That gold head will explode if put into the friction-slots on Silverbolt, I'm sure of it. Not sure if there's any way around it apart from gutting a Silverbolt to construct some sort of padded socket.

Oh god I hadn't even considered that, I meant I have to put Slingshot together. The first three all had the same wing broken off amongst other damage, the one that arrived today was just missing its tail section which I have a couple of but will have to face the stress or reattaching to the main body without doing damage. And crap I hadn't realised the head was gold too. Hmm, I have a plan brewing. Sell them as a set of five toys and run as soon as it's gone?

I have a little more faith in gold plastic than most but even I fear handling Slingshot too much. My idea is to use one of the junkers and lots of glue to make a solid leg form with a G1 Slingshot head instead of the gold one and leave good Slingshot as an extra figure.

Personally I think the best solution would be to use a G1 Slingshot head and display the leg backwards so you don't see it (and paint it gold).
Even if the head doesn't crack the moment you put it in, any movement would put pressure on it.
To be fair, I do love the fact that some Transformers will literally explode if you look at them funny, it adds a bit more excitement to life.

People talk about GPS a lot, but for that matter I've heard tales of some white plastic formulations prematurely brittling from UV exposure so it is a bit of a lottery to be honest.
I figure you never know which ones will be ok, and which ones won't over the long term.

Karl At this point I must re-iterate the terrible Christmas morning of 2008 when Universe Galvatron, Animated Sentinel Prime and Animated Swoop all shattered in my hands. In a row. Straight from packaging. In under 1 minute each time. None of them had GPS! That was a bad time! -Ralph

I've had one drillhorn go on me but that was easily fixed. Only recently did I realise how badly TM Megatron suffers from it. I have a graveyard of them from carboot sales right now.
So far though nothing I've bought new has gone.

Not all but most, also the neck ball joint and the at the pins that attach the dino arms chest sections. Pins seem to be the big danger. Its a shame the mould wasn't modified to the Armada version earlier it would have avoided some of the problems.

All the armada version does is change the plastic and add the Minicon ports isn't it?

All the armada version does is change the plastic and add the Minicon ports isn't it? Apparently there are also slight structural remolds too. Predacon does not have any of the issues TM Megs did

But isn't that down to the non GPSing plastic?

But isn't that down to the non GPSing plastic? Aha here we go. Differences: The tail claw is held in place with c-clips rather than a plastic rivet. The robot shoulderpads and flip-out VTOL engines are held on with plastic knobs rather than metal rivets. The screw holding the waist together is replaced by a bolt to stop it from inadvertantly over-tightening and putting stress on the waist joint. This was what contributed to the original self-destructing. The panels that surround the arms in dinosaur mode are thickened and supported with plastic braces.

How about the Metals version? I know it has different colour plastic, but did it have any structural remoulds, as it hasn't suffered as TM Megs does?

GPS info required on Machine Wars Sandstorm!
I picked up a MIB one in a red haze at AA. He's been out the box before and other than some minor dust looks fine. However, much of him looks either dull gold or brown ie the missile launchers/part of the rotor assembly. I am not sure whether to touch it in case it disintegrates!
Does this have gold plastic (and thus GPS) or is it the light in here?

AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH! This sentence fills me with fear: Micromaster Superion (initially a KB Toys exclusive Universe release in the USA, later also available at CVS Pharmacy stores; mass-retail Cybertron release in Europe), released in 2006, suffers from this as of 2010, particularly the peg that connects Ro-Tor to Superion's torso piece. How can GPS still exist in 2010?? ? ??!!!! -Ralph

I feel the fear.

If you ever want a laugh, try explaining GPS to a civillian.

Another one that may suffer from GPS is the Star Wars Millennium Falcon set. I've found a few times that the knee joints on Chewie have gone. I think it happens when they aren't fully pulled clear before trying to turn them (at least on the one I did), so not strictly the plastics fault but it seems to give way with less pressure than you would expect.

I've found silver plastic on smaller objects and certain areas fragile.
Hound's gun, inferno's missiles and Megatrons upper arm joints come to mind.

That's chromed stuff Ken, not actual silver plastic. Today's Joe A Day has a frightening sight: www.joeaday.com/astro-viper-1993/Yes I'd be scared if I owned that figure!
