But I demand that if there is one next year that it was a 'This book belongs to...' page!

MTME Issue 9 came out.
Splendidly constructed story from James. The changing of narrators makes for a splendidly entertaining flashback led story. I must reread again tonight.
Hands down the most consistently enjoyable Transformers comic in years.

Got to agree. There's so much going on in every panel. I particularly enjoyed Orion Pax this issue - compared to the rather wet Prime we've had so far in Regeneration One it's nice to see him kick a little arse! I liked the sly little nod towards Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson's Transmetropolitan as well, with the "cheap and nasty body tourism" of the Relinquishment Clinics harkening back to the "Temping" movement in said comic.
In fact, special mention to the art this issue which was lovely and clean without sacrificing detail. The amount going on in the background of the flashback portions of the comic also reminded me of Darick Robertson's wonderful mise-en-scene (oo-err!) in Transmet.
If only this were a weekly. James's sanity be damned!

Issue 9 is absolutely marvellous. James pulls off the change of narrator so well. The framing stuff in the bar is glorious - especially the moaning by Ratchet and Drift about what each actually said back in the past.
Getting to see an "early period" Prowl as written by James Roberts is a bit of a treat as well - James has such an ear for that character that when it gets a chance to turn his hand to him it really does sing.
Oh and Orion Pax, on Cybertron He is The Law. What more need be said...
Great stuff. absolutely superb.

If there are annuals next year I want them to have banners sating "Secundus" at the bottom of the cover. Then the year afterwards they can have "Tertius"... :-)
Thoroughly enjoyed this. The artwork was perhaps not as polished as the RiD annual but the story was every bit as good. There was some lovely followup to the world-building in previous issues of the series, building up a theology that - whilst mirroring elements in the Hasbro product bible - feels true to this series. I liked the fact that we weren't presented with indisputable facts about Transformer origins here. Some characters believe, but others pretty much reject outright. There is room for us to accept Primus, Mortillus, Adaptus and the rest, or to take an Evolutionary Engineerist position without feeling we are rebelling against the text.
Likewise there is room for interpretation in whether in some moments of the story we have witnessed a miracle of Primal Grace or whether we've seen an incredible stroke of luck intervene on behalf of our hapless heroes. The story presents us with both interpretations and walks away letting us make up our own minds about which way we want to read it.
There are also some great comedy moments along the way to - some light and some somewhat black.
Great stuff. Great stuff indeed.

Think this issue suffers from being read on a phone- I continually felt there was stuff going on that I just couldn't see properly. I wasn't entirely convinced by the changing narrators. To me it spoilt the pacing a little and the ending seemed to have little relevance to the main story. On the plus side, I love all the effort that James puts into the creation of Cybertron's history and culture and James is also the only person who has written a decent heroic Prime for about 22 years... Actually, not true - I liked Furman's Prime at the start of idw, but he quickly became whiney prime again... Having corrected my hyperbole, I can honestly say that there are few TF scenarios that appeal more to me than getting to read more of Chaos Theory era Optimus written by JR.
A good read but not my favorite mtmte. That said, when translated to trade, I'm certain I'll regret my quibbles.

Hmmm, do I need to buy the MTMTE 2012 annual, referenced in v2, or will it be in v3?

Yes. Buy the annual, and then they'll make more of them. Hopefully with a more competent artist on board.
But I don't think it's essential for understanding the story at the moment.

The Annual is a must. That and the RID Annual are great reads.
Caught up on the latest regular issue. I now wait a month until the price drops on the digital editions.
It was rather good. I did laugh out loud at Rung's entrance.

The Annual is fantastic - well worth buying in its own right, and the fact that it is square-bound format makes it well worthwhile - gives it a bit of a "special" feel to it which makes it the sort of thing that is nice to have as a stand-alone artefact whether or not it shows up in one of the trades I think.

Have ordered both but expect the annual will be in trade 3 as one of the annual covers is being used to advertise the trade

Both annuals are fantastic and I am digital only for single issues of TF now, but these were picked up due to square bound goodness.

Didn't even realise this was out until last night, but snagged it in Orbital today. Yet more goodness: Loving Orion Pax. Loving the whole fleshing-out (pardon me!) of Cybertronian society. Loving Chromedome, Prowl and Rewind. Painfully curious about Red Alert...

MTMTE is one of only four comics ever to to literally make me laugh out loud, the other three being Journey Into Mystery, Incredible Hercules and Booster Gold. That puts it in good company as far as I'm concerned. The current issue is no exception, I want a Swerve one-shot or Spotlight, dammit!

Although I do always enjoy this series I have found the last few issuesto have lacked... something. Not sure what butsomething felt missing and less substantial. Pleased to say the latest issue was very much back on form.

That's it. I am done buying single issues of this on Comixology. The resolution is fucking dreadful on guided view when going through double page spreads, rendering the lettering very pixillated and at times a strain to read. As this is a text-rich series it's like trying to watch a TV show through a net curtain. I couldn't get any enjoyment out of the last two issues at all due to the shit quality of the scans.
Fuck that. They've lost my business.
I will follow the series in paper trades instead, where I can properly enjoy it!

I had also read #11 when it came out rather than wait for the price-drop as my Twitter feed was threatening massive spoilers.
To be honest I didn't get the ending at all as I don't remember SPOILER on the last page ever having been mentioned in this series (but maybe they have? I may not have been paying attention enough, I'll have to re-read earlier issues). It felt a bit like the end of Infiltration when the big last page reveal was OPTIMUS PRIME walking through a door, who hadn't appeared at all in the series. But then, to be perfectly honest I was in such a bad mood with all the low-res lettering that I wasn't getting much out of it at all. I'll have to wait until I can read the trade to form a proper opinion and read the text the way it's meant to be seen. Sorry, James!
Comixology can go fuck itself. I'm annoyed because I generally enjoy the series!

I think it is better than with Prime although SPOILER hasn't been particular explicit in the lead up to it. SPOILER has been mentioned with increasing frequency over at RiD so readers of both will gain an extra dimension to it there. For those that haven't the last three parts of MTMTE give a sufficiently tragic take on what happens. And for those of us more familiar with TF lore looking back at those three issues I for one can now see the little (very) subtle hints introduced about SPOILER. Think it works on a number of levels. But probably not if the format you are reading it in makes you mad!

I enjoyed the caper movie plot that took up a lot of this issue - it picked up the stylings and vital components of the caper movie dating right the way back to things like Topkapi and did a creditable job with them. Elements of the story about "The Institute" were quite good as well - there was something quite sinister about the implications of that/
SPOILER did feel like a bit of a non-sequiter though. He isn't really a player in this book (like Pax at the moment actually) so it felt a bit like something that is likely to have relevance over in RiD rather than here.
Did enjoy most of the issue though, I just think that this is the month for endings which make me go "hmmm".

I have to agree where the last page is concerned, for me it was the least interesting thing about the story (though I do wonder at the full implications) - I'm most enjoying the world-building that's going on here in the flashbacks.
The caper plot was excellent, and I had been wondering what Skids' part was going to be given his skill so that raised a smile.
I guessed the reveal regarding Red Alert, though clearly more is going on here than, um, ...

So quick question: Roller?
Is he meant to be his Godbomber incarnation, rather than piece of Prime.
Certainly looks a bit like him. Which leads to the question: Where is he now?
