The vinyl soundtrack of THE FIVE DOCTORS is currently on. Sounds fab and the sleeve design is lovely: one of the nicest bits of design I have seen on a bit of DW merchandise in many a year.
LP 1 is the original television score. LP 2 is the special edition score!
I am enjoying watching the sign of Rassilon spin round and round...

Next BF vinyl is an Asda exlusive (and only 1000 copies) so a double FFS. May 24th. I don't know of any Asda's who sell vinyl. I may need to solicit help to get this one! -Ralph I was passing my local tonight so dropped in. Their media department does sell vinyl, so I asked about the Who record. The customer service lady phoned someone deep in the bowls of the shop and had a frustrated conversation involving the phrase 'chocolate teapot'. I learned that they (generally or just this shop I don't know) won't know until the delivery on Thursday night whether they have been picked to be one of the selected shops to stock the record. She said if they have it, it will go on sale at 10am Friday. I asked about reserving one as I'll be at work at that time and she gave me a secret phone number to ring and said, "ring us Friday morning at 8am, we'll know by then. If we get them in we'll reserve one for you until the end of the day." So - if you're still in need of this, Ralph, I'll ring on Friday morning. If they have one it sounds like I might be able to get it on the way home from work.

There's 180 stores on that list. That's around five records per store. This is a really shitty way to release a record. The BF article about it plays on the rarity and makes it sound like getting one would be a fluke. Why do that? It's crap.
I can try, chum. I have the number to ring so I'll give it a go. There is another Asda on that list I can get to, but it'll depend on when I can get away from school and how fast I need to get to the other one.

Finally after three calls, one copy reserved to pick up later. They said they had received two, so that only leaves one to go on sale! Thin on the ground these things.

Mission accomplished. One record for Ralph: The white sticker is just on the cellophane. It's where they taped my name to it to reserve it.

I see the BF Marketing guy did another obnoxious live stream about him getting the record himself. Five times now. BF are generally pretty good with publicity but they need to stop this. Every time it just winds up people who go out to get these records but can't get them due to the low numbers. It doesn't look good to see an employee go into a shop and get a free one!

I just had a look at that and the comments in the FB feed. I'm confused why BF think this is good publicity. I wonder if it's to do with the sales of the vinyls they have on general release. If they're low, and people know they can pick them up any time, perhaps BF are thinking if they artificially create a rarity value for vinyls they can shift more of them in a quicker time frame. It just seems daft to make a fuss about releasing a record that almost no one can buy.
The approach they should take is a time limited order window, so everyone who wants one has the chance to, and then they press as many as needed. In the case of this record I just see it being publicity for the new David Tennant release. One story out of a set of three isn't so much an exciting exclusive, more a promo designed to get the word out. So BF probably don't care that people are frustrated about not being able to get it, just happy people are talking about it.

I imagine a big part is down to the stores stocking it wanting an exciting exclusive but not something they'd be left with loads of

Yeah, but if the guy I that video said he had got one and there was one left, it sounds like lots of these Asdas had two copies in. Two is a stupid number. If I hadn't gone and politely enquired about how to get one, I'd never have got that. Not least because they were due to go on sale at a point when most people are at work. There are 17 on eBay now, and the cheapest BIN is £40 - this was a record that cost £15. Everything about the way BF do this is unfair to their loyal fanbase and a cheap cash in for scalpers.

Both those versions look absolutely gorgeous. I'm so glad I'm not into vinyl. For a start I'd have had the Hitch Hikers discs.

Don't remind me. I'm pondering a hat-trick there: bonus soundtrack, Zardoz and now perhaps the last book. Need to clear the decks.
