I just find them utterly utterly pointless though blast effects are by far the biggest pile of shite to hit action figures.

I think that's because both those things are really aides to posing/display and as such fall outside your interest. Neither are necessary for play. I'd far rather have a good spring mechanism than a blast effect, but I've found for static displays they're quite cool.

I must get some sort of flight stand for Thrilling 30 Sky Byte, his shark mode needs it otherwise it can't be displayed at all without difficulties - I have him propped up on a perspex shelf as part of a nautical themed display in the detolf.

Incredible that I haven't gotten that yet. A favourite character of mine and by many reports one of the top releases of the year. And it rolls!
Will somebody please discount it properly?

Ralph is right.
It's ok on high end collector's lines like MP, but part of the joy in collecting mainline TF lines was the feeling that they managed to be toys first, with play patterns and features for this.
When the objective of the toy company is to sell action figures for display, they're no longer a toy company.

I'd much rather have alternate swappable heads rather than blast effects.
The ability to change Bumblebee into Bumper or swap between a toy or cartoon head means far more for my displays than blast effects ever would.
