Aha! a quick eBay search and I see the first few issues came with stickers. The tank one with issue one used to be on the wardrobe in my old bedroom. I must have had issue one then. Interesting. That memory would have laid undisturbed were it not for this thread! I may have to buy one of those. Phil is costing me money again. Phil has indeed cost me money. I picked up the first issue of this from a recent auction, complete with sticker. Amazing to see one again. I'm going to enjoy seeing if I can remember any of the contents because it's only the sticker that I can remember at the moment. I'd have been six when this was printed, six months after I first started being bought Doctor Who Weekly by my dad and two years before The Eagle relaunched, which are the only benchmarks in my early years of comic reading that I can put this with. Very odd feeling looking at it! Picked up a near full run of this comic, 36 of 37 issues. It's a purely reprint title, seventies marvel stuff (bar a humour strip by Quinn and Howett), but since picking up issue one I've had a hankering to get the rest. Need to find the missing one. It was merged into Future Tense when it finished, but Rom was the only strip that moved over. Might need to look into getting those too.

Phil needs these.
Next time you pop up can you bring these with you so I can have a peak and work out which Rom is where?
Is this your first encounter with Rom?

Sure, no problem. Yes it is. I don't think I've read any. Not that there's a huge number of issues reprinted here. Looks like four pages an issue.

Once again I rage at the heavens over a lack of reprint volumes of ROM.

Trying to explain the Wulf reprints in Forces in Combat on the weekly Zoom doesn't really do them justice - this is an example from 1959:

Picked up a copy of Forces in Combat #2 to complete the set I bought previously. It was slightly overpriced, but I was delighted to find its free gift sticker tucked between two pages towards the back. So mint it makes me think it's never been noticed. The seller probably didn't realise it was there because it wasn't mentioned on the auction. That means I have a full set of issues, none of which have newsagent markings or missing pages, and all three free gifts. Happy with that.
The reading continues apace, issue #30 tonight. There's some cracking stuff in this.

Someone needs to read the article I wrote posted in the Marvel UK thread :)
It's just Ditko, MM issues 10-19.

It's weird to think Machine Man was the most current strip Forces printed. Given it's possible to work out that the Forces issues were put together six weeks before their cover dates, at one point they had to stall Machine Man because they needed issue 19 two weeks before it went on sale in America.
To my mind though the art in those comics looks very dated, older than they actually are. I've never liked Machine Man. Conversely, the sixties Howling Commandos stuff looks very like British equivalents of the early 80s. I was surprised how good it is.

Oh it gets madder than that. At a couple of points Marvel UK SW is printing US inventory issues, not used there, and strips *BEFORE* the US publishes them. That's why there's a big run of original UK material at one point.... and why the main strip is somewhat behind when Jedi hits!

That's why there's a big run of original UK material at one point.... and why the main strip is somewhat behind when Jedi hits! That's interesting - so the US SW comic had issues produced that weren't actually published over there, but were here? Was that a 'thing' then with Marvel? That happened with Thundercats; the UK had US originated strips that weren't in the US run. Did Marvel produce issues for titles to keep in case of emergency then? I recall there being evidence of bits of strips for Transformers that weren't published too.

Ditko Machine Man was shite. -Ralph Yep, no matter how much I try to like it, I fear that is the case. The interesting thing is that it looks like the MM printed in TF isn't just recycled from its appearance in Forces from four years before because of the editing that Forces did on it. The TF version seems to be a new reproduction because the strips are complete. You could just about excuse them if they were reusing stuff they already had prepared, but to do it twice? That strip? Gah.
