Managed to grab this from Orbital before going away and read it twice on holiday. Loved it!
Flywheels, Misfire, Spinister, Krok... all Decepticons I'm thrilled to see get the spotlight, though I am nervous for their future. I'd love a spin-off mini detailing the continuing voyages of the Weak Anthropic Principle.
Only the last page didn't work for me, and that's largely because I forgot what IDW Grimlock looks like. I just turned to it and saw "mean-looking Autobot" and didn't register who it was until I read the next issue box. Which made it something of a deflated cliffhanger, but completely down to me, of course.

Those preview pencils for the annual look rather good - a nice kinetic scene there. As to the next issue I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will show up on Friday - it would be a nice little bonus on my day off. Even if it shows up on Saturday t'will be fine though - it'll be excellent long weekend reading either way.

Can't really give my opinions on #8. The comixology app version suffers from horrendous pixiliation on the lettering in guided view, as if a lower-res version has been used which impaired my enjoyment substantially. I've used the feedback form section to politely ask them to have a look at it!

Great issue again. Poor Flywheels. Good to see so many of them survive to continue their adventures (presumably over in RID) though.
Is Krok surviving despite what happened to his face (ugh!) and being shot several times in the chest a sly reference to his tech spec endurance of 10?

Been reading the recent trades over the last couple of weeks. MTMTE stands out by far - there is just so much going on that it really rewards rereading. I also feel that the characters emerge more strongly when you read the issues back to back; I had started to worry that there was some validity in the claims of some readers that the wisecracking of the characters (or their exaggerated natures) makes them all very similar, but that criticism doesn't stand. I do, though, think that the humour somewhat restricts the ability of James to vary the tone of the stories, and it might be nice to read some more obviously / straightforwardly reflective/ shocking / sad stories as we go forward. I also think the art is fantastic: yes, Nick's work has that little bit of something special, but Alex Milne is really doing a remarkably consistent job - and his designs of the Sparkeater are fantastic. Josh Perez is really without peer as far as modern TF colourists go.

No sign of MTMTE #8 here yet. I'm thinking maybe Mr Bax has taken a long summer holiday...
Edit: I was right. Honeymoon, actually. Fair play. Should get it later this week.

MTMTE #8 arrived today with RG1 #83.
Thoroughly enjoyed MTMTE. Whether or not I consider this series to be what I call a Transformers story, it's a tremendously entertaining and well-written story with some very likeable characters. Misfire in particular is just great.
Like Masterforce, MTMTE is sufficiently different in style, concept and setting from the Marvel TF story for me to just enjoy it as a completely unrelated work - definitely _not_ a variation on previous series. I'm with this for the long haul.

I like to think it's expanded the idea of what official Transformers fiction can be like, and even how the characters are allowed to behave and relate to others. I'm sadly, desperately in love, even if poor old Flywheels did kick the bucket as predicted

I honestly thing MTMTE is probably the best piece of TF Fiction released since the creation of the franchise. It's like it has something for everyone

Read ish 8 at the weekend - some fine, fine stuff there. I like the way that the story manages to make us sympathise with a bunch of bottom tier Decepticons like Misfire and his "friends" whilst still reminding us that these guys belonged to an army that was systematically "endangering species" around the galaxy.
There was something gloriously absurd about the Cybernaut as well - it boils down to a giant mecha piloting and even more giganticer mecha... That was always going to amuse me.
(The "Dinobot Month" tag on the cover amuses me too - yes, it is true that Grimlock is in this story but he is in many ways in it in the same way a blunt object is in a fight scene).
All told, a great issue. Some great characterisation - a good group of underdog protagionists and a few ominous hints about Skids and the arc-plot thrown in for good measure all work out to be a solid slice of good comics.

Just read the MTMTE annual.
Very, very good.
Also, one of the best endings to a Transformers story I think I've ever read, really didn't see that coming.
I bloody love James Roberts' characterisations and the Transformer this story starts and ends with is a fantastic example of that.
Wasn't sure about his approach to Rodimus or Drift to be honest, but everyone else is so good, I'm kinda happy to see where he takes them.
Probs the best comic book I've picked up this year.

Sounds damned good. Due to the slightly pricey digital version, for the first time in ages I am awaiting it's arrival in a physical form first.

As am I. When I saw it was printed in the squarebound prestige format and thus felt like a 'proper' Annual, I grabbed it rather than the comparitively poor value digital version. Not had time to read it properly as yet but I will tomorrow evening!

Beautiful writing throughout. Funny and heart-breaking, and wonderfully structured with an ending that really satisfied. I'm still gobsmacked by the fact that this is official Transformers fiction and have to pinch myself after finishing every issue.

I already had a physical copy of this on order, but when I heard that it is prestige format that brought a big grin to my face. I am eagerly looking forward to it landing through my letterbox in the next few days.

Enjoyed it a lot! Artwork was iffy in places, but I really like the bit with Guido's pages. Reminded me of reading the Primus stuff in Legacy of Unicron as a kid.

Very enjoyable, great character moments (and advancement) and the longer format was made good use of.
The art however (Guido Guidi retro-styled flashback aside, which was glorious) was at best functional, especially compared with what Milne and Roche have been doing. It was not helped by some slightly lazy colouring (which was also inconsistent - they couldn't seem to decide which characters had red legs from panel to panel).

While I found the art rougher than Roche or Milne, I thought it had clear storytelling, which is always the most important aspect of comic art, for me. Can't say I noticed any colouring problems.
Such a lovely package. Well worth getting a physical copy rather than digital. Pretty good value too: 40 pages of (dense) story (Rodimus and Magnus are fleshed out marvelously here and it has some circular storytelling, which I am always a fan of) and five pages of sketches along with the updated 'who's who'. A proper Annual! The first proper Annual Transformers has had for (gulp) 20 years!

I enjoyed the annual. While I agree the art in places was not as polished as Nick or Alex it was still easy to follow which is the main thing. Enjoyed James fleshing out the religion/mythology of the Transformers as well. The best of it no mention of the big U.
Loved the old school art by Guido for that segment.
