Who knows, there may be even more Wolverine comics to tie in with next year's Wolverine movie! Because fuck knows, there just aren't enough Wolverine titles.

Well the Magazine is based around the new cartoon and there is a movie coming out, so I guess it isn't totally out of nowhere. Just trying to grab as much cash as possible.

True. There just aren't enough Wolverine comics coming out to cash in, though. 6 monthly titles, plus 1-shots, minis and appearances in other X-Men team books aren't enough! I become scared and confused if I visit my comic shop and there is not a new Wolverine related comic out.

The first Wolverine solo book was rarely any good. Why publish more ?

Picked this week's bundle up.
Dark Reign: New Nation This is the Promo book for five series/one shots coming out of Secret Invasion. I'd have liked to have read something for Tunderbolts/Dark Avengers but no such luck. The Secret warriors one was good - Fury reminiscing about Cap. War Machine & Agents of Atlas had the first few pages printed in Dark Reign last week. Skrull Kill Crew is a silly idea anyway and the New Avenger Reunion was so so which is a shame as it's the only one of the five I was intending to buy. Let Clint & Bobbi have a bit of peace and don't muck em about !
Avengers: The Initiative #19 Secret Invasion killed my interest in this. Up before the firing squad to make room for the price hike.
Mighty Avengers #20 Lots of full page flashbacks telling Hank what happened while he was gone. Read it before. Framed by some stuff at the funeral directors and the funeral itself featuring Thor and having Clint argue with Norman.
The thing that winds me up is the Wasp got so little screen time in Mighty, and when she did wasn't written nearly as well as Stern & Byrne wrote her in the 80s. The real Wasp is long dead
X-Factor #38 Artist change 5 pages in and the replacement is nowhere near as good a Stroman. Art looks plain and nasty reminding me of the bad old days of fill in art.
X-Men: Legacy #219 Now recently Legacy has been ticking the boxes and Uncanny has been a let down. Things are reversed this week. Didn't like Legacy at all as it serves to confirm Juggernaut/Cain's fall from grace. I like reading redemption in my comics, I liked Magneto in UXM c190-210, I liked the old Thunderbolts and I definitely liked what Austin did with Cain. Say hat you like about Austen but he did work with Cain redeeming him and that was continued by Claremont in Excalibur. All down the tubes.
Uncanny X-Men #505 This worked for me. Referances to what X-Force are up to and how the other X-Men are out the loop. Pin pointing where Emma decides to throw her lot in with Norman. But most (best) of all: Maddison Jeffries ! Dropped in Alpha Flight to bring back mac, hideously abused by first Segal in Alpha Flight II and then used to create Mutant Death Camps in Weapon-X he's been off the grid for a long time. It's good to see him again, looks like they want to sort him out and hopefully that means Box isn't far behind ! Did you know three of Alpha Flight's mutants are now with the X-Men in San Fransisco (Jeffries, Aurora & Northstar)
Not read Ex-Machina 40 as I''ve still not read 39 - it's in the post with Thor: God-Sized #1 - comments on all 3 to follow

Ex Machina 39 First we have the conclusion to the odd copycat girl story. Ominous ending with Kremlin...
Ex Machina 40 Nice issue showing the creators of the comic and revealing who got to to do Mitch's biography in comic form in that universe.
Thor God Size 1 More Fraction Thor goodness - get the previous threee specials and Thor Secret Invasion too for more Fraction Thor - and a bonus Simonson reprint. Big issue for the cost ($4)

I just have to share with you my immense enjoyment of The Ultimates and Ultimates 2. This new, updated, reimagining of the Marvel Avengers is brilliantly writen, fantatsically drawn, and doesn't hold it's punches. Grand Theft America in particular had me on the edge of my seat. Great characterisation going on here. Loadsa voilence! Very well put together graphic novels these.

New Avengers #48 so..... Essentially this is all about reorganising the team and looking for the baby. We know Iron Fist is off. Last page is a bit interesting, I'm torn between out of character or do anything for his daughter..... X-Force #10 Usual fun. Gonna try and stick to trades with this. Avengers: The Initiative #20 Slott's off to Mighty Avengers so I'm taking my leave of this, it rather lost me the last few months. They finally reveal who Mutant Zero is with some nice last minute redirection. I thought it was the Scarlet Witch, mainly based on her being in Mighty along with a couple of other Avengers Initiative characters. I'm not that familiar with who it turns out to be. Nice ending trying to hook people into staying.... Secret Invasion: Requiem #1 What Hank & Jocasta do next. Two reprints with a new framing sequence that introduces Hank's new id. Interesting footnote at the end possibly setting up Slott's intentions for Mighty. Captain America #45 Another I'm going back to trades only for but this is a great issue, revealing what Bartoc was after. And boy is it interesting. I can see why the guest star in the next few issues is there but it'll be Juneish before I read it.

Immortal Iron Fist #21 Iron Fist in space in the future. Superb. But I'm going to try to keep this just in trades from now on to save money
X-Men: Manifest Destiny 4 of 5 Decent Iceman again, didn't know who the New X-Man was in the second tale so didn't care - interestingly they fail to identify who she's talking with, sloppy work IMO you might well get a first time reader looking at this and not having a clue. The Nightcrawler tale was good prefiguring an up & coming character development that will stick fo about five minutes.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Yearbook Half recounting the year in Spiderman's life - GI Joe Yearboom style - reminded me of the 70s ASM I read last year. Half new MU profiles - woo, good stuff ! And thrown in some interviewage talking up the next few months. Forget it if you're after story.

Are comics expected Thursday this week ? I know Tuesday was a holiday in the US. Yes, American holidays don't affect UK shipping. Comics are sent to Diamond UK the weekend or two before they're due to ship to UK shops.

I think that Diamond's logistics model is pretty much set up as a "Just in time" model, where they ship stuff so that it just arrives by the date in which it is supposed to be in stores - so there is always product in the pipeline to stores but it doesn't necessarily get despatched as soon as it is in the warehouse. So if there is a public holiday then that will set the whole pipeline back a day or so. A similar model to that used by Supermarkets (This is just a theory so I could be very wrong. If anyone has a better understanding then please correct my misunderestimation)

X-Factor 39 Yeah I know I said I was chucking this but the baby was born this issue and I wanted to see what happened. Now I have. And the writer's asked me in the front of the comic to not tell you what happens. Astonishing X-Men 28 I've completely lost track of what's going on here. I did get annoyed reading it though - big story about a certain character half way through and then it turns out he's the reason the people the X-Men are fighting are here. Right. Coincidence or poor story telling just to position the character into the story ? Uncanny X-Men Annual 2 My appreciation of this issue was spoilt by a massive continuity error. For Tony Stark to be boozing and Norman Osbourne to be alive & in public we're looking at a story set at the latest in the early 70s Marvel time. Unfortunately Selene didn't become Black Queen till c X-Men 188 (+|- 2 issues either way I can't remember the exact numbers) Problems. And the only time I can remember Emma being catatonic is when Matermind put her out c UXM 170 (again before Selene arrived) X-Men: Legacy 220 Picks up the Rogue thread from a few issues back. The clues are there in the issues as to who this issue's protagonist is, but I bet you'll be thinking it's Mystique. I was, and I'd read the solicitations for future issues. So to read the reveal and to think "yeah, I can see that now" means that Carey did a good job here in my mind. Mighty Avengers 21 Putting together a new team of Avengers. Suddenly one of Marvel's forthcoming trade releases makes a lot more sense as it ties in heavily with Slott's first arc on Mighty as we end up on Wundagore Mountain with Mordred trying to summon Chthon. (Have I mentioned Avengers 187 is one of my favorite issues ? Got a B&W print of it in Marvel Superheroes that I got when I was younger) Not a bad start at all, some good stuff with Hank exploring some of his insecurities and bringing in some technology similar to what he was using in West Coast Avengers. WARNING - gives away the reveal at the end of Dark Avengers 1 ! Dark Avengers 1 I was going to pick this up anyway just to see how it fared. I wanted to hate it as I anticipated that the core of the team would be the Thunderbolts team I so hated. It was rather good .... I like a good set up the team story. I can see Ares joining in but I wonder what sort of hold Osbourne has over the Sentry ? As for the rest of them I got it right about most of the team being Thunderbolts assuming the identities of heroes, so it is the *original* Thunderbolts concept tipped on it's head a bit. The identity of the Iron Patriot should come as no surprise

I had a look at Dark Avengers #1 and it confirmed the current Mavel Universe is not for me. Horrible characters winning out and very little content for a $3.99 comic.

32 pages of art plus a reprint of the Secret Warriors feature from Dark Reign something ore other. Same as for MA 21.
The best bit about Norman being in charge is you know he'll get his backside handed to him one day.

If they have them that early why do UK Holidays affect them ? They pack them to send to the UK shops on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday. That gets delayed when they close on the Monday.

X-Force 11: Who the hell is Eli Bard ? An origin for X-Force's for the knowledge of which Warpath gained last issue. Turns out there was a reason Eli wanted to dig up Warpath's tribe's burial ground .....
X-Men Manifest Destiny 5 Conclusion of the Iceman/Mystique arc which really didn't go anyway. Nice Avalanche story with him trying to live a quiet life. Good Dazzler story setting the scene for her return to the X-Men a few months back. 's been a good little series this, shame the lead feature, which I enjoyed, ultimately went nowehere.
