What does it cost G -> E out of interest? Depending on what time you are travelling anywhere between £12 and £21+ for a return. Plus then onwards to travel wherever you actually need to go by further train/bus/underground.

Yep, just in time for the first leg of my journey down to my family. Looks like Leg number one will be executed by bus or taxi from Falkirk to Edinburgh in the wee small hours of the morning.... Karl

As annoying as it can be, members of a union have the right to withhold their labour during a dispute so long as legal guidelines are followed.

It's doing it at New Year that pisses me off the most every year. Happy fucking New Year from the train companies.

It's not like the trains have got better to compensate. No, you'll be lucky if they come on time, if at all. You'll be bloody lucky if you get a seat! Pay £70 for your train ticket? Well sir, you get to stand like a sardine because the rail companies are SAVING MONEY by reducing the number of carriages. Because each trainline is pretty much a monopoly, you just have to grin and bear it, or, you know, not travel.

Until politicians routinely travel via public transport nothing will ever change.

Hope it's not actually going through the underground system... I can't imagine the air would be very breathable on the station platforms of those lines if it did. Martin

Discovered something about ticketing today. Apparently a lot of the cheap fares aren't actually available until between six and eight weeks before travel dates (depending on train company). It used to be that the rule was "the more in advance you book the cheaper the fares available will be". Apparently it is now "If you book too far in advance it will cost you more than if you book within a specific window in time".
\Sarcasm mode Thank you government, for legislating for another factor I have to consider when planning my travel. That certainly makes the whole process simpler and easier for me to work out.... /Sarcasm mode.
