Yeah, Munitioner and Explorer come with all the combiner parts for Colossus. And they look just as good with Energon Bruticus Maximus, as they do with the Classics Bruticus they were "made" for. If anything, I think they look better, since Brut Max is in G1 colors.

Is it too much to hope that the company doing the Stunticons release a repaint in G2 colours? Actually, a G2 flavoured Uranos and Hercules/Giant would be pretty sweet too- especially for those who didn't have the Fort-Max-reissue level of cash handy to drop on them the first time around. I mean, G2 repaints will have an established market if they want to get two uses out of the moulds. I don't know what they were thinking here.-Nick EDIT: Just found out Maketoys Giant was already done in yellow, so they're ahead of the game there. Their concept art showed the original green, Autobot white, yellow and ORANGE. Dare we dream?

Dream, baby. Yes, G2 repaints are obvious ways to get more out of third party figures. Makes sense.
Perseus does indeed look aweful.
I hope for a dark purple Quake Wave. The lighter coloured one somehow doesn't do it for me.

I seriously hope we do not get G2 repaints of any of them.
Because I could not resist. At all. And I do not want to have to spend that kind of money.
Incidently Nick, Yellow Giant came first. I think it was to distinguish themselves from the coincidental Hercules. Whatever the reason, because it was G2 Yellow (and the bad overscultping of Herc) is what swung me to Giant.
I'm getting the Uranos, and Stunticons. So... if a G2 version gets released of these guys, would anyone care for a straight up trade?

I am going to save-up for the Stunticons, I think, but I wont be getting anything else (the kids need new shoes), plus Uranos looks too large for my collecion.

What's Perseus acaully about? Is it based on any pre existing character? Or is it just a made up repaint not based in established fiction? If it's the latter, I can't imagine anyone buying it, with so much else going on in the exploded and exciting 3P world. Plus it looks rubbish. An orange version would have made more sense.

"Perseus" is just a shattered glass repaint.
One of the most idiotic elements of SG was the "rival colors" concept. Almost everyone ran around wearing the colors of their normal universe's "rival." I use rival loosely because it mostly makes no sense, and said characters rarely had anything to do with one another. For some reason they think Grimlock and Trypticon are rivals, so SG Grimlock had normal Trypticon's colors. For some reason they think Hotrod and Cyclonus are rivals, so Cyclonus had normal Hotrod's colors (Which made for one of the most hideous things ever. And not even in that it's so bad it's good like a lot of G2 or UK Actionmasters. SG Cyclonus is just plain ugly)
So, as such, SG Constructicons sported normal Protectobot colors.
I don't think SG is nearly as popular as the SG fans think it is. It's wildy popular with them, but I think they're an extremely vocal minority. I think most people either don't like it, or don't have an opinion about it, and just quietly ignore it.

They're suppose to be Protectobots colours?! Doesn't do anything for me. SG as a whole does nothing for me either. I find it all very dull and obvious. But each to their own, no harm in it, I just think G2 is more worthy of repaints. And I'm not even that interested in G2!

I'm desperate to see what the 3P Stunticons Motor Master is like! I hope he's a good size! Interesting to see what they're gonna do with him. Will he be the truck and trailer? Or just the truck? What will Menasor look like?!?!!!
I'm a big Menasor fan.

Honestly? I've been looking at the going rate for some of these sets on eBay, and anything that's no longer available in stores is instantly worth more than their original price. You could put the originals on eBay and probably come out with enough Paypal money to buy the new set and have some left over. My only concern about third party stuff is how much of it is coming out at once. I mean, two set of Predacons, the Throttlebots, Aerialbots and Stunticons are all coming out over the next six months, not counting all the individual figures like Quake Wave. I'm still considering continuing with the Throttlebots, but I'm also looking at one of the Predacon sets and I'd love to get Uranos and the Stunticons. If I stop buying Throttlebots I'm still looking at $200 a month plus postage (plus CUTA as they're all over the price limit for import tax) from the US or Hong Kong. If I wait they'll cost even more on the secondary market. Assuming that only a few thousand fans are responsible for the vast majority of the sales, I do wonder how much the market can bear. -Nick

If they wanted to, they just need to release some more 'classic' style characters engineered and looking nice and they would instantly destroy all these companies. They might not be interested though.

3P has deffinately exploded recently. And yes I've been thinking, "blimey, just how much money do people have?!". I certainly would like loads of the figures that are out soon, many or most seemingly being of excellent design quality. But I have to pick and chose what I get 'cos they're so expensive. I wonder really just how many fans buy 3P items? How much can the market take?
You also have to think, with so much 3P stuff comming out, Hasbro must be thinking that 3P will be taking sales away from them. Might they start trying to put a stop to it all? Could they put a stop to it?

I think a fair few 3Ps will disappear this year, it was supposed to be about filling gaps when they started, now there are multiple companies doing the same thing and prices have skyrocketed.
Takara are Hasbro in 2012/13 are releasing MP Prime, Starscream, Thundercracker, Red Alert, Sideswipe, Tigertrack, Soundwave and 5 cassettes, Prowl, Bluestreak and Smokescreen and thats only up till summer. We could see Soundblaster and so far completely unknown figures by the end of the year.
Okay most of the 3P stuff seems to combine even when it shouldn't but given a choice between a £60 3P small Stunticon/Aerialbot/Predacon/Throttlebot or a £60 including postage Voyager sized Masterpiece autobot car or leader class size Strike jet the official toys are getting my money more often than not.

Yeah, definitely agree that it's too much, too fast.
I miss the days when it'd be 6 months after a figure is revealed before the preorders. Then another six months before the release. Now with the stunticons, it's pretty much reveal, preorder, and release all within a month.
I'm kinda in over my head, ATM. When I started with the Aerialbots and Throttlebots, there was nothing else known that I'd want. So okay, that'd be tight but I could make it work. The new upsides iGear minibots were at the top end of reasonable, and they were spread out far enough apart that I could swing them. Then iGear raises their price. Then the FP headmasters (I can't leave Brainstorm and Weirdwolf alone) were announced. Then Toyworld's Hardhead, which will be amazing. And given it's near ultra size, it's not an unreasonable price. Then the MMC Predacons... which will come discounted if you preorder early, making it foolish to step away from that. Now what looks like FP's most promising ones, The Stunticons. And at actually a fairly reasonable price, given everything else on the market. Much better bargain than the iGear minibots.
If I had known about the predacons when the aerialbots started, I never would have gotten invested in them.
I miss the days when there was something that interested me only every couple years. And this wouldn't be so bad if they were all spread out. I mean, at least FP could have postponed the Stunticons until after the headmasters.

Right. Grind Rod was a resounding success, so armed with eBay money I'm looking to make another 3P purchase. After a lot of thought and youtube videos, I'm looking at these: Aurora, the next figure in the line from Grind Rod, naturally.War Hawk, aka Divebomb from the upcoming Predacon set. He looks spiffy, but the only review I've seen on Youtube featured a figure that was broken out of the box. I don't know if it's an isolated case or a common problem. Xovergen's Trailer Force, which looks bitchin' but again I don't know about the quality.Maketoys Giant, which looks great and gets good reviews but costs megabucks.FT's Quake Wave, because Shockwave.Hegemon, by the makers of Grind Rod.Anyone have any thoughts? Recommendations/warnings? -Nick

If you haven't already considered it after Crazy Jetty's review then I'd highly recommend Fansproject Function-X1 [Chromedome]. I am a big fan of Headmasters anyway, but the engineering on this is what makes it great. The transformation is very well thought out and I'm looking forward to the next figures in the line [Brainstorm and Weirdwolf on the way]. Negatives: not as big as I'd like, colours are off for Chromedome [especially the head], no ankle tilts [not a huge concern for me, but bothers some people, so worth mentioning]. Of the others you're looking at, I'm also interested in the Quakewave, but would prefer a darker more original Shockwave toy colours. And Giant looks very good. I got Hercules, but don't really like it, and would prefer Giant, but can't justify the expense right now. Also looking at War Hawk, but would like to see more of the Predacons from both parties working on them before deciding which to go for. Have ordered the Fansproject Breakdown too, as I like the look of it.

I now have pieces from Fansproject, Maketoys, iGear, TFClub, and Toyworld.
-FansProject is great, but IMO, they've fallen in a bit of a rut. Though the upcoming stunticons look to break that. But they generally have good quality. I recommend this company. -Maketoys are supossedly an offshoot of Fansproject, and they do have a lot in common. They're rookies, make some rookie mistakes, but I predict big things from them. Their Giant feels more like a true Classics Update, dispite not feeling quite as thought out as it should have been. I reccomend this company. -iGear does not impress me. But then, they're lograde bootleggers that never bothered to try to do anything truely original (Or as original as you can get when you ape someone else's IP) before their minibots. And their minibots are just barily on the acceptible side. Low quality (but not as low as I expected), and halfassed engineering. Do not recommend this company. -TFClub was actually a lot better than I expected. Hercules did not thrill me, but the aerialbots are pretty smashing. They're better quality than Hasbro's current Prime and FoC lines. But Wouldn't put them on the same level as Hasbro's best. They're fairly simple, but good plastic quality. I'm pleased enough. Cautiously recommend this company. -Toyworld, well... you have Grindrod. He's amazing. Have no reason to expect that Hardhead and the rest of the throttles won't be. Highly recommended.
One minor note: Mastermind Creations- Do not own anything of theirs yet, but I've only heard good things about them. They have the Hearts of Steel and the second Predacons (The ones that aren't just straight updates of the blocky originals).

Quake Wave is currently top if my list, if I can generate the cash. I've studied videos of him AT LENGTH, and although I'd have preferred a darker colour, in the videos the colour they've given him looks really nice, especally next to Optimus and Soundwave. And the design, styling and transformation look excellent. He really does look well done, MP standard. And it's Shockwave!
Hegemon Megatron looks great with classics. There's so much about him that's nice- the leg transformation, head/face sculpt. But his gun mode is a bit loose and unconvincing, and his upper body feels weak. So he's not the best 3P, but he's ok and looks excellent on display. Worth getting IMO.
Green Giant is MAGNIFICENT. Hercules has the extra bulk, but Giant is big enough, and the style and engineering of him I think is outstanding. The perfect Devastator upgrade! Natuarlly I keep mine as Devastator most of the time, but the individual characters are very good too, in either mode. He really is a great set. Highly recommended.
Mini-Warriors Hench and UFO, aka Brawn and Cosmos I've found to be well done and a lot of fun.
I also fancy Terminus Hexatron (Sixshot), and the Stunticons, but doubt I can stretch to them! They look very well done though. Hexatron is massive!
Predacon wise, to be honest, I've got myself confussed over which set belongs to which company!

Just read Crazy's last post- so it's Mastermind that are doing the less blocky Predacons? I preffer their design I think.

The video reviews I've seen of Hexatron put him as large as MP-10! Larger than City Commander, nearly as tall as Green Giant! Which, to be honest, even though the figure looks amazing, is too large for me.

I think he's too large in relation to other characters. I like (some may say it's an obsession) my figures to be all the 'correct' size relative to each other. In my mind's eye Sixshot would be about the same height as City Commander Ultra Magnus, or maybe a touch smaller. This figures towers about Magnus! He looks pretty outstanding though.
