Started on the Survivors boxset yesterday. I quite like their thinking behind this. Usually with these kinds of things I get irked when they introduce new characters and don't stick with the proper ones, but The Survivors was such an ensemble cast that it feels right.
So the first episode runs parallel to the first TV episode, and introduces some new characters in exactly the same way that the show did - there's that whole 'who will live and who won't' thing. I see from the CD cases that episode two is still with their new stuff, but three and four bring in Greg and Jenny in a narrative that runs alongside the time they're at the Grange in season one.
Pity it's a whole year to the next boxset, episode one was really rather good. Hope the next three are too.

Episode two in the car yesterday. This is simply brilliant. I'd go so far as to say this boxset is one of the best things Big Finish have ever done. It is absolutely thrilling. Cameo from Lucy Fleming in episode two is a tantalising hook for episode three, but Louise Jameson is fantastic in this. So many twists in the last fifteen minutes it's genuinely edge of your seat stuff - just like the original Survivors series was for me. Very, very impressed with how Big Finish have done this.

Have finished Survivors now. Thoroughly recommend it. The last episode is probably the weakest of the four, but not by far. I think by that point it's becoming predictable how it will end to make it dovetail with the series proper. But it's a real rollercoaster and very in tune with the style of the original. Can't believe I've got to wait until next June now for some more.
So with that done my Friday Big Finish enhanced commute went back to Pathfinders to catch up with that. I enjoyed the first one, as detailed above, but some of the writing was a bit hackneyed and it did suffer from being what I guess the original game was; a short one-off intro mission to get to grips with the game mechanics. Episode two isn't as constrained and sets up what is obviously a larger campaign. Quicker pace and more interesting dialogue, definite improvement on episode one and enough to keep me going for episode three. I haven't seen any announcements about a second season of this one, so I guess it's just going to be a one-off six parter.

Cracker that is. Well worth a listen at any price. It was okay in a 'if this is the only B7 full cast we get to do, we'll do something that gives everyone something to do I guess'. The big epic space battle promised at the end of Star One lasts about 30 minutes and the whole story is set in the Liberator and an empty room, so... channelling classic Blakes 7, really.

It was only a matter of time, but Burns and I have long predicted they would do it. It will live or die by the casting of Number 6. Andy

I hate damming ideas before they've been given a chance but that's a definate Paddington Bear hard stare. Big Finish have done some wonderful stuff, but Briggs won't be able to resist putting his own twist on that, which will derail it.

Listened to this today. Terrahawks to me was a regular watch as a kid, but never quite filled the gap Starfleet left. However I thoroughly enjoyed this. Brought it all back, and it's turned a box set I was going to pass on into a potential purchase. Good marketing ploy. You only need to hear that theme again to smile. That early 80s synth is just so good.
Made me wonder if Big Finish could reunite the Tripods cast to do the missing third series.

That is a weird thing to do. Sounds like they're trying to tweak the stories to fit their own version of the continuity, which is a totally stupid idea.

In Briggs we trust but this won't do the new actor any good if he has reheated TV scripts to work from or the shadow of McGhoohan will loom too large.
