Scramble City and Zone were so mysterious back in the day, when I finally watched them, they were very underwhelming indeed.
Damn internet hype and rumours!

Beast Wars II Movie however delivered big style. Mostly because Burns and I were a bit drunk when watching it and thought Majin Zarak was Martin Zarak, which added an element of unexpected joy to proceedings!

I thought Zone was fine! Short enough to not overstay its welcome, some nice fights which meant it didn't matter I had no clue what was going on, Micromasters, Space Rabbit, ambiguously gendered character, Star Saber getting chucked under a bus...

I think the Japanese Beast Wars stuff is the only TF animation I don't have now (apart from the TFCog dubs). One day...

Are those the horrible fandubs that try to force the TFTM soundtrack into everything? Or did they only do that for the G1 dubs?

I've never really understood Fan Dubs. Adding the wobbliness of amateur voice-actors on top of the existing wobbliness of the varying translation quality that you get with fansubs seens rather suboptimal to me. But that might just be me.
(I still smile at the early fan-subs of Car Robots though trying hard to pretend it was a deadly serious show...).
Martin Zarak will never be forgotten though. That was a thing of joy.

They're good enough. Hobson's choice really, when it comes to the rarities I'd rather have something than nothing, and we're never going to see proper releases for BWII and Neo! www.thetfcog.com/

It just strikes me that a fansub is far less hassle than a fandub to actually do. It surprises me anyone would bother that is all.
Having seen some of Neo (it has had a Japanese VHS release, and one of the tapes currently lives in my house) I'm inclined to say that enough of the jokes are sufficiently broad - or just visual slapstick - that you can get quite a lot of it even without subtitles anyway. Sure, that leaves a whole other level of humour missed. But it is entertaining enough for what it is.

God bless your VHS capabilities Kaptain.
Yeah, it's not all that memorable, but I have seen worse.

Karl I could understand fan-dubs if someone had the time to re-sync the original (series correct) BGM to the visuals using DVD quality video and the TF: History of Music collection, produced authentic English dialogue through a combination of real translation & contextual knowledge, and used good-quality recordings of decent amatuer voice-actors/sfx. But I'd prefer sub-titles. BWII and BW Neo are the only shows I haven't seen in full, so I'm always on the look out for them in any form.

They're going to release all of it when they're finished with subbing. Last post on their fb page was 5th March saying 96% done, so hopefully soon! I believe they'll be doing Neo afterwards.

Phenomenally comprehensive package. You couldn't ask for much more. It should be a commercial release; I'd pay.

The same group did Car Robots a year or so ago (maybe two) and that didn't seem to have any problems (AND that was a show actually released in the West). The eternal risk of fan sub projects, I suppose!

Just thinking, what with it being the 30th anniversary of BW, that this might be more 'on the radar' that Car Robots (which is pretty much a long-lost franchise).

Both of my children adore Headmasters - the youngest is currently going through a phase of shouting "TRANSFORM! HEAD ON!" at random intervals.

Oh now you see my children are far more civilised.... they watch Rescue Bots....
...and run around screaming "ROLL TO THE RESCUE"!!!
(well, the small one does anyway. The big one just quietly nods in approval...)

The following picture got shared to my FB timeline today, the 33rd anniversary of MTMTE's premier: Ignore the writing on it. Obviously a promo piece of some description for the Japanese Headmasters series (Japanese heads for Cerebros, Hardhead & Brainstorm, colours of the Clones) so.... 1) Where's it from? 2) Where can I get a clean version? 3) Has it got a Decepticon twin?
