I completely understand wanting to make them simpler, but my god those are ugly, cheap looking things. Surely if you are going simpler it makes it EASIER to make the figures look good, not strangely proportioned weird McDonalds toys.

Oh dear, eliminating knees and elbow joints doesn't make them easier just cheaper. Okay I suppose not having to straighten arms and legs before transforming makes it easier, but come on thats not what anyone was complaining about when they said they were to complex. As folk used to see on The Internet circa five years ago: 'quoted for truth'. These toys look cheap and nasty rather than simple. I love simple toys. I prefer simple toys. These just look like cheap crap. -Ralph

Yay, a line I don' want anything from, which means I can ignore it's existence and get back to buying some g1 and 3rd party stuff. With you all the way! I've not really been a fan of any of the Bayformers with their elongated monkey arms and undefinable faces but this is a step in the direction of financial failure. They already have Rescue Bots, Botshots and a bunch of other simpler toys to pander to that particular crowd (who couldn't care if it was a movie tie-in anyway). Disappointed but not surprised. EDIT: I'm much warmer to the Voyagers. My money's on Hound getting repainted as Roadbuster though. But I find the 'Evasion Mode' Optimus Prime a bit offensive, oddly. I think I was happy that someone was taking my childhood memories and pulling them apart because they left the originals well alone. This Evasion thing feels like some sort of virus infecting my G1 nostalgia... EDIT again: Just seen the new Roadbuster on the toy fair thread.

Just seen what the dinosaur ones look like. Nothing against the toys themselves, but I was looking forward to seeing the Dinobots from Transformers in live action. Guess I should have known better... Again.

The leaderclass grimlock is horrible, with that weirdly elongated torso. But I absolutely love the dinobots! All of them (except that one). Even the ones from the kiddie line. This line is going to break my "I have every dinobot, ever!" Collection, though.
The two-headed pterosaur looks ridiculous though.

Hmm. Another set of movie toys which evoke a general "eh, whatever" from me. It isn't even so much that I dislike the toys, they just don't matter to me. I think my brain has just filed the live-action movie stuff under "not my problem", except insofar as I have to explain to people occasionally that the Transformers I like is something other than that and that it was around before it. I've been pondering this the last couple of days and it really does feel now like the movie stuff is some other toyline which I don't collect.

The return of the Energon dinobots! Never could get them back in the day. Only saw them once (in packaging) and that was at a convention.
I may have to buy these reissues. Combining Dinobots! Just like...THE BEAST!

I dunno, I got the Energon Grimlock and Swoop two-pack back in the day, and I've actually got something of a soft spot for that Grimlock. Sure, he's by no means the best Grimlock mold ever, but there's something about him that I like. I think the fact that he's too short and has claws on his arms (yes I know) puts me in mind of Wolverine - and I like the idea of a short, angry Grimlock. Dunno why - the idea just tickles me.
Swoop, on the other hand, is terrible. And the combined form is pretty laughable - but not without an element of fun. But that's just me.
That said, this is not an incentive to buy the Grimlock two-pack. At all. I might like the Energon mold, but I've already got it. And the only movie Grimlocks I want are the Chomp and Stomp and the Construct-Bots versions. If it had come with a G1 Grimlock I might have been interested, but I guess they don't have that mold any more...

I have never seen that GI Joe pack before; would have been tempted for the reissue Rockslide (it looks better than the new one).
I guess Energon is the oldest G1-ish Grimlock they still have a mould for, and one with which the movie toy can only contrast favourably. Considering that the packaging says "1984" they would have struggled to find one for that year anyway...
I'm really curious how much it costs to reverse engineer a mould as Hasrbo / Takara apparently don't think it's worth it even for Grimlock, who would surely be one of the most popular reissues ever.

I expect the Swoop to be done in a 2 pack too - but could they do some more 1984/2014 sets? I know Grimlock Swoop where hard to find but this lets people pick up these badly made toys. At least they shouldn't be priced like Cybertron Starscream.
I think a RM Optimus could be done with Movie Prime. Generations Hound with Movie Hound?

Apart from the Grimlock 2 pack [why they didn't use Universe Grimlock ? ? ?] what other 2 packs could we have to tie in with the Movie 4 sets?

I dont think a G1 reissue is financially feasible nor would it appeal to kids. Reissues of small TFs like Prowl were absurdly expensive. Grimlock was almost twice their size, and probably push $40-$50 by himself, without a limited run of a modern voyager packed in. Also, they've never used a G1 mold in these sets before. Don't know why not starting now seems to be such a shock to the fandom. (This is hardly the first place I've seen mention of this) It's more surprising they didn't use the Classics mold.
And I don't care what anyone says, G1 Grimlock sucks as a toy, when compared to something modern, like energon Grimlock, who has full articulation AND a combining ability with Swoop, who's also getting a similar release. G1 Grimlock may appeal more to collectors, but it's a fairly static toy with circumstantial articulation and such an archaic representation of a dinosaur, most kids wouldn't recognize it. E-Grimlock is a fun TOY, and that's what most adult collectors who bash it never seem to realize.

I never found Energon Grimlock to be particularly more fun than the likes of Classic Grimlock personally, just oddly proportioned.
Strange combination, but will be interesting to see what combos they use for other characters as we know original toys are so unlikely.

Well, i didn't really compare enegon and classics grimmys. Just energon and g1. If it were between energon and classics, I'd be classics all the way, both as a kid and now. Better artic, and best alt mode any grimlock toy has ever had, until the movie.

I think it's a bit subjective as to what qualifies as making a toy "suck", I can't speak for everyone but in 1985 I and my fellow 6/7 year old friends rather enjoyed playing with the Dinobots we had between us, in fact they were largely the favourites.
At that age articulation (which is something older fans appreciate far more than kids) was no concern as we had fun transforming them back and forth, waving them around and bashing them together, and I don't think any of us would have cared that our transforming alien robot dinosaur did not have scientifically accurate proportions had we known it.
Reissues generally aren't targeted at children anyway; Hasbro still maintains a certain level of squeamishness about fandom that precludes them producing something explicitly marketed at adults so they still need to consider how things would sell to kids, but Takara-Tomy have no such qualms and would be the ones most likely to produce them.
