I get them direct from BF now. When you buy a CD you also get a download copy which you can download from your account page an infinite number of times it would seem. That way if the CD is jiggered I can still get another legit copy. I would switch to digital only (because if my computer/MP3 player is jiggered I can just download it again) but alas you don't get a PDF of the booklet (I like to know who made it) and the price difference is very little anyway.

Just got the BF play 'Master' through the post, I'll be cracking that open this evening!
EDIT: And a big box just arrived at the office with 11 more, including Jubilee, which I've been after for a while. Choices choices!

I listened to Jubilee and Master last night.
Jubilee was absolutely, mind-numbingly brilliant. Master was also very good, apart from some of the explanations at the end which I felt lessened some of the impact. Geoffrey Beevers was a revelation as the Master though!
Here are the others I still have to listen to, any suggestions on which I should do next?
Phantasmagoria Project Twilight Bloodtide The Eye of the Scorpion Project Lazerus The Harvest Catch 1782 The Nightmare Fair Leviathan Paradise 5

Then you will want to listen to Project: Lazarus. Then you will be forced to buy Project: Destiny. This I command.

New issue of The Finished Product fanzine out: bigfinish.com/news/The-Finished-Product-issue-6In other news, I picked up the 11th Doc Sonic Screwdriver in the Sainsburys sale last week. Great toy. I am confused by what all the moaning about it online is. By contrast, I gave away my 9th Doc one as it was not that great. -Ralph

Plonked down £56 for 14 more Big Finish cds including postage! I know I really shouldn't, especially as it is getting close to Christmas, but I couldn't resist such a bargainous price!

I renewed my 6-month subs for the main range and Companion Chronicles ranges, having been impressed by the return of consistent quality to the audios and the customer service is top-notch. -Ralph

The judgement of Burns:
3 Whispers of Terror Not bad. 4 The Land of the Dead Enjoyable tosh. 12 The Fires of Vulcan Very good. 15 The Mutant Phase MUTAAAAAAAAANT PHAAAAAAAAAAAASE. Great tosh. 16 Storm Warning Very good. 17 Sword of Orion OK in a 'listen once' way. 18 The Stones of Venice Alright. 19 Minuet in Hell Oh my no. 21 Dust Breeding Geoffrey Beevers is excellent, otherwise pants. 28 Invaders from Mars Decent hokum. 29 The Chimes of Midnight Outstanding. 30 Seasons of Fear Brilliant. 31 Embrace the Darkness Sadly under-rated, but good. Stonking sound design. 32 The Time of the Daleks Unusually flat sound design, dull.

All my American friends have told me Minuet in Hell is terrible due to the accents, it makes me more interested in listening to it!

All my American friends have told me Minuet in Hell is terrible due to the accents, it makes me more interested in listening to it! I would say that they are half right. It is terrible, but it is not the accents (however... interesting... they are) which are the root cause of that. Minuet in Hell manages to come by terribleness without any assistance from that front. Embrace the Darkness though is a great story I think. In a strange moment of synchronicity I have taken out a six month subscription to the main Who range myself this lunchtime. The main range has very much recaptured my interest recently. I am considering a Companion Chronicles subscription as well - a bit of a different animal in format but they also seem to be doing some good stuff. Karl

I fully predict that once the Kaptain samples the Companion Chronicles CD's I gave him that he too will fall under their spell. I paid them no heed for long enough thinking they were just basic talking books (which I could not see the point of when full-cast audios were available) and thought it was just more of the companion fetishing that was doing the rounds in DW spin-off media. Then DWM had a freebie and I thought it was surprisingly good so I bought the Ian Chesterton one and was hooked. The advertising of them had failed to communicate that they had a full sound design just like a full-cast audio and were proper dramas.

Hmm, really? That's the reason I've been staying away from them, to be honest. Tell me more. The CC's are usually in 1st person recounting an adventure with a guest voice so sometimes switching to conversations. Sound design exactly same as full cast drama. The First Doctor ones are superb. -Ralph

I predict within 5 minutes of the Kaptain hearing the return of Ian Chestertron that he will be hooked. This I command. In other news, BF prices will stay the same after the VAT increase, which is nice: www.bigfinish.com/news/VAT-Rise-and-New-Pre-OrdersThe other night, I listed to Home Truths, in which Sara Kingdom returns. Fecking brilliant. -Ralph

I have now listened to two of the Companion Chronicles CD's.
I started, as instructed, with the Ian Chesterton-centric, William Russell-narrated, The Transit of Venus. My but that was good stuff. It felt tonally appropriate to that era of Doctor Who, with an interesting story which had a nice sense of mystery to it (and a clever explanation that made complete sense in context) and William Russell is genuinely well-suited to doing that kind of work.
The second one I tried was Frostfire, with Maureen O'Brien. Thoroughly entertaining stuff. Another very atmospheric tale - especially considering it was pretty cold around here this afternoon - which really felt like it belonged to its era. The way they have used the format for both these stories - presenting them as not just an audiobook but as a story actively being told by the character in question (a subtle but important distinction) struck me as quite clever. It also gave those two a distinct identity of their own - Ian being Ian and Vicki being Vicki it isn't quite the same experience being told a tale by them. The sound design, as Ralph says is also very good.
I can see me picking up a subscription to these in due course (probably next month though, seeing as I have just paid for a subscription to the main Doctor Who range) just as predicted.....

It's a Dalek invasion! My CDs from eBay and DVDs from Amazon just arrived together. Smith and Gillan are on Steve Wright in the Afternoon today. My Big Finish cds arrived today too! Yay! It did result in much moaning from my co-workers about how much I'd been spending recently. Which is true, but still!

But it's a freebie so not too fussed personally on running time.

Hmmm, this month's DW audio subscription is fooked up. It's been put up as a Quicktime file rather than mp3. Email to Big Finish I think. They're usually pretty good at sorting problems.
