Xerxes Issue 1 of 5
Frank Miller's sequel to 300.
This one has Alex Sinclair on colours, and while he is a fantastic digital colour artist, I feel the book misses the luscious painting of Lynn Varley.
His art is still stripped down, no unnecessary lines and the storytelling is as ever fantastic. As with 300 told over double-page spreads so the inevitable collection will be a landscape book ala 300.

I had a look but passed as I couldn't see the point of publishing it at standard US comic size.

It's what they did with 300 back in the day.

Aliens - Dead Orbit by James Stokoe - nice, claustrophobic affair - owing more to Alien than any of the sequels. Not staggeringly original but enjoyable nevertheless.
Jupiter's Legacy Book 2 - Millar and Quitely. New FQ art so it had to be bought. The continuation of their superhero book. A lot of the ugliness of Millar's work is toned down, and you have a tale of the resistance when superheroes have taken over. If only his run on The Authority had approached this.
Doom Patrol Book 1 by Gerard Way and Nick Derington. One of DC's Young Animal imprint. Any Doom Patrol tale suffers in the shadow of Morrison and Rachel Pollack's runs and this is no exception. It's enjoyable but the real strength is the work of Nick Derington. Beautiful stuff.

The Immortal Hulk Issue 1 by Al Ewing and Joe Bennett.
Going back to the first 6 issues of The Incredible Hulk as a basis. Banner becomes the Hulk at night and it's a horror comic, or as close to horror as a Marvel book will get. A nice first issue which sets up the new premise and you get a rough idea of where the series might go.

Fleetway's Count Duckula #5 found at a comic mart. The memory cheats. Stated as a quaterly but I was sure it was a monthly!

TKO Presents The Fearsome Dr Fang. From new publishers TKO tkopresents.com/products/the-fearsome-dr-fangAn unusual release strategy in that all the single issues are available at once in a nice wee box, as is trade paperback and digital. I bought it for the Dan McDaid art, but it's a fine romp. Nothing too substantial but if you liked a good adventure yarn and liked the Christopher Lee Fu Manchu films, you'll dig this. Andy

Detective Comics 1000.
Really solid anniversary issue with a Kevin Smith story I liked and a Geoff Johns written tale with zero dismemberment.
Frank Miller 80's cover was of course purchased.
