Oh wow. Since it also seems to be (but not *always*, from the anecdotal evidence given in that thread) a consequence of vapours escaping the rubberised parts and having nowhere to disperse to when in enclosed areas, it seems that keeping toys in their boxes isn't always the best thing to do. So yes, we may have some victims here.
I now have even more incentive to dig all mine out from years' worth of storage.

Had my first brush with GPS a minute ago. Found a Thunderclash I forgot I'd bought yesterday, just transformed the cab and one of the clips holding the cab front pinged in half.
Rest of it looks solid though and it looks complete, apart from a couple of stickers. Even has his gun.

Fuck! GPS casualty! Armada Prime's smaller robot mode arm just snapped off at the elbow in mid transformation!
That was a shock. Not a crisis though, this one is very yellowed and is missing the missile. My own Armada Prime is the Takara one and that's safely in its box. Still. This one's knackered now.
