The three issues in Avengers Universe made sense in their own right, but it does feel as though I don't have the full picture. I'd assumed that's because I don't read all the titles. There doesn't seem to have been much build up from the Ultimate universe side and Marvel Legends still seems to be on the post-Axis storyline, so although Universe had been talking about the illuminati and their foreknowledge of events, the actual incursion seemed to come out of nowhere.
Also seemed odd the start of Secret Wars proper was heavy on the FF focus, but then I suppose that's tied to Doom being so prominent too.

Not beyond him just being a significant villain. I assumed he'd just found a way to escape the collapse, but he seems to have whipped Sue out too. Is there a story I've missed? the back cover of Avengers suggests there's a Doom story going on in Mighty World of.

There's a story Panini haven't run that significantly affects your understanding as to why certain people (Doom, Strange and others) are in the positions they are that wasn't covered by the Mighty Avengers issue they reprinted.

What was that then? It's a pity the UK market isn't big enough to sustain enough titles to get it all out.

Is there a story I've missed? the back cover of Avengers suggests there's a Doom story going on in Mighty World of. Had a quick read. All the stuff with Sue, Franklin, Valeria and the Future Foundation kids you need to know is in the Avengers Universe issue. They get separated from the life raft yet are alive on Battleworld. Secret Wars 1 makes bugger all sense without the Hickman run. Especially the opening pages with Doom, Strange and The Molecule Man. And who all the people are with Thanos. Err... right. 77 issues? Right. Umm... Secret Wars has been a long, long time coming. Ever since Avengers vs X-Men. See tmukhub.proboards.com/post/180330/threadtmukhub.proboards.com/post/181231/threadtmukhub.proboards.com/post/191534/threadConfirmed in most recent AU letters page that they won't be running Hickman's Avengers stuff. They'll have trouble when they get to Secret Wars. I tried to read #1 of that and it was indecipherable. -Ralph

Yes, I don't know who Thanos' crew are, but then I'm learning about so many characters having just started with Universe that that isn't new. The rest I was hoping would get explained in due course. As said, within itself everything seemed to make sense except why there are so many Thors.

Yes, I don't know who Thanos' crew are, Thanos' group are The Cabal consisting of: Thanos Maximus the Mad & Namor, both formerly of the last version of the Illuminati in Hickman's New Avengers Black Swan (again see Hickman New Avengers) Terrax the Tamer (alternate universe version) Black Order members Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight (captured by the Illumanti during Infinity. They mayhave been in the Infinitry cross over episodes of Mighty Avengers printed in Avengers Universe) The Maker (Ultimate Universe version of Reed Richards) They're basically a bunch of villains captured by the Illuminati during New Avengersand then freed by Namor to destroy the worlds involved in the incursions in our Earth. I think it may be good to visit a comic mart - you could get all those 77 issues for £40 50p each & £2 to get in (cheap than getting about about 10 tpb at £15 each)
If someone post up the exact issues I could go round looking in 50p bins for them & then maybe have the full set for giving to whoever at TFNation. (if just one person after the missing issues - Travelling Man have lots Marvel stuff at 50p each & then i'd build up my card credit)

No Big Event Comic Series (which are partially aimed at lapsed readers) should require anyone to have to read 77 other comics first to understand it, which is ludicrously prohibitive in cost and time. Only comics are daft enough to try. You don't see film and tv companies pulling the same kind of crap! "Please give us money to watch our big summer event film aimed at the masses but to understand it you need to pay to go see another 77 films first!".
Unless you're trying to do something as complex as Hamlet or War and Peace. Which, hang on, were done as one piece anyway.
Ah, comics. We love you but you are silly sometimes.

Secret Wars would make a lot more sense if Secret Wars 1 was actually the last issue of Avengers or "Marvel Universe: The End" and Secret Wars started cold on Battleworld.
Then everything leading up to Secret Wars has happened before the series started and it's a nice clean break. Secret Wars 1 does nothing but confuse matters and muddy the water.

So Hulks: be Planet Hulk, Future Imperfect and ? Got Planet Hulk right. Wouldn't have guessed A-Force in a million years but it makes sense since Jennifer is in it. Still think we might see Future Imperfect: Two 4 issue titles does not fill four Panini issues especially when one Panini issue is 100 pages.

While I'd probably enjoy reading 77 back issues of the Avengers, time would prohibit it. I'm on a pretty tight rota these days with what I do read (I have to have a weekly schedule I keep to or I get in a total mess, and my novel reading is seriously suffering under the weight of magazines and comics) so I'll have to consider that a future project. Don't forget I've also got at least 12 years worth of Essential X-Men boxed up that hasn't yet been read. Might be more.
That's kinda why I like the Panini books; they're a good value, condensed read of cherry-picked titles. Pity they don't have the scope to fit everything in, but if they did I wouldn't be able to read it all anyway. I am *really* enjoying what I am reading though, which is why extra titles keep getting added. From starting with X-Men I added Legends, then Universe and I'm enjoying the Civil War book too. That's about all the Marvel I can fit in! Which is why I bought Hulk this weekend... doh!

Tell you what saw today while inspecting a newsagent to see what kind of comic fun Germans have... Panini here have a Star Wars title. Up to issue ten. Are the new marvel comics reprinted in any of the star wars mags we have? I'd definitely buy a CE reprinting some of those.

Panini have been repeatedly asked about a SW CE and have replied that there are rights issues with doing one in the UK.
I wonder why they can get away with in Germany then? Some residual rights thing from the mag Titam used to do?

Sounds likely. Titan probably have a preexisting contract but now can't publish the marvel stuff. So it'll be a case of waiting for those rights to expire. Pity. Odd though. You'd have thought whatever Titan had would have been tied up with Dark Horse's licence.
