Unicron Trilogy Threads Armada/Micron Legend
Energon/Superlink
Cybertron/Galaxy Force
Anyone got their Superbase Prime to hand and got batteries in it ? Mine can automatically TF Trailer to Base to Super Robot Legs to Base in that order. Can anyone's OP auto TF Legs to Base or Base to Trailer directly ?

If Tidal Wave wasn't on the list, I'd have said spring-loaded parts, but I got nothin'.

They've all been repainted.

No, that's not it. Though they have all been but the again so has Superbase Prime, Megatron, Hot Shot, Starscream etc and they're not on this list.
The thing in common sets them apart from the other toys that were made for Armada. Now I think of it most of the Armada Beasts could also go on this list but they were created for a previous toyline.

Not got a clue, not even stroking the beard is helping with this one.

If it wasn't for Unicron, I'd say a lack of knee articulation...

No, Cyclonus and Demolishor have knee articulation, too. Not repaints either, because Tidalwave never had an official repaint. They were all victoms of Bernie Madoff's ponsy scheme? EDIT: My bad. Tidalwave *did* have a redeco in Energon. I have absolutely no memory of it.

That's tricky, I'm not sure. I was thinking it might be something to do with how the minicons on those ones fit INSIDE the figures, but then Hoist wouldn't count.
Hrm.
They've all had repaints in other lines, but then Supercon Prime isn't on the list so that can't be it.
Most of those have multiple things for their Minicons to do, but then not all, and you could say that about lots of figures.
Is it placement of minicon ports on the arms/wrists? (No wait, Blurr doesn't, he has some strange dimples that only hold his launchers, but then they have ports on them...)

Oh wait, non-standard hands (no 5mm holes)
What do I win?

Well done. In a line bigging up Minicons and having several turn/combine into hand held weapons none of these toys can hold them!

Not repaints either, because Tidalwave never had an official repaint. Tidal Wave, like Scavenger & Sideways on that list, was repainted in Energon. Tidal Wave has spring loaded parts too: his missile launchers!

Oh wait, non-standard hands (no 5mm holes) What do I win? D'oh! Man, I been thinking too hard, and too deeply about this! Spent the last hour going over their wiki entries trying to find links. Was onto the "They all got up/down graded into completely different molds?" until I got to Blurr. And even he sorta can fall into that with the fairly heavy retool he got in Cybertron. Then I started thinking "Maybe they all had the same designer? And you know, until about '08, I would have probably figured it out. Until the movie line, Hasbro had been extremely anal about everyone having the 5mm fists. Now, they don't feel it nessisary to make sure everyone is cross compatable, so it doesn't stand out as much as it did by the time Classics began.

I have fond memories of Sideways and his tiny girly fists.
Man, was it really so long ago they all came out? It really does feel like yesterday.

Armada is probably the turning point to 5mm fist holes. Larger toys had had them for some time but deluxe size figures had varying standards, usually around 4mm, and basics were 2mm.
To this day I think it's one of the more stupid things Armada did not making every toy have 5mm fists. I mean Unicron.... woo for finger articulation but he's one of the few toys (Superbase Op and Takara Hot Shot) that have light up fists for the Star Sabre. How hard would it have been to mold a Peg hole into the top of the hand on the joint?
Then there's the gear gimmick which should have been on more toys (Definitely Hoist, probably Overload)
But yeah 5mm peg holes. Classics Rodimus really needs them too!

I agree on the gears, though I'm sure it was 100% a cost thing - I think Hoist was all but confirmed that he would have had gears, and they were removed at a late stage. I know he has a gear socket on the arm in the artwork, and it has some vestigial parts on the inside of the arm (or at least, it can be engineered to fit gears in, I can't remember what was actually in there)

It would still look teeny tiny! It would look like a small knife or dagger, and with his articulation you might be able to pull off a knife-fighter's grip with it. (I like the mental image of Unicron pulling a shiv on Primus, it is just the right kind of un-epic dirty trick that seems appropriate for the God of Chaos to pull on the champion of the Gods of Light) Karl

But yeah 5mm peg holes. Classics Rodimus really needs them too! Wait... What size ARE the peg holes in his hands then? 4mm (ish - early ones are slightly smaller and can't hold Firearm) He can hold original Hot Rod's weapons but not Targetmaster Hotrod's gun, any PCC Minicons or any 5mm weapon. Ditto the bonnet hole hence the remold to a peg for United Rodimus. Classics Mirage's hands aren't 5mm either but you're less likely to want him to hold anything else.

To this day, I personally feel the single stupidest thing Hasbro has done, is to do away with the universal weapon system of 5mm pegs, all together. Everyone being able to use everyone else's weapons, and built upon with "generic" weapons (Minicon weapons and energon weapons) was the single greatest concept to come out of the entire Unicron Trilogy.

Now I want a United Rodimus, as well as to drill into my surprisingly valuable Classics one. <_< Maybe the Battle for Cybertron version...

I don't think there's enough surrounding plastic to drill hand or engine on Rodimus

I don't have any of mine handy, but I'm fairly sure you could just about fudge the hands. The engine, less so.

It's at the back of my mind that there was, but I can't remember for the life of me!

I don't have any of mine handy, but I'm fairly sure you could just about fudge the hands. The engine, less so. I've just looked at the engine and was surprised to find there was no peg hole at all, I could have sworn there was! The only Minicon you can mount on the United one is that engine PCC one: there's no hole in the peg on Rodimus and Pinpointer(?) is the only Minicon with no thin peg in the centre of his socket. The hands on will grab the thinner bottom part of the Chopster Minicon allowing him to hold an exe. Now I think about it, wasn't there supposed to be some sort of Star Saber functionality with Unicron? It's at the back of my mind that there was, but I can't remember for the life of me! It can fire the missile in his chest using the post on his back, and is shown on the instructions. But any Minicon can!

For some reason I had it in my head it was something to do with the longer sword handle. Frankly even coughing set off my Unicron's missile, didn't even need a minicon!

I went to bounce this thread for another reason and spotted this post 5mm peg hole on the top of the joint between hand and index finger. Woulld look like he's holding it. It would still look teeny tiny! This is just how Combiner Wars have done it! I'm feeling rather pleased for predicting this :-)
