30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #279
GI Joe and the Transformers: ...All Fall Down - Part 3: Ratchet finishes repairs to Bumblebee, who on being reactivated announces he would like to be known as Goldbug. He then offers to assist in placing explosives on Alpha. Meanwhile, the combined might of the allied forces come face to face with Devastator. Goldbug, the Baroness and Scarlet approach Alpha while Dr Mindbender prepares to use Bombshell's chip to control it.
Divide and Conquer: Soundwave leads the Decepticons in an attack on the new Autobase. Its defences are offline after Wheeljack's recent faux pas. While the Autobots are occupied, Starscream attacks an oil tanker but is surprised to be confronted by Springer and his band of survivors. They chase Starscream away. Back at the Autobase, Soundwave tells the others Starscream's plan has failed and that he should lead the Decepticons alone.
Elsewhere, Transformation warns readers to look out for Strip issue 13, which features the first part of a new Death's Head story; the now surprisingly regular A-Z slot features Streetwise and Sunstreaker; the classified page advises readers that Dominic Glynn and Mark Ayres from BBC TV's Doctor Who will be signing autographs at Sheffield City Polytechnic on July 21st; Colin slips in dinosaur poo and makes a Tyrannosaurus laugh; the Mighty Micromaster competition finally arrives, offering readers the chance to win one of 25 Battlefield Headquarters sets for spotting five differences in two pictures of the Air Strike Patrol; and on the letters' page, Nick Aldeman of Coulsdon is told that he might be able to buy copies of Collected Comics 1-6 if he contacts the Marvel Comics back issue department (wait, what? a back issues department?!).
