I had many hours of fun back in the day with Motormaster and his little scout car, sadly both lost to time long ago.

Yeah! My Motormaster's "base mode" was my Energon cube factory. It had a kind of production line look to it.

Guys, I've just got a G1 Silverbolt off ebay (cheers Bogatan!) and the metal on him is silver. However, the majority of photos I've seen, the chrome is gold. The toy's in perfect condition, so it's not wear.
Were there variants to the mold? Classics version maybe?

Hmm, that's odd. Must ask Andy when he gets back from BotCon!

If we're allowed to use the robot modes as characterised in the comics or on TV rather than simply the toy version, then I think Razorclaw is hard to beat. That lion head worn on his chest just like a hunter's trophy is brilliant.

That's one of the beauty of the combining systems - you can mix & match. So far there's been three: Scramble City, Micromaster and Energon.
Powercore is the fourth. I spent the weekend swapping drone limbs between Skyburst, Bombshock and Smoulder.

How do you combine the 80's release teams when it comes to the legs. Do you have the robot body facing forwards or backwards?
ie Groove (who does cause another problem) motor bike wheel at rear or front. The other problem with Groove is that his head can move when you are connecting him up. The jets - do you go with how we have seen images of the 2015 toys - jet at rear.

Same as Phil, mostly. I also do Swindle with the vehicle mode to the front on Bruticus, and Lightspeed on Computron is faced so you can see the cockpit.

Obviously I've been thinking about Combiners a lot recently. As you'll have seen in my CW Dragstrip review I recently realised that Dragstrip was my favourite Stunticon. So which are your favourite members of the various Scramble City and other G1 combining teams?
Aerialbots Stunticons Protectobots Combaticons Technobots Terrorcons Seacons
Constructicons Predacons Monsterbots

As a toy(s), then my favorite is Railracer/JRX Closely followed by Magnaboss and Tripredacus.
Purely G1, it's the Seacons without a doubt. Love sea life now, and when I was little. As a concept, the protectobots. Purely asthetics, then the Combaticons. As a team, the predacons.

Oh, my bad.
Based purely on design/alt mode: Overbite
Based purely on character: Swindle.

Aerialbots- Skydive. Prowl in the sky! Also best colour scheme.
Protectobots- Streetwise. Mini-Prowl, but also his adaptability. Very individual looking 'bot mode for scramble city.
Stunticons- Ohhhh, Dead End. Vain, yet also sullen and fatalistic. MotorMaster 2nd. But I like all their personalities and toys. I think Wildrider as a 4x4 is a good choice.
Combaticons- Blastoff. Space Warrior! (that's what I want to be when I grow up).
Terrorcons- Hun-Gar. I like the way his orders are often misinterpreted.
Technobots- Hmmmm. These chaps have never done much for me strangely.
Constructicons- Another tough one. I like them all.
Seacons- Snaptrap. Great jaw articulation.

Aerialbots Air Raid cos he looks like a 1984 Decepticon jet. Stunticons Dragstrip - see Review Protectobots First Aid it's a freaking Ambulance with a laser cannon on it! Combaticons Brawl we had one in 1986 and for years it was our only limb Technobots Nosecone jumble sale aquisition. and I LOVE drill tanks Terrorcons I want to say Sinnertwin cos he's great and has a fab gun. But need to say Blot! Seacons Nautilator cos he keeps missing out. Can anyone photoshop me a Nautilator in BWII Seacon colours? Constructicons Scavenger nice alt mode, profiled in one of the few early issues of the UK comic I had (Smelting Pool? and a fab unmade repaint for one of the greatest modern TFs Predacons Would say Divebomb for character but the toy is rubbish. In fact most of them are a bit ****TBH. Rampage probably.... Monsterbots ummmm......

As always, I'm a sucker for good characters so...
Silverbolt - because the leader of the Arialbots is scared of flying... Swindle - because businessbots are funner that me crush you brutes and make for more interesting stories Afterburner - here I break the rules I jusr set ... I don't know his character well but love the alt mode and colors and design! Streetwise - because he's so...street wise. Hook - he's smart and a perfectionist

This evening I received a text message from a member of this forum, vouchsafed as true by another member, that a third member of our merry band had difficulty transforming Groove properly for the first ten years that he owned him.
Did anyone else suffer from this affliction?

How do you mistransform Groove. The toy is brick like with only folding the seat down & turning the front wheel back. Unless it is how you place the front wheel?

Having consulted with said member I have much sympathy for him given the other wild accusations thrown at him this afternoon by his Hubpanions. (Who will no longer be meeting someone particular on Wednesday I might add).
It is hardly surprising he did not learn Groove's saddle became feet given how he did not own a Groove toy himself for 99.9% of those ten years and never the instructions. Having a well known delicate touch with TF toys he would never have dreamed of applying significant force to said saddle to unclip it from its secure fastening. Additionally the toy had a legendary crap transformation even then and stood upright well enough (better even!) without saddle feet deployed.
All very understandable given his young age and innocence then as well.
At this point in time I feel the need to mention 5mm pegs.

Is anyone planning in collecting all four of the Special Teams in Combiner Wars? I'm not myself, but it'd be a fantastic looking set.
