old enough to have bought any the first time or who came into TF after the price-hike would fancy these new releases. Brainstorm looks weird with a regular face, though. I can see another third-party company making a traditional head for him, along with his infamous briefcase from MTMTE -Nick

Theres something about the headmasters toys I'm not liking, are these Fans Project? because I generally dont like the look of their work. Chromedomes proportions feel completely wrong. The preview photos of the next few look just as bad too my eyes.

I have the Chromedome. I went ahead and bit, figuring Fans Project tends to be really good investments and if I didn't like it, or found I couldn't swing it after all, I could sell it and make a couple bucks. Plus the fact that it came with a big Toys for Tots donation makes Fans Project a real upstanding company (They already were, as they've done charity stuff in the past)
But... I'm not a chromedome fan. I always thought that compared to all the other masters, he was visually extremely bland in design, and colors, and when this was revealed to be Chromedome, I was extremely disappointing. On top of it, Toyworld's Hardhead looks just stunning, aside from the shade of green they used.
However, I gave the toy a chance. And I'm really glad I did. it's not the best thing they've ever done (I think Munitioner and Explorer are, currently. The Stunticons may change that) But he's not bad by a longshot. He has a unique and clever transformation. Some parts of him feel a bit brittle though, which is surprising for FP. However, even then there's no stress marks or anything that looks like it's about to break. The Nebulon (Stylor, right?) actually has a nice scale to him with Chromedome. The heads not oversized like the original toys, and he feels to be a truer human to TF scale in person mode. Also, I love his vehicle mode. I'm a huge fan of fictitious fantasy jets and cars, and the more those look like they could actually exist, then all the better. And unlike the real Chromedome toy, this one fits that well. My only real problem with with mode is they didn't give him good clearance in vehicle mode. His wheels needed to be bigger.
All that said, I can understand why people wouldn't like him. But I have to say this: I don't like headmaster toys. I don't like the gimmick. And I really had no love for Chromedome. But I really enjoy this toy. Sure, there are a lot better 3P toys out there, but there are also a lot worse. Though, I'm not trying to convince anyone they need to buy it though. I was a bit disappointed in the insecticons, I've been pleasantly surprised by this.
Though, I think Fans Project is falling behind. They're no longer the undisputed kings of the 3P, and their sense of style feels like it's become stagnant. Toyworld's Grindrod feels like he's an official genuine Generations 1.0 release. TFClub's Project Uranos feels like they're almost actual hasbro product. Maketoy's sculpts walk the same line that FP tries to walk (representing a copyrighted likeness without actually duplicating it, so staying in that legal and moral grey area), and creates sculpts that have a lot of personality to them. (Although, Maketoys made some armature mistakes with Giant that I don't think FP would have made)
FP hasn't moved passed City Commander, though. As amazing as City Commander was (There hadn't ever been anything done like it before), and as much as I like Cromedome here, he feels like he was made at the same time as City Commander. Put him with TFC's Airraid and Fireflight, or TW's Grindrod and he feels very dated.
I think FP peaked with Crossfire Colossus. Although the stunticons look amazing. So maybe they realized they were getting left behind, and stepped back up.
All that said, I'm in it for Brainwave and Weirdwolf, too. Those are two of my alltime favorite TFs, headmasters or not.
On a side note... I'm surprised no one's reeeally genuinely tried to fill out the female ranks. There have been a couple piss poor Arcees, and there have been a few females that are completely new designs that claim to be Arcee, but that's really about it. No one's attempted Minerva, Elita-1, Blackarachnia, or plenty of others.

Great insight into 3P Chromedome there, Crazy, thanks for that. And yes, good point about no female TFs.

I've seen Munitioner and Explorer all over the place. Being daft I was waiting for the other members to show up before considering getting them. The combined form looks fantastic. Do the two figures come with all the necessary combiner parts? I also agree with you about the female TFs. I'd definitely put a Universe-style voyager sized Elita-one on my "to buy" list. Pump out the rest of her Sunbow crew as deluxes (Chromia and Firestar) and basic or legend sized figures (Moonracer). Cybertronian modes. Earth modes. MLP-themed modes. I'll take whatever. Diversity is always good -Nick

Holy crap! Explorer and Munitioner have fairly shot up in price, haven't they?
Ah. There's another run coming out. $20 more than last time. That'll teach me to do my research sooner, I suppose. I remember seeing people trying to offload the pair for $80 at Botcons past.

I got the recolours at AA and really enjoyed them for the price I paid but I want to try the combined form so I'm contemplating buying the reissue Munitioner and Explorer, but with so much coming out this year, I don't know.
If Takaras ramping up of Masterpiece toys is an effort to head off 3rd party stuff then they are doing a good job. Also would justify many peoples argument that Takara and Hasbro should start making toys aimed at the adult fan base.
