I'm now very disappointed Nestle have not recognised the thirtieth anniversary of the rotator tube promotion and reintroduced white Smarties. What are they thinking?
Also, that site has a mesmerisingly large number of Smarties tubes on it.

Smarties have been shit since they changed the tubes so you can't ping the lids at moving targets.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #284 Kings of the Wild Frontier - Part 3: While Optimus Prime tries to connect with the Matrix, the Triggerbots unwittingly begin a life of peaceful farming on Cheyne. Dogfight accompanies Hud to Osaplam, where they encounter the newly arrived Thunderwing. The Decepticons try to force the location of the Matrix out of Dogfight, who doesn't know what they're talking about. Hud runs away and the more Dogfight defends himself, the more he begins to realise he has forgotten something important. Assassins: Starscream fends off two alien assassins before capturing a third. He learns a price has been put on his head, but not by whom. Shockwave and Megatron watch from afar and contact the recently escaped Bludgeon. Meanwhile, at Autobase, Wheeljack diagnoses Snarl with Corrodia Gravis and announces he can only be saved with a systems boost from a compatible Transformer... the only option being Starscream. Elsewhere, Dreadwind interrupts the Transformation page to complain all the letters he gets these days are the same boring questions and to announce his arrival as the new star of the cover box; Kirk Etienne makes his one and only appearance as the cover artist; Top Spin and Tracks feature in the A-Z; with nothing else to do on a boring Sunday, Colin arrests himself; and on the letters' page, Rory John Williamson of Castleford asks if there is a toy of Unicron available.

Etienne did a fair few Thundercats covers but this seems to be his only TF one. Not that impressive, but a footnote in the ongoing run of the series.
And the fact that is probably the most interesting thing to comment on shows that this issue is a bit hum drum aside from the random inclusion of alien bounty hunters in the UK strip, which are so oddly realised it takes two readings to work out what the chuff is going on.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #285 Kings of the Wild Frontier - Part 4: Thunderwing realises that Dogfight has been brainwashed and leaves him to his fate. Dogfight listens to the truth from the locals who tried to warn him and he returns to the farm to reveal the truth to the others. The farmers are actually Vrobians, psychic vampires who feed off the emotions of their prey. A fight breaks out and the Autobots triumph, killing the Vrobians. They ponder the senseless deaths in their lives and wonder if they will ever find the peace so tantalisingly shown to them. External Forces! Starscream returns to the Decepticon base intent on exacting revenge for having a bounty put on his head. Soundwave tries to explain it wasn't him who did it, eventually managing to convince him. Bludgeon and Co burst through the wall ready to destroy them both, and outside, the Autobots arrive and realise they need to save Starscream to save Snarl. Just then, Megatron and Shockwave arrive. Elsewhere, Trailbreaker and Trypticon feature in the A-Z; Marvel advertise the first bi-monthly issue of The Real Ghostbusters Puzzlebuster magazine, including a free Slimer chewy bar; and on the letters' page, Dreadwind off-handedly comments that Collected Comics 17, featuring Space Pirates, has been out a while, while telling Colin Harvey of Manchester that the missing Target 2006 pages intended for volume 16 are still... missing. Meanwhile David Green of Sheffield reckons his collection of 275 Transfomers (including Omega Supreme) is worth over £1200!

It's not a bad story this one. Nice cover too.
Meanwhile, people moan about uncle Bob's later stories but Kings of the Wild Frontier is right in there among them stylistically. Very dodgy Furman writing.

I did like Soundwave's "Here's one I prepared earlier" message. Brilliant. He probably had hundreds of them for different situations, but this was the only one we saw him get to use. Strange how Soundwave is the only character in comics who appears incapable of lengthy banter while fighting. He briefly encountered the master of the art, Spider-Man, way back in TFUS #3. As for 'Kings of the Wild Frontier', would I be right in saying that was the last appearance of Dogfight and Override? (Excluding Override's appearance in G.I. Joe.) Martin

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #286 Deadly Obsession - Part 1: Longtooth hunts a klud through the seas of Pequod, while Doubleheader and Pincher race through space to reach him before he kills it. The trio have been tasked by Emirate Xaaron with finding the Matrix and after two weeks of fruitless searching have found some important information in a mysterious place called Gottlieb. The Lesser Evil! The battle rages and Grimlock begrudgingly orders Sludge and Swoop to defend Starscream. Megatron and Grimlock exchange words and Slag butts Megatron from behind. Shockwave raises his canon arm on Grimlock, but Grimlock is quicker and throws his sword at him. The Autobots quickly defeat the Decepticons, who slink away to lick their wounds. Starscream agrees to help Snarl as long as the Dinobots will protect him from Megatron in future. Elsewhere, Transformation warns readers to look out for more up to date entries in the A-Z starting in issue 300; This week's entry features Twin Twist and Ultra Magnus; GI Joe start new story 'Fair Trade'; Colin decides to build a new shed but is hindered by Coal Man; and on the letters' page, Stevie Potts of Wednesfield asks Dreadwind to explain how she can cope with her Transformers mad five year old son who goes round the house pretending to be Megatron.

Remember when Megatron and Shockwave used to be a threat on their own? Good times.
This is where I wondered about the tone of the new stories, this resolution seemed too easy compared to what came before.

Oooo. Is it possible to see a scan of it? Compared to the glory days of his introduction: And the miserable way he was treated by Transformers Universe: Profile: Ultra Magnus is all soldier. He is most comfortable when he is carrying out Optimus Prime's orders - giving it all of his magnificent fighting skills, courage and gift for battlefield improvisation. And he is uncomfortable when the mantle of leadership is placed over his broad shoulders. He sees himself as a follower, not a commander, and is reluctant to assume authority until it is clear that he has no choice but to lead. And when he does finally lead, he is resolute, fair and courageous beyond reproach. He is ever-ready to sacrifice himself for the good of his companions and mission, and unstinting in his preparedness so that his "people" will be as protected as possible. Abilities: Ultra Magnus carries missile launchers capable of hitting a target 30 miles away.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #287 Deadly Obsession - Part 2: Arriving in Gottlieb two weeks earlier, the Autobot Pretenders heard from the harbour master about the klud, believed extinct, terrorising local vessels. Doubleheader learns a 10,000 Drax bounty has been put on the creature and exclaims the Autobots need to find it before it's killed in case the Matrix was involved in resurrecting an apparently extinct creature. Longtooth is vehement that the klud should not be harmed. Back in the present, Thunderwing tries to stop a crazed Longtooth from harpooning the klud while fending off criticism from his minions. Inside Story! Irwin is a freelance reporter looking for his big break. He hears via police radio that a giant robot is running amok in New York and goes to investigate. He is co-opted by Grimlock to scale the robot, Superion, and climb inside his head to remove one of Bombshell's mind control chips - the cause of the problem. Irwin does this on the promise of gaining an exclusive interview with Grimlock. Once inside Superion's head, he finds the chip and removes it just in time to save the Autobots. Elsewhere, Transformation announces the launch of a new fortnightly Robocop comic, arriving October 22nd with an adaptation of new movie Robocop 2; Unicron gets a whole A-Z page to himself; Jane Bondski impersonates a Giggly Sister to try and steal Colin's trousers; there's a World Animal Day competition to win one of ten stuffed toys; and on the letters' page, Dreadwind recognises Steven Mapes as a regular letter writer while learning from Liane Elliot of Gig Harbour, WA that the UK comic is now very hard to find in America because Titan have dropped it from their imports list.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #288 Deadly Obsession - Part 3: Longtooth is knocked off his boat by Thunderwing's missile and as he sinks into the sea, he recalls the point the Autobots first encountered the klud. They were investigating two deserted vessels when the klud rose from the water and bit off Longtooth's leg, revealing to him his destiny - to kill the beast. However, Thunderwing is determined to rescue it because of its potential importance, and his forces prepare to engage the Autobots. Front Line! Soundwave and Starscream are worried that Project Smear isn't working. Meanwhile, Irwin is enjoying his reward for foiling the Decepticon plan to have Superion wreck New York. Bombshell secretly observes Irwin being given his tour and reports back to Starscream, who decides to abduct the journalist to force him to write about the Decepticons instead. The Stunticons are dispatched, and Irwin is snatched. Elsewhere, Transformation is excited about the upcoming October release of the graphic novel version of The Body In Question; Vortex and Warpath feature in the A-Z; Jane Bondski discovers Colin's trouser pockets are a gateway to another dimension; there's a spot the difference competition to win Death of the Incredible Hulk videos; and on the letters' page, one James Roberts of Guernsey makes the bold claim that GI Joe and the Transformers was "a tiny bit boring".
