Presumably in humanoid mode? They"d look a bit odd in fighter mode with large chunks missing.

I don't have the second. But of the first i have mp colors, usa g1colors, thundercracker , and usa skywarp. I love the mold. Best MP, easy. Second one is so pointlessly homogenized, its pointless with Classics Starscream doing the exact same thing.

My thoughts on this are on the last page, although when you put it like this: I do see Crazy's point. When you angle the hip kibble back like that and put him in the right colours, it's a tough decision to make. 03 is more stylish, 11 is more true to cartoon. I am glad at any rate that I have both moulds in my collection, just not the MP03 version as Starscream.

The mould has never appealed to me, but seeing all the greebling in that photo made me think - if they released a more thoroughly greebled, glowy version as Underbase Starscream I'd be all over it.

Pinwig, that pic is so helpfull, thank you so much! To me, there really isn't a great difference between them, but MP11 is slightly the superior, only 'cos I like the more cartoony style. But it's so slight I don't think I'm missing out on anything. Especially as I already have all 3 in the older mold, I really like the older mold, Skywarp is still missing in the new mold, aaaaand if I spend loads of money replacing the 3 with such a similar figure Mrs Shockprowl would divorce ma ass.

I still find the mould one of the more flawed MPs (even more so that Megatron in many respects)but the newer version has two major benefits. Firstly the larger head looks so much better. Though it is one of those cases were until you have the new version it quite possibly wont have occurred that the head on MP3 is too small. The bigger improvement is the due to abandoning the 100% accurate jet mode and returning to a G1 style robot mode. The arms lose a layer of jet that just sits on the outside of the arm and the lower legs gain extra width from the tail fins. It makes the robot mode look far more balanced. Sorry for the tablet photo but its easiest for a quick upload. On MP3 the lower legs and arms are the same width, it's not terrible and I know there no point applying to much comparison to a human body and there are Transformers with larger upper bodies, but I don't think it suits Starscream or the strike plane mould generally. In comparison MP11 looks better balanced. I do see Crazy's point. When you angle the hip kibble back like that and put him in the right colours, it's a tough decision to make. 03 is more stylish, 11 is more true to cartoon. I am glad at any rate that I have both moulds in my collection, just not the MP03 version as Starscream. Ah yes that's another issue for me. I do think Starscream looks better with the sheaths swung back, but I also prefer the wings not to be swung up away from the body. I know it was designed that way, but I find the effect too extreme. Problem is the sheaths dont swing back with the wings flat to the body. With MP11 I can leave the wings however I want. Having said all that I do prefer the sculpted detail on MP3 over the modified parts on MP11 and the ankle tilt.

Yes, when you look at it like that the new mould is much better. I hadn't noticed the difference in head sizes either but now you've pointed it out I can't not see it. How weird.

I don't buy many MP toys but Ironhide done right, especially with a Cartoon model robot and Battle Platform, I'd be up for.

Where getting him right does, as Phil rightly says, involves an animation-accurate robot mode and the battle platform...

It sure does. I WANT THIS. I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS. For God's sake get it right. Ironhide deserves it.
And, you know who follows Ironhide...?

Well quite. What I *really* want is a Ratchet. But if we get Ironhide we'll get Ratchet. And vice versa. All I ask is that be faithful to his appearance in Warrior School! and Repeat Performance! (Which, seeing as they're not episodes of the cartoon, it won't be.)

One day we'll have a full rosta of 84s at MP. That'll be a day to celebrate. Not so many gaps by this time next year though, eh? Tracks is out soon, Ironhide is next with Ratchet inevitable, and Hound is on the cards. Minibots aside, that just leaves Jazz and Mirage. After that it's just Sunstreaker, Skids and the trucks and we'll have the '85 cars done too! -Nick

Whether Sunstreaker is an 84er or not depends on whether you're looking at the US or UK toy catalogue.

Sunstreaker IS 84, just like the rest of his case mates and Megatron. Doesn't matter that we didn't get him during 84, though that's up for some dispute!

I know. I just thought the '84 UK catalogue made for an easier target than the full lineup.
I always felt bad for Sunstreaker- killed off in the comic before his toy was even shown as being available in the UK.

I was more thinking that the '84ers' are the entire 'first wave' of 'The Transformers'. 11 Autobot cars, 6 Mini-Autobots, Optimus Prime, Megatron, 3 Strike Planes, Soundwave and 5 Cassettes. Early season one Sunbow.
Problem with going for the '84ers' or 'Season One Sunbow' is that the temptation is there to just say, "oh, I might as well try and collect the Dinobots, they're season one... and the Insecticons. And if you have the Dinos you're gonna need the Constructicons (MP Devastator??!! no chance). If I get the Insecticons I may as well hope for the Cone-heads, so why then not the '85' Autobot cars, and '85' Mini-Autobots.... To say nothing about Hauler!" -You spiral out of control. Collector Red Mist! Least, that's how I feel.

Seeing as how Masterpiece is pretty much my sole collection at the moment, I would not mind that at all... We still haven't heard a sniff of Cliffjumper or Hubcap though, have we?
|
|

Post by Philip Ayres on Jul 29, 2015 18:42:58 GMT
MP Cliffjumper, and thus Hubcap, is potentially a big problem As is well detailed his toy vehicle mode is a super deformed Porsche 924 Turbo tfwiki.net/wiki/Cliffjumper_%28G1%29/toys#Generation_1His cartoon version resembles the toy tfwiki.net/wiki/Cliffjumper_%28G1%29#The_Transformers_cartoonThe real life Porsche 924 looks NOTHING like that en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_924So what vehicle to that go with? A cartoon like version, essentially a squared off Bumblebee, or something that, while acurate, looks nothing like what people think Cliffjumper looks like and may have an impact on the robot mode. An acurate car version has the advantage that it would be easier to do a Hubcap as it would be different to BB. And I suppose create a backdoor oppotunity for a showish Cliffjumper as a red BB repaint.

I think he should be a Mini Cooper. Still sporty, still the right proportions. I know Takara are going to want to try and work something more G1 and realistic out, but doing any of the other Minibots is going to present a similar problem.
