I tend to think of Masterforce as one long serial rather than individual episodes. I shall have to think about V-V-Vic-toreeee and Head-o-mastaaaas.

I would tend to say that 'Morbo says Chojin Masterforce does not work like that", in that I can't really carve out individual episodes. The other two..Hmm... Will have a think, but the first couple of minutes of the first episode of Victory, where they set Star Saber up as a full on Wandering Ronin/Gunslinger bringing justice to the High Frontier is great.

You could probably take the last ten or so episodes of Masterforce in my opinion. Those were the good ones. Headmasters I loved all the way through (subbed). Of those you've got episode two because of the duel between the communicators, then the two toward the end where Daniel gets stranded with Sixshot then rescued by him during the duel with Chromedome.
I'm watching Victory now. Done seven eps. Does it actually develop a story at all? Or is it just fight of the week in a new location all the way through? The characters are great but they need a plot.

Oh wow, really? I was hoping I was still in the 'look at all the cool toys and how they combine!' episodes before the actual story started. That's a bit of an about turn from Masterforce's in depth ongoing story. I take it the reaction to that wasn't so good then.
I am digging Victory's cast though. The characters are great. It's certainly slotting a few things together so I've got a frame of reference for the Japanese toys now - they fit into a hierarchy finally rather than just being 'those expensive Japanese toys I don't need to worry about'.

Victory subbed is a fun cartoon but best watched one episode at a time. Dubbed it is the greatest series of all time.

The characters are great but they need a plot. Just the same one it started with - Deathsanrus needs energy to activate his space fortress and conquer the universe, so he either goes himself or sends Leozaaack! and some combination of his minions to go and steal energy and the Autobots fight them. It is pretty much the definition of a "formula" show to be honest. A very competently done one, but a formula show nevertheless. Karl

Back in the day we had to hunt these episodes down by Interesting Means. Now they have had several DVD releases or merely require typing a few words into your favourite streaming video service.
WATCH AN EPISODE. REPORT BACK.

That's a bit of an about turn from Masterforce's in depth ongoing story. I take it the reaction to that wasn't so good then. I don't think it was so much that - it was more a case of Masterforce being deliberately experimental. They went outside the circles they'd been using to find a Director (who, as is common in Japanese shows, had a sort of overall responsibility for shaping the show) because they wanted to try something different thematically and structurally from Transformewrs:2010 and Transformers:Headmasters. I don't think it did appreciably worse than anything which had come before it as far as I am aware, more that they decided for whatever reason to return to something more similar to the previous shows next time when it didn't do significantly better. (And then the wheels kind of came off after Victory leading to the cancellation of Zone as a TV series - but that is another story) Karl

Interesting post Legios. The variety in the direction of the three series is interesting.
Shockers to sample Headmasters do the first two episodes as the second is quite an eye opener. But where did you get to with the original cartoons?

But where did you get to with the original cartoons? Err, kinda mid way through the second half of season two, I think... Mrs Shocks WILL NOT watch them. But thankfully the childrens love any kind of Good vs Evil story-telling and got behind it. Youngest was asking for Transformers the other day, after a long spell of Ponies and clever maths orientated American cartoons. I will defo do Headmasters first two eps a.s.a.p. I'm actually quite fascinated....

TOMORROW IS NATIONAL HEADMASTERS DAY!!!!
And I will watch it.
Will the childrens like it if they like the Sunbow cartoon? Or should I have a private viewing?

Headmasters is very similar visually to the Sunbow cartoon because it slots on to the end of season three. They might find the voices amusing because it sounds so amateurish. Tonally its about the same, but there are deaths!
