Heh.
"If I'm not happy, no-ones happy!"
That rather amuses me - a distillation of the essence of Batman, seived through the mesh of Scott Kurtz's mind.
Excellent stuff.

Probably the funniest thing he's done in a while. PvP just seems to roll along, it's entertaining and all but lacks some of the bite it used to have. I think he needs to try his hand at something else for a while to sharpen the wit again.

Anything by Grant Morrison is worth picking up. For the record though, Batman doesn't die in Batman RIP, DC decided to overhype it. As a story on its own merits, it is fantastic, but you should probably pick up 'Batman and Son' and 'The Black Glove' first (I think those are the only trades before that one) He dies in Final Crisis

I have the paperback of the Death of Robin - although, I haven't read it in a long time, but from what I recall, it wasn't the "real" (aka original) Robin, but some young bloke that Bruce Wayne took on after the "original" took a vacation from his job.
I also remember when, some years ago, there was huge hype over Superman dying (and of course, he didn't).
In any event - I guess these franchises that have been around for 50 plus years can afford to pull this kind of thing once every century.

The robin that died was Jason Todd, and he had been the proper robin for a good few years at that point. The original Robin never went back to the role and became Nightwing.
Recently Jason Todd came back to life because uh, someone punched a magic wall.
Superman was never meant to die perminantly, it was a planned event comic from start to end. It is worth picking up The Return Of Superman trade, it is actually rather good.

I was really into JMS's Spidey run, but stopped because of Brand New Day. I have heard it has got good again since though.
It just... well, really didn't need the whole magic mojo thing to shake it up.

Well, isn't that convenient - to die at the ass end of the great 1980s and then come back to life just in time to be young and camp in 2009? Only in the world of comic books do you have to qualify "death" as being "permanent" or NOT Pete

I enjoyed the Batman RIP storyline, but wished that it had a better artist at the helm than Tony Daniel. We were absolutely spoiled when J.H. Williams III did that three parter. If only he had been on the entire run of it.
Final Crisis didn't read well as a periodical but I sat down and read it all in one go and found it much more satisfying.

Apparently Morrison asked that no-one use the new Gods at all and Final Crisis was written as the reader coming straight into the aftermath of a mysterious god war. So of course DC commission a huge boring series to spell everything out which finishes with Darkseid fighting Jimmy Olsen

I read one or two issues of Countdown - god it was awful. Andy It was worse than that. A combination of barely anything happening, the use of unlikable characters (hi Donna Troy), ridiculous Xtreme fan characters (hi Forerunner), character murdering (hi Mary Marvel) and not matching up to Final Crisis at all, which had already been written when Countdown was in the development stages! Paul Dini was touted as lead writer but he barely did anything apart from a vague outline. However when he did do something, his issues were ones like the Superman Prime / Mr Myplitznik torture porn issue (yes really)

Wow, his work on Detective Comics, aside from the woeful Heart of Hush was decent enough. Good done in one Batman tales, the likes of which we haven't seen since Wagner, Grant and Breyfogle's tenure on 'Tec.

Ah Planetary, looks like the last issue will drop this year!!!
Huzzah, I can finally look forward to the last hardcover getting released.

Thanks Andy.
I've just read up Batman and the major events of DC comics on Wikipedia, it all seems so deep and complicated, I don't think it helps there not being many pictures on there for reference.
